A technology prototype can range from a mockup using computers (instead of actual consumer devices) to a full-fledged collection of networked consumer devices. Demonstration proposals will be evaluated by a Committee including representatives of venture capitalists. Proposals will be evaluated mainly based on their potential to stimulate interesting discussions, exchange of ideas, and promote collaborations. By detecting a multi-device context for harnessing collaborative and opportunistic resources in proximity, it is possible to reduce the cost of executing computational tasks in the constrained resources of devices, and to extend the presence of pervasive devices beyond their egocentric and isolated computing behavior. The impact of multi-device computing has also found many applications in everyday settings, for which they were not initially conceived, such as continuous multi-device experience for users, formation of collaborative multi-device infrastructure, multi-device remote control systems and multi-device autonomous interactions, among others. The goal of PerCrowd 2020 is to explore the impact of multi-device context in self-organizing and opportunistic computing. More in detail, The goal of this workshop is to explore the use and effect of contexts on multi-device environments to facilitate communication and cooperation among multiple devices. Original papers addressing theoretical, practical, and technical aspects of opportunistic and self-organizing multi-device systems are solicited. Papers describing prototype implementations and deployment of such applications and systems are particularly welcome. The submission of informative surveys of the state of the art as well as position papers on controversial issues is also encouraged. The Forum will be structured as a series of short presentations by the students, followed by a short collective discussion and "speed mentoring" sessions with experts in the field to obtain individual feedback and advice. The forum will conclude with a panel of experienced academic researchers and industrial experts to address "life after a Ph.D." question. Participating students will also have the opportunity to present a poster during the main conference to leverage further interaction with EWSN attendees. Current Ph.D. students in all stages of their career are encouraged to submit a 2-page abstract about their ongoing research to be considered for the Ph.D. Forum. The abstract shall also include a one-paragraph bio, along with brief information on how long the student has been in Ph.D. school and the expected time until graduation. The student should be the *sole* author although contributions of the adviser and others should be acknowledged. Submissions will be reviewed by the Ph.D. Forum committee to ensure quality, relevance, and potential benefit from attendance to the Forum. Authors of accepted submissions are expected to participate in person in the Forum on February 17th, 2020 – and to present a poster both at the Forum and at the main conference. There will be no separate registration fee for the Forum. Participating students will only need to register to the main EWSN. The further integration of the Internet of Things within the ICPS scenario triggered considerable research efforts within the new Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) paradigm, with application scenarios like smart factories, smart energy grids, smart transportation systems, etc. One of the defining features of ICPS is the involvement of a large amount of cooperative computational elements tasked with the control of time-critical and mission-critical physical entities. These strict requirements are also shared by the IIoT scenario to provide unprecedented vertical integration, specialized high-level services, enhanced interoperability and availability. Furthermore, an ever more rising and ubiquitous trend in this IIoT context is represented by Digital Twins, where a real-time update of a large amount of data from the physical system is required to update the corresponding digital replica. As a consequence, both the computing architecture and the communication networks and protocols call for novel paradigms, albeit satisfying stringent low latency, high reliability and availability, safety, and security requirements. Traditional computing and communication and paradigms are not properly equipped to fulfill all these requirements, as they are typically designed to optimize different performance metrics and application scenarios. Hence, new paradigms are emerging, significantly changing the landscape of industrial automation systems and networks. In the computational realm, edge/fog computing is gaining popularity to leverage the enhanced capabilities of end devices, and at the same time, the interest in virtualization techniques is steadily increasing, with the aim of increasing the quality, timeliness and reliability of time-critical tasks. The new generations of communication systems, both wired and wireless, are also focused on ultra-reliable and ultra-low latency information delivery, as well as on enhanced features to enable time- sensitive operations, highlighted by the developing 5G and TSN standards. A common trend in both areas is the increasing adoption of approaches based on machine/deep learning to improve the adaptiveness of such system to different applications and environments.
