Call for Papers
7th International Workshop on Real-World Embedded
Wireless Systems and Networks (RealWSN'18)
in conjunction with ACM SenSys 2018
November 4, 2018 - Shenzhen, China
https://sites.google.com/site/realwsn2018/home
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Complementing the topics of ACM SenSys 2018, the RealWSN workshop brings
researchers and industry practitioners together to explore the
challenges, issues, and opportunities in the development and deployment
of real-world embedded wireless systems and networks.
******** TOPICS ********
The 2018 edition of the RealWSN workshop tackles primarily the
development and deployment of wireless sensing applications in the real
world. Among others, it will gather the best practices from renowned and
experienced researchers and practitioners, providing an answer to
several open questions, such as how to quickly and efficiently deploy an
application in mostly unknown environments.
Sensing applications include, but are not limited to:
- Wireless sensor and actuator networks;
- Mobile sensing, smartphone sensing;
- Crowd sensing;
- Cyber-physical systems;
- Internet of Things applications.
The targeted topics include, but are not limited to:
- Practical experiences from real-world deployments;
- Datasets gathered from real-world applications;
- Hands-on experiences with integration of WSNs into the Internet of
Things;
- Experiences with harsh environmental conditions (e.g., underground,
underwater, and in-body communication);
- Energy aspects such as harvesting, as well as intermittent and
transient computing methods;
- Negative results and unsuccessful deployments;
- Hands-on experience with new wireless sensing and IoT/M2M/CPS
technologies;
- Software tools for characterization, parameterization and automation
of sensing applications;
- Programming and debugging of wireless systems and networks in the field;
- Management of faulty and malicious data in the real world;
- Works in progress and not yet solved issues.
******** SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS ********
Workshop papers (max 6 pages) or demo/poster abstracts (2 pages)
together with all relevant documentation (source code, trace files,
etc.) should be submitted by the paper submission deadline. Submissions
should be unpublished, and not currently under review by another
conference or journal. Furthermore, submissions must be in PDF format
with all fonts embedded, and be formatted according to the official ACM
Proceedings format.
The collaborative nature of the workshop starts at the review process,
where non-blinded comments (reviewers identities will be revealed to
authors) about the submitted papers will be provided to the authors for
discussion. Works in progress, position papers, or the presentation of
new challenges are highly welcome.
Guidelines for submission are available at:

the protocol stack, from physical to application. However, we particularly
encourage demonstrations and posters that span over multiple layers and
wireless networking must be their key topic.
The demos must be presented live at the workshop venue, i.e., a
presentation of a powerpoint, video, etc. only is not allowed. The posters
may describe work in progress, while the session will offer an excellent
opportunity to receive feedback and discuss early research. We emphasize
that the poster/demo session is not a forum to display commercial products.

** CALL FOR PAPERS ** IEEE Communications Magazine Feature Topic
Smart Infrastructures for Crowd Management
Recent efforts in the research and industry communities are aimed at
realizing the Smart City, a term utilized for a city that exploits its
distributed computing and communication infrastructure in order to
sense, aggregate, process, discern and act upon various data, with the
objective of bettering the management of the city’s various sector
(e.g., health, education, weather, business, etc.). Traditional efforts
have sought the application of Wireless Sensor Network (WSNs) and RFID
tags, as well as processing of sparsely distributed feeds (e.g., public
and private live CCTV) in order to do the monitoring and processing. An
expanded consideration for the Internet of Things (IoT) applications in
smart cities has been explored with emphasis on facilitating
high-density sensor and actuator deployment. Such an evolution yielded
powerful architectures for enabling smart cities. Fundamental issues,
however, abound in the high cost of deployment and maintenance,
especially when attempting to smarten an existing city infrastructure.
Such serious restraints make the aforementioned advanced technologies
fully viable and attractive for new cities/districts, but reduces their
applicability in the dominant transitional scenarios. Comprehensive and
scalable crowd management infrastructures are required to overcome the
economic and technical constraints of state-of-the-art
conceptualizations and implementations, while maintaining both practical
and commercial appeals.
This Feature Topic Issue, motivated by the latest advances in crowd
management, will tackle outstanding contributions that deal with
state-of-the-art setups, techniques, methodologies, designs and actual
deployment of crowd management solutions. Researchers and engineers from
academia and industry are invited to submit their recent results and
innovations. The list of topics includes, but not restricted to the
following topics:
* Data aggregation and analytics for Mobile Crowd Management.
* Data filtering for crowdsourced information.
* Reputation Scores for Crowd Management through crowdsourcing.
* Crowd inference and classification.
* Trust and privacy in crowd management.
* Optimization of crowd management systems
* Incentive mechanisms for crowdsourcing
* Prediction approaches in Mobile Crowd Management.
* Mobile crowd management quality indicators (Quality of Source,
measurements uncertainty, etc.).
* Network and computing infrastructures for crowd management.
* Geo-positioning schemes for crowd management.
* Smart City indicators inference and classification.
* Crowd management in emergency and disruptive scenarios.
* Infrastructure inference and classification and behavior
characterization.
* Testbeds and real measurements of infrastructures for crowd
management in Smart Cities.
Important Dates
* Manuscript Submission Deadline: August 1, 2018
* Notification of Acceptance/Rejection due date: December 1, 2018
* Final version due date: January 15, 2019

IEEE/Access/ invites manuscript submissions in the area of Towards
Service Centric Internet of Things (IoT): From Modelling to Practice
http://ieeeaccess.ieee.org/special-sections/towards-service-centric-interne…
The Internet of Things (IoT) refers to an emerging paradigm, to
seamlessly and ubiquitously integrate a large number of smart things
with intra/inter links to the physical and cyber worlds. The sensor
enabled communication technologies are connecting billions of things, by
efficiently utilizing their locations in the real world. It has brought
active participation and tangible creation of benefits to the economy
and ultimately the society. As the so called smart things are extremely
diverse and heterogeneous in terms of computing and communication
technology and resource capability, there is no stand-alone solution
towards realisation of service centric provisioning in IoT. The service
domain in IoT environments is also divers including energy efficiency,
computing capability, coordination time, resource harvesting capacity,
dimension of things, etc. The growing diversity enforces the necessity
to address the most significant issue of technological complexity, for
practical enhancement and evaluation of quality of service (QoS) and
quality of experience (QoE) for service-oriented use cases in IoT
environments.
The literature has vastly contributed towards architecture design for
cooperative communication, computing and application centric
development. However, the efforts towards realistic modelling and
evaluation of QoS and QoE in IoT environments have not witnessed enough
attentions in academia and industrial research labs. Although the
realistic implementations of IoT environments have been realized in
various domains including product engineering, marketing, health,
sports, and security yet, the scalability of these implementations is
not guaranteed due to the lack of QoS and QoE evaluation in IoT
environments. The R&D towards service centric technologies in IoT
environments will support the mass realization of realistic IoT
implementations resulting in effective economic and social benefit.
Driven by the enhancement of QoS and QoE for diverse use cases in IoT,
new technologies are keen to the rise of spanning different service
centric aspects in IoT environments.
The aim of this special issue is to provide opportunities for
researchers and practitioners to publish their latest and innovative
contributions with new methodologies and modelling techniques towards
service centric IoT framework. Theoretical investigation and prototype
implementation based studies are particularly welcomed, as IEEE Access
journal attracts practical articles discussing new experiments or
measurement techniques, interesting solutions to engineering, including
negative results. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Standardization progresses in service centric IoT
- Business model driven network services management in service
centric IoT
- Resource management and scheduling for service centric IoT
- Energy and resource efficiency in service centric IoT
- Location accuracy enhancements for service centric IoT
- Cloud and edge computing for massive service centric IoT
applications
- New waveforms and frame structures for massive IoT connection
- High-reliability-low-latency tactile communications for IoT
- Coverage extension with resource constrained sensors
- Enhancing privacy, security and trust for service centric IoT
We also highly recommend the submission of multimedia with each article
as it significantly increases the visibility, downloads, and citations
of articles.
