*2017 IEEE Vehicular Networking Conference (VNC)*
*November 27-29, 2017 — Torino, Italy*
*Call for Submissions*
Connected vehicles are becoming a cornerstone of the increasingly connected
world and the deployment phase of the first generation of
vehicular networks is now closer than ever. As the applications for
connected vehicles so does the demand for reliable networking. Large-scale
testbeds are running or planned in different parts of the world, while
multiple discussions are taking place at different levels and in different
forums about the next generation of vehicular networks. The automated (and
connected) vehicle will soon come into play and may significantly change
the roots of vehicular networks. The 2017 IEEE Vehicular Networking
Conference (VNC) seeks to bring together researchers, professionals, and
practitioners to present and discuss recent developments and challenges in
vehicular networking technologies, and their applications.
Selected papers will be considered for possible fast track publication
in Elsevier Computer Communications journal.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
• 5G technologies for connected vehicles
• Communications and networking for automated and semi-automated vehicles
• Congestion and awareness control in vehicular networks
• Novel technologies for V2X (TVWS, LTE-D, VLC, etc.)
• Safety and non-safety applications of vehicular networks, including ITS
• V2V, V2I and V2X communications and networking protocols
• Vehicular communications with VRUs (Vulnerable Road Users) e.g., with
bicyclists, pedestrians, etc.
• In-vehicle communications (wireless or wired)
• Radio propagation and technologies for vehicular networks (propagation
models, antennas, etc.)
• Protocols for vehicular networking (radio resource management, link
layer, routing, mobility management, dissemination, transport etc.)
• Security, privacy, liability, and dependability in vehicular networks
• Network and QoS management for vehicular networks
• Simulation and performance evaluation techniques for vehicular networks
• Results from experimental systems, testbeds, and pilot studies
• Impact assessments of vehicular networks on safety, transportation

IEEE PerCrowd 2018 – 1st International Workshop on Context-Awareness for
Multi-Device Pervasive and Mobile Computing
Co-located with IEEE PerCom 2018, March 19-23
March 19, 2018 Athens, Greece
http://percrowd.blogspot.com

SCOPE AND OVERVIEW
__________________
Pervasive and mobile systems are constrained by energy and performance
issues when they operate in isolation. Yet, several studies have shown
that smart devices are frequently co-located in proximity to at least
one other device throughout the day, suggesting that devices can
potentially collaborate to reduce the effort of resource intensive
tasks, e.g., sensing, offloading, networking, storage, etc. However,
merging the resources of multiple devices to work together is a tough
challenge as it requires a common understanding of the context of each
device. In addition, since smart devices function in multiple roles,
understanding what really constitutes context becomes difficult as
different types of contexts need to be modeled depending on the type of
task.
Context information is critical in multi device setups, e.g., for the
formation of collaboration groups, and for negotiating responsibilities
between the devices. Any misunderstandings in context can thus be
extremely counterproductive for the collaboration between devices.
Consider, for example, a computational task, e.g., game puzzle, whose
execution can be accelerated by dividing computations between two or
more devices. To distribute the task, we first need to understand the
processing capacity of each device to ensure devices with insufficient
resources are not harnessed for this task as they would turn into
bottleneck for execution. By detecting the context for harnessing
collaborative and opportunistic resources in proximity, it is possible
to reduce the cost of executing tasks in the constrained resources of
smart devices, and to diffuse the presence of smart devices beyond their
existing computing isolated behavior.
The goal of PerCrowd 2018 is to explore the impact of context in
collaborative and opportunistic computing. More in detail, the goal of
this workshop is to explore the use and effect of contexts on
multi-device settings, whose computational behavior can be propagated
within a community of devices for optimizing their energy and performance.
Original papers addressing theoretical, practical, and technical aspects
of opportunistic and collaborative self-organization of devices are
solicited. Papers describing prototype implementations and deployment of
such applications and systems are particularly welcome. The submission
of informative surveys of the state of the art as well as position
papers on controversial issues is also encouraged.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Context-aware collaborative systems and applications
- Resource extension of pervasive and mobile applications
- Opportunistic context modeling - Pervasive computing applications
harnessing multiple devices
- Data-driven techniques for community formation
- Self-organizing community construction and evolution
- Crowdsensing and crowdsourcing models for data acquisition and fusion
- Applications of crowdsensed models, e.g., incentive models, decision
making models, and privacy models.
- Infrastructure, architectures, and platforms for collaborative systems
- Lessons and experiences of evaluating multi device context-aware
systems and applications
- Emerging applications for multi device environments.

The ACM/IEEE International Conference on Internet of Things Design and
Implementation (IoTDI) is a premier venue on IoT. In 2018, IoTDI will be
held for the third time and topics span the entire ecosystem revolving
around IoT, such as cloud and edge computing, data analytics, sensor
networks, mobile devices, Internet architecture, middleware and numerous
IoT applications. To reflect the interconnection of IoT with both cloud
computing and cyber-physical systems, IoTDI is co-located in even years
with IEEE IC2E and in odd years with CPS Week.
Plan to submit your best papers to ACM/IEEE IoTDI 2018 (deadline
2017/10/6) and see you in Orlando, Florida, in April 2018, where IoTDI
will be co-located with IEEE IC2E.
A confluence of technological advances marks the advent of a new era.
World data volume is growing at an unprecedented pace, much of it from
embedded devices. Smart cities are expected to grow, fed by millions of
data points from multitudes of human and physical sources. Cyber-attacks
grow more nefarious, bringing down physical systems. Social networks are
becoming ubiquitous, offering information on physical things. The
separation between cyber, physical, and social systems is blurring.
Collectively, these developments lead to the emergence of a new field,
where the networking and physical realms meet. It is the field of the
Internet of Things (IoT). This conference is an interdisciplinary forum
to discuss challenges, technologies, and emerging directions in system
design and implementation that pertain to this Internet of Things. This
conference invites researchers and practitioners from academia, industry
and government, and accepts original, previously unpublished work on a
range of topics related to the Internet of Things.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Submission Deadline: 10 December 2017
IEEE Access invites manuscript submissions in the area of Convergence of
Sensor Networks, Cloud Computing, and Big Data in Industrial Internet of
Things.
With growing attention from both academia and industry, industrial
internet of things (IIoT), comprised of a multitude of connected
devices, is supposed to monitor, collect, exchange, analyze, and further
instantly act on information to intelligently change the industrial
device’s behavior or the industrial environment (e.g., autonomous
reaction to unexpected changes in production by effectively detecting
failures and triggering maintenance processes). In consideration of this
goal, the convergence of sensor networks, cloud computing, and big data
in IIoT is recently identified as an essential component. Specifically,
sensor networks are deployed to capture various data in IIoT. Meanwhile,
cloud computing platforms are developed to store and process data
powerfully in IIoT. Moreover, big data analytics tools are utilized to
glean valuable findings from the massive data in IIoT.
However, to integrate sensor networks, cloud computing, and big data in
IIoT in a robust way, there are a lot of tough issues to be solved with
respect to various aspects (e.g., framework, power efficiency, security,
quality of service, etc.). Therefore, this Special Section in IEEE
Access aims to solicit original technical papers with novel
contributions on the convergence of sensor networks, cloud computing,
and big data in IIoT. Review or survey type articles will also be
considered. Submissions should focus on the convergence (i.e., the
contemporaneous utilization of at least two of the three technologies –
sensor networks, cloud computing, and big data in IIoT). Submissions
that work on the experimental implementation of the convergence of
sensor networks, cloud computing, and big data in IIoT are especially
welcome.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Frameworks that integrate sensor networks, cloud computing, and
big data in IIoT
* Data gathering in the convergence of sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
* Green mechanisms that integrate sensor networks, cloud computing,
and big data in IIoT
* Data communication in the convergence of sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
* Security techniques that integrate sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
* Data computing in the convergence of sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
* Quality of service enhancement methods that integrate sensor
networks, cloud computing, and big data in IIoT
* Data fusion in the convergence of sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
* Novel applications that integrate sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
* Data mining in the convergence of sensor networks, cloud
computing, and big data in IIoT
We also highly recommend the submission of multimedia with each article
as it significantly increases the visibility, downloads, and citations
of articles.

Call for Papers
PPNA special issue on Network Coverage: From Theory to Practice
Coverage problem has been a hot topic in the last two decades with the
rising of wireless sensor networks. It is concerned with the quality of
sensing about the targets of interest that the sensor network is deployed
for. Extensive previous effort has been devoted to exploring coverage
theory, which ranges from point coverage, barrier coverage to area coverage
in line with the dimension of concerned targets. Though these theoretical
investigations provide insightful understanding about coverage, there are
quite limited previous studies reporting coverage application in practical
scenarios. How much can we gain by applying theoretical coverage results
from the practical point of view? Further, some recent results are provided
about coverage problem in other research fields, such as cellular network
and social networks. Is it possible to provide a general theoretical
framework for network coverage given the understanding gained from sensor
networks? The answers to these two fundamental questions would extend the
boundaries of traditional sensor coverage and push the coverage research
from theory to practice.
The objective of this call is to bring latest thoughts and applications in
generic network coverage, that help put together a clear map for this
important area. The potential interesting topics of this call include, but
are not limited to:
ü Sensor deployment for coverage in sensor networks
ü Sensor scheduling for coverage in randomly deployed sensor networks
ü Coverage modeling in sensor networks
ü Dynamic coverage in mobile sensor networks
ü Joint optimization of coverage and connectivity
ü Practical applications in sensor networks
ü Coverage problem in varying fields
ü Practical implementations in varying fields
ü Studies on the framework of generic network coverage
ü Optimization for generic network coverage
The manuscript to this special issue must be original with significant
contributions, and have not been under review in any other journals or
conferences. Each submission must include a title, an abstract, a list of
key words, and an introduction that summarizes the contributions of the
paper, and will be reviewed according to the normal standard and procedure
of this journal. When submitting your article, please indicate that you are
submitting to the Special Issue on Network Coverage: From Theory to
Practice (SI: Network Coverage). The final versions of accepted papers must
follow the PPNA guidelines www.Springer.com/12083, with an expected page
limit of 20 pages including references and appendices

*CFP* *of Special Issue in Elsevier Computer Networks*
*Green Computing in Wireless Sensor Networks*
The past decades have witnessed the advancement of Wireless Sensor Networks
(WSNs) in both academic and industrial communities. In a WSN, a large
number of sensor nodes are deployed and networked to monitor or survey
targeted area, such that the interested data can be sensed, processed,
stored and collected. Through WSNs, we are able to bridge the physical word
and the cyber space, which composes the foundation for developing new smart
applications. Many potential applications of WSNs have been exploited in
the fields of environmental engineering, healthcare, industry, military
applications, smart home, and green buildings etc.
To enable the pervasive deployment of WSNs, the biggest stumbling block is
the contradiction between the various functionalities demanded by
applications and the limited energy supply for sensor nodes. Such a
situation is getting worse, especially considering the increasing network
scale. Therefore, in this special issue, we look at WSNs, mainly from the
perspective of green computing. On one hand, we expect to design
energy-saving (or –free) protocols cross different system layers, to
prolong the network lifetime as far as possible. Specifically, to practice
WSNs in real applications, we are supposed to achieve a tradeoff between
system performance and energy efficiency, through adapting
sensing/networking functionalities to energy budget. On the other hand, we
can resort to seeking new techniques to sustainably supply energy to sensor
nodes. For example, sensor nodes equipped with certain mechanisms can
harvest energy from surrounding circumstance, or we can rely on dedicated
devices to periodically charge the sensor nodes (if they are
re-chargeable). The above threads (or the joint optimizations cross them)
are of great significance to improve the sustainability and performance of
WSNs. Therefore, it is highly worthy to extensively investigate how we run
a WSN in a green fashion.
Topics of primary interest are centered around green computing in WSNs,
including but not being limited to:
l Energy harvesting/charging and power management
l Long-life sensor node deployment and topology control
l Energy-efficient communication protocol design
l Scheduling algorithms for sensor networks
l Energy-efficient (or –free) sensing techniques
l New applications of self-sustainable sensor networks
l Data routing, processing and storage strategies
l Network modelling and performance analysis

CALL FOR PAPERS
* IEEE International Workshop on Cyber-Physical Systems Security
(CPS-Sec)* In Conjunction with the IEEE CNS 2017
October 9-11, 2017, Las Vegas, USA
http://cns2017.ieee-cns.org/workshop/cps-sec-international-workshop-cyber-p…
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) consist of large-scale interconnected
systems of heterogeneous components interacting with their physical
environments. In the CPS realm, humans and/or smart networked devices
interact with and control the physical world around them through
actuators, sensors, etc. “CPS is envisioned to transform the way people
interact with engineered systems, just as the Internet transformed the
way people interact with information." (US National Science Foundation).
Today, the boundary between cyber and physical systems is blurring.
Indeed, cyber devices that can interact with the physical world are on
the rise. For instance, smart phones and tablets are all equipped with
various sensors (e.g., accelerometers, GPS), which enable the vision of
CPS by allowing human beings to interact with the physical world.
Similarly, a multitude of CPS devices and applications exist in
industrial, transportation, medical, home-security, building automation,
emergency management, pow
er, and many other systems, which serve critical functions in our
lives. Given the popularity of the CPS applications, securing them
against malicious activities is of utmost importance. Otherwise,
malfunctioning and insecure CPS devices and applications can cause
enormous damage to individuals, businesses, and nations.
Therefore, the International Workshop on Cyber-Physical Systems Security
(CPS-Sec) seeks novel submissions describing practical and theoretical
solutions to the cyber security challenges facing CPS. Submissions may
represent any application area for CPS. Hence, papers that are
pertinent to the security of embedded systems, Internet of Things, SCADA
Systems, Smart-Grid Systems, Critical Infrastructure Networks,
Transportation Systems, Medical Devices are all welcome. Example topics
of interest are given below, but are not limited to:
- Secure CPS architectures
