Scope and Motivation:
----------------------
The rapid evolution of communications technologies together with the
variety and potential availability of network access mediums and service
providers have led to the emergence of the Intelligent Transportation
Systems (ITSs). There is a large variety of ITS networks spanning from
mobile ground networks, e.g. Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) to
aerial ground networks, e.g. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) networks.
VANET is a kind of ITS networks where a vehicle is a connected car
equipped with various communications technologies such as: Dedicated
Short Range Communications (DSRC) and cellular networks (3G/4G). The
purpose of VANET is to ensure a wide area coverage for all vehicles in
scaling the network, thus achieving the always best connected paradigm
where the best connectivity is offered to clients wherever they are and
at any time. UAV is another kind of aerial ITS networks, which are used
in military applications for target monitoring and engaging air to
ground combats. It is also used in civil applications to explore
inaccessible areas and deliver data to and from areas with no network
infrastructure.
There are many unprecedented challenges to realize ITS network; security
and privacy is one of them since, on one hand, vehicles exchange
sensitive data (e.g., accidents notification, coordinates of nuclear
sites, etc.) and on the other hand they form a specific network with
particular characteristics (frequent fragmentation and dynamic
topology). This special issue covers studies and solutions that ensure
ITS security and privacy. We encourage authors from the industry and
academe to submit their original research works that will enhance our
understanding and modeling of security, privacy, and attacks.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
Intrusion detection and response systems in ITS network.
Intrusion prediction model in in ITS network
Data Mining and Machine learning for IDS
Cyber-attacks against ITS network
Security metrics
Secure localization in ITS network
Lightweight cryptography technique
Cyber-attacks modeling in ITS network
Secure routing protocol
Key management schemes in ITS network
Privacy challenges in ITS

OVERVIEW
========
Robot vehicle platforms, often called “drones”, offer exciting new
opportunities for mobile computing. While traditional mobile systems
respond to device mobility (such as smartphones), drones allow computer
systems to actively control device location, allowing them to interact
with the physical world in new ways and with new-found scale,
efficiency, or precision. The startup cost to experiment with and build
real drone applications has dropped dramatically in recent years, also
thanks to technological developments driven by the smartphone industry
and the rise of the “makers” and DIY movements. Recent popular
applications employing drones are 3D-mapping, search and rescue,
surveillance, farmland and construction monitoring, delivery of
light-weight objects and products, and video production.
DroNet welcomes contributions dealing with all facets of drones as
mobile computing platforms, including system aspects, theoretical
studies, algorithm and protocol design, as well as requirements,
constraints, dependability, and regulations. We are particularly looking
for papers reporting on experimental results of deployed systems,
summaries of challenges or advancements, measurements, and innovative
applications. The primary focus of this workshop will be on civilian
applications of drones.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Novel applications of drones
- Drone system design and deployment
- Drone ad-hoc networks
- Micro flying systems
- Aerial communication protocol design
- Drone operating systems
- Programming systems
- MAC and routing protocols for drone fleets
- Theoretical analysis and models for drone networks
- Solutions for sparse and dense fleets of drones
- Spectrum and regulatory issues
- Mission and context-aware solutions
- Drone coordination
- Mobility-aware and 3D communication
- Delay-tolerant networks and ferrying
- Energy-efficient operation and harvesting
- Integration of drones with backend systems
- Drone-based sensor networks
- Positioning and localization
- Swarm movement, coordination, and behavior
- Autonomous flight
- Artificial intelligence techniques for drones
- Vision and object tracking
- Human drone interaction
- Cooperative surveillance, smart cameras and sensors
- Acceptance, security, and privacy aspects
- Experimental results of aerial communication
- Drone testbeds
DroNet invites submission of original work not previously published or
under review at another conference or journal. Accepted papers will be
published by ACM and considered for the Best Paper Award.

We are open to other contributions that stretch networking research
outside of these topics, present new emerging computing trends, or
potentially involve unfamiliar techniques. We ask authors to bear in
mind that the main factor of interest for their work will be the
implications of their results in networking. Potential authors who are
unsure of the scope are encouraged to contact the PC chairs before
submission. In addition to the main conference, CoNEXT 2018 will have a
series of co-located workshops, poster and demo sessions, a travel grant
program, and conference best paper awards.
==========
Submissions
==========
CoNEXT welcomes submission of both long and short papers (2-column, 10pt
ACM format). Long papers are the more traditional and complete form to
present technical work, and should be no more than 12 pages (and up to 2
additional pages for references). Short papers are the preferred vehicle
for contributions whose novelty and impact show the same technical
excellence, and whose description fits within 6 pages (with 1 additional
page for references). Short papers will be reviewed with a more open
mind towards the scope of evaluation or breadth of topics compared to
long papers. Note that position papers, critiques of networking
research, and ideas that are not yet fully complete or evaluated are a
better fit for the HotNets workshop. We recommend that authors check
both CFPs before submitting.
=============
Ethical concerns
=============Like SIGCOMM, CoNEXT accords great importance to research
ethics. Specifically, authors must attest that their work complies with
all applicable ethical standards of their home institution(s),
including, but not limited to privacy policies and policies on
experiments involving humans. Submitting research for approval by one’s
institution’s ethics review body is necessary, but not sufficient. The
PC will have its own discussion of the ethics of that work whenever it
has concerns about the ethics of a submission. Authors agree to be
available at any time during the review process to rapidly respond to
queries from the PC chairs regarding ethical standards.

ACM Workshop on Networking and Cybersecurity for Smart Cities (ACM
SmartCitySecurity 2018)
in conjunction with ACM MobiHoc 2018, Los Angeles, June 26-29, USA.
Web:
https://www.sigmobile.org/mobihoc/2018/workshop-smart-city-security.html
Scope:
Cities have been incorporating new technologies for several years, but
lately, the rate of technology adoption has increased and cities around
the world are becoming connected and smarter. Furthermore, a plethora of
networking technologies and connectable devices made it more convenient
to build smart ecosystems and connected commodities that can help us
predict the Smart Cities to become reality very soon. The key
applications could be ranging from Smart Campuses for education,
connected Hospitals for better treatment and medical information sharing
among doctors & patients, Smart Watering & Gardening systems at the city
level to preserve natural resources, smart fishing, Smart & connected
transportation systems, and many more to name. Moreover, Internet of
Things (IoT) can bring noticeable efforts to connect various entities
yet those efforts are prone to cyber-attacks. Likewise, every new
technology and innovation brings new challenges and problems. In this
workshop, we are focusing on networking and cybersecurity-related
problems that currently affect or will affect cities in general around
the world, whether considered smart or not. These problems would impact
the city government, residents, and the businesses and other
organizations that conduct business there. Keeping in mind the new
technologies and life in a smarter city, let’s consider what could
happen if one or more technology-reliant services don’t work. What would
be commuting looks like with non-functioning traffic control systems, no
street lights, and no public transportation? How would citizens respond
to an inadequate supply of electricity or water, dark streets, and no
cameras? What if garbage collection is interrupted in the summertime and
stinks up the streets? We believe it would be unpleasant and cause a lot
of chaos in any city.
We expect this workshop to be one of the key steps towards gathering
researchers and developers to get under one roof and pave through the
policy-making and providing interesting insights of the following
topics, but not limited to:
Topics include, but not limited to:
- Networking and Security Framework for Smart Cities
- Cyber Security Challenges, Issues, and Solutions - Poor or Nonexistent
Security Issues
- Encryption Issues - Privacy Issues in Smart Cities - Cybersecurity
Policies and Standards - Computer Emergency Response Maneuvers -
Protection Against Large and Complex Cyber Attacks
- Patch Deployment Issues - Secure integration of IoT /CPS and other
networks
- Intrusion Detection/Prevention Techniques - Secure Data Storage,
Communications, and Computing
- Heterogeneous System Modeling for Smart City Security - Insecure
Legacy Systems - Simple Bugs with Huge Impact - Cyber Attack Emergency
Plans - Susceptibility to Denial of Service - Privacy issues in
Intelligent Transportation
- Cyber Forensics & Challenges - Big Data Analytics for Smart Cities
