The IoT is about to enable a range of new capabilities and services far beyond today’s offerings. It will fundamentally change how people go about their lives. According to Gartner, the number of objects connected to the Internet is set to reach 20 billion by 2020. Cisco estimates the number will be close to 26 billion objects by 2020. Others believe the actual number will be even higher with the assumption that any object with a simple micro controller and on-off switch will be connected to the Internet in the near feature. The scale of the IoT is set to have a major economic, social and environmental impacts; the intersection of which forms the future sustainable growth. The IEEE International Workshop on Internet of Things: Networking Applications and Technologies (IoTNAT 2019) Symposium will be held in conjunction with The Second International Conference on Fog and Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC 2019). The IoTNAT 2019 Symposium aims at soliciting original ideas on the broad area of IoT including challenges and opportunities, concepts and applications and future trends. The Symposium aims to facilitate discussions among academics and IoT practitioners and make positive contributions to the field. Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished manuscripts. Submitted papers should be in accordance with IEEE format, and will be reviewed by at least two expert reviewers in terms of relevance, originality, contribution, correctness, and presentation. Definitions, architectures and approaches that are relevant to the current generation of clouds will evolve significantly to accommodate the emerging paradigms that rely on the cloud. Future clouds will therefore need to address new challenges related to scalability, management, reliability, sustainability, heterogeneity and security. Understanding the societal and economic impact and human-centered aspects of a smart system or technology in advance and designing the system a-priori with potential value-added services help spur the discoveries of new tools, methodologies and innovative services. Smart service systems span across a variety of socio-technical facets comprising of devices, people, organizations, environments, and technologies to sense, actuate, control and assess the physical, cyber and societal artifacts of the human service systems. Besides the systems being self-adaptive and fault-tolerant, need to be designed in such a way that it can continuously increase the quality and productivity, the compliance and sustainability of the smart services it offers. While human-centered perspective and cognitive learning help create multi-facet value added services and catalyze the sustained economic growth of smart service systems, understanding the multi-modal sensing, control, heterogeneity and interdependency between different physical, virtual and logical components of such a complex system will enable the realization of new transformative smarter service systems. If successful, this can help improve the quality-of-service of the customers, quality-of-life of the citizens and quality-of returns of the stakeholders and investors. Nurturing the development of smart service systems seeks for inter- and trans-disciplinary crosscutting research threads from system and operational engineering, computer science and information systems, social and behavioral science, computational modeling and industrial engineering etc. The goal of this workshop is to bring together practitioners and researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum for discussion and technical presentations on the fundamental knowledge and principles of smart service systems that enable the value co-creation in sensing, actuating, data analytics, learning, cognition, and control of human centric cyber-physical-social systems and future of work.. The focus of IEEE SECON this year is on systems research, experimentation and hands on evaluation. Looking beyond current networking paradigms, IEEE SECON welcomes pioneering cross-disciplinary work at the intersection of wireless and parallel disciplinary areas including (but not limited to) new devices, physics, biology, computing, to name a few, encompassing topics ranging from biological communication and computing networks to wireless communication networks in uncharted spectral bands. One of the key goals of this conference is to foster collaboration between industry and academia. Hence, participation of researchers/developers from industry and posters or demos reporting joint work between industry and academia are especially encouraged. Demos and posters are solicited for any of the research topics relevant to SECON and can be any (but not limited to) of the following: • Upcoming research challenges, future directions and works in progress • Demonstrations of new applications and techniques • Practical implementations, research testbeds and living labs • Industrial and commercial developments • Recent research/implementation results and prototypes • Novel hardware and tools • Real-world deployments and platforms for research • Public-private and industrial-academic collaboration initiatives Submissions for posters and demos should follow the IEEE conference 2-column template and have a minimum font size of 10 points. The documents must contain the authors’ names, affiliations, and contact information as well as specify the designated corresponding author. Submissions will be evaluated mainly based on their potential to stimulate interesting discussions, exchange of ideas and promote collaborations. Poster submission guidelines: Submissions should be a two-page short paper/abstract describing the main contributions and merits, reporting on initial results and discussing challenges. Demo submission guidelines: Submissions should not exceed three pages in length. The first two pages should describe the main contributions, merits, results and the demo itself while the third page should describe the requirements of the demo such as: • Equipment to be used; • Space needed and setup time required; • Additional facilities needed, e.g., power and Internet/wireless access. All additional equipment/needs are subject to budget approval. Authors of accepted posters and demos will have a space to display their posters/demos, as well as to describe their work in discussions with interested attendees. Demo authors should also bring along a poster describing their ideas and setup. In addition, each presenter will have 60 seconds to orally present their idea at the beginning of the session to attract the audience. A Best Demo/Poster Award will be given to a high-impact submission selected by a committee, taking into account inputs from conference participants. The abstract of the accepted posters/demos will appear in conference proceedings, under the IEEE Communications Society policy that all accepted IEEE SECON 2019 posters and/or demos require at least a one-day registration.
