-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IEEE MASS is a premier, annual forum for sharing original, novel ideas in
mobile ad hoc networks and wireless sensor networks, defined broadly.
Continuing this tradition, the 14th IEEE International Conference on Mobile
Ad hoc and Sensor Systems (MASS) will be held in Orlando, Florida, USA, on
Oct. 22-25, 2017. Wireless ad hoc communications, Internet of Things, and
mobile computing are increasingly being used in civilian and military
applications in homes and businesses, cities and rural areas, sea and
space. Wireless sensor and actuator networks are being widely deployed for
enhancing industrial processes and management, for various forms of
environmental monitoring and control, and for improving quality of life.
Sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, IEEE MASS 2017 aims at bringing
together researchers, developers, and practitioners to address recent
advances in mobile ad-hoc and sensor-actuator systems, covering algorithms,
theories, systems, protocols, applications, experiments, and testbeds.

IEEE Communications Magazine Special issue on Heterogeneous Ultra Dense
Networks
-------------------
Call for papers
Driven by the development of mobile Internet and smart phones, data
traffic grows exponentially in current mobile networks. Initial
estimations indicate that, different from the evolutionary path of
previous cellular generations that were based on spectral efficiency
improvements, the most substantial amount of future system performance
gains will be obtained by means of network infrastructure densi?cation.
The opportunities and challenges of fifth-generation (5G) rapidly gain
great attention from academics, industries, and governments. Ultra
dense network (UDN) is a promising technique to meet the requirements of
explosive data traffic in 5G mobile communications. Moreover, when
overlaid on top of the macrocells, low power small cells (such as
femtocell and picocell) can improve the coverage and capacity of
cellular networks by exploiting spatial reuse of limited spectrum. Dense
small cells can also offload the wireless data traffic of user
equipments (UEs) from macrocells, especially for an indoor environment
where more than 80% of data traffic occurs.
This special issue will bring together academic and industrial
researchers to identify and discuss technical challenges and recent
results related to the future mobile networks using Heterogeneous Ultra
Dense Networks. Topics of interest include but are not limited to the
following:
Advanced radio access network architectures (e.g., Cloud-RAN, Fog-RAN,
Backhaul/Fronthaul techniques) to support heterogeneous ultra dense
devices and users
Coexisting of WiFi, Small Cells, HetNets and LTE/LTE-A sharing
unlicensed spectrum
Self organizing and heterogeneous ultra dense small cell networks
Advanced radio resource management (resource allocation, mobility
management, interference management, SON, etc.) for heterogeneous ultra
dense 5G networks
Software-defined networking (SDN), network function virtualization,
network slicing for supporting heterogeneous UDNs
Novel applications and service scenarios of ultra dense 5G networks in
vehicular Internet, and IoT
Energy harvesting, caching , and cognitive radio for supporting
heterogeneous UDNs
Energy efficiency, spectral efficiency, and big data techniques in
heterogeneous ultra dense scenarios
Novel multiple access techniques in heterogeneous UDNs, such as SCMA,
NOMA, PDMA, MUSA, etc.
Supporting network applications, such as video applications for
heterogeneous ultra dense networks.
Other topics (PHY layer, MAC layer, Network layer) in heterogeneous UDNs

*IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems*
*Call for papers for Special Issue on*
*“Advances in Smart and Green Transportation for Smart Cities”*
*http://www.ieee-itss.org/its-transactions-ongoing-special-issues *
*_Scope:_*
According to a recent UN report, continuing population growth and
urbanization are expected to increase world’s urban population by 2.5
billion people and 2.9 billion vehicles by 2050. This massive growth in
both population and number of vehicles, together with urban
transformation and a trend towards mega cities, creates greater and more
challenges for achieving smart transportation goals in smart cities.
Therefore, new and more integrated modes of transportation, and
*environment friendly* solutions are required to accommodate the rising
demands of high liveability in smarter cities that offer safe, secure,
affordable, reliable and sustainable transportation in old and new
markets alike.
Road transportationaccounts for more than one-fifth of the world’s total
CO2 emissions, the main greenhouse gas, from fossil fuel combustion,
placing itself as a major contributor to global climate change.
Moreover, the anticipated unprecedented increase in number of vehicles
makes transportation a main target for reducing air pollution and
achieving sustainable environment. All this incite public authorities
and governments to devise new policies to reduce CO2 emissions by
promoting public and green transport choices, supporting the private
sector for inventing innovative modes of transport and stimulating a
move towards cleaner and lower carbon vehicles. This ultimately leads to
*Green Transportation*, which means any eco-friendly transport practice
or vehicle that does not have any negative impact on the environment.
Within a Smart City, *smart and green* mobility has to be intended as
the way in which citizens access and explore the city using *advanced
and eco-friendly* transport modes. This implies being aware of the
available mobility resources (public transports, parking facilities,
bike lanes, ride sharing) and of their real value (in term of cost,
time, carbon emissions, health), but also having an easy and efficient
access to city services and events as well as a simple and unified
access to transport payments. Supporting such an inter-connected,
heterogeneous and dynamic transport system with *lower or no
environmental impact *requires the adoption of innovative and
sophisticated solutions from traffic management centers and city
administration to control the mobility resources and policies and to
proactively enhance them.
This special issue aims at publishing novel contributions presenting
services, applications and solutions that help in reducing carbon
emissions for any road transport mode or facilitate access and use of
modern and greener transport modes.
Suitable topics for this special issue include, but are not limited to:
* Congestion management and cooperative mobility applications
* Parking and electric vehicle charging applications
* Traffic information systems, traffic management, tolling, and
routing applications
* Public transport, traveler information, walking, biking, and
multimodal integration applications
* Carpooling, car sharing, on-demand taxi applications for greener
transportation
* Mobility as a service and single ticketing solutions
* Commercial vehicles, freight, and cargo management applications for
reduced carbon emissions
* Vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication modes
for green transportation
* Simulation and modelling of smart and green transportation
* Electric and hybrid vehicles
* Transportation electrification
* Green transport practice and planning
* Emissions, noise, environment
* Environmental, pollution, and noise protection aspects of smart
transportation
* Participation and gamification Techniques for
Carbon-low/Energy-efficient Mobility Behaviors
* Vehicles emission and environmental impact
* Novel application for Cyclists, Bike sharing, Car sharing, freight
management
* New Eco-driving protocols and applications
* Policies and standards for green transportation
* Synergies and Data Sharing for Smart and Green Transportation
* Safety Systems and Safety Aspects of Smart and Green Transportation
* Security and Privacy of Smart and Green Transportation
* Projects and Field Operational Tests
*_Important dates:_*

*Notification of first decision*: July 15, 2017.
*First revision submission deadline*: September 15, 2017.

IEEE SenseApp 2017
TWELFTH IEEE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON PRACTICAL ISSUES
IN BUILDING SENSOR NETWORK APPLICATIONS
(in conjunction with IEEE LCN 2017)
Singapore
9-12 October 2017
http://www.senseapp.org
CALL FOR PAPERS
For more than a decade, embedded wireless sensors and actuators have been
increasingly networked to continually narrow the gap between the physical
world and cyberspace. Domain-specific sensing deployments in scenarios
like industrial settings and home automation are becoming more and more
ubiquitous, particularly with the advent of novel sensing platforms which
allow for the seamless integration of sensing devices into everyday

Call For Competition
====================
September 2017 - Sapporo, Japan
-------------------------------
IPIN is pleased to announce the IPIN 2017 Indoor Localization
Competition, to be held during the IPIN 2017 Conference in Sapporo
(Japan). The competition is aimed at bringing together the academic and
industrial research communities for evaluating different approaches and
envisioning new research opportunities for the indoor localization area,
where no accepted standards exist yet.
IPIN 2017 Indoor Localization Competition will consist of several
tracks, including on-site and off-site contests. Results will be
presented during dedicated sessions of the IPIN conference and prizes
will be awarded to the winners.
The competition builds on the experience of previous competitions
based on EvAAL framework, ensuring experience, solidity and a
well-founded scientific method (http://evaal.aaloa.org).
Competition Tracks
------------------
Track 1: Smartphone-based
Track 2: Pedestrian dead reckoning
Track 3: Smartphone-based (off-site)
Track 4: PDR for warehouse picking (off-site)
Track 1 "Smartphone-based": A pedestrian walking in multi-floor
buildings carries a smartphone which runs the competing system, without
any external aid, using the sensors available on the smartphones to
identify the user's position in real time.
Prize: 150,000 JPY awarded by KICS (KR)
Track 2: "Pedestrian dead reckoning": The competing system
uses MEMS sensors (inertial, compass and altimeter pressure sensors)
mounted on the body to localize a pedestrian walking in multi-floor
buildings; control and monitoring devices such as a notebook are carried
by the user.
Prize: 150,000 JPY awarded by ETRI (KR)
Track 3: "Smartphone-based (off-site)": The goal is to localize a
pedestrian walking under realistic conditions in multi-floor buildings
using data provided by a conventional smartphone (WiFi, inertial,
magnetic, GPS, pressure, light, ...). Competitors calibrate their
algorithms in advance using a ground truth reference database, and
compete using new unreferenced data.
Prize: to be defined
Track 4: "PDR for warehouse picking (off-site)": Data from inertial,
pressure and magnetic sensors and BLE data from a smartphone plus
picking records from a warehouse management system (WMS) are collected
during 3 hours of actual picking work by 8 people carrying a smartphone
on their back in a warehouse, with actions including walking, picking
and carrying. Competitors obtain sample data and test data to calibrate
their algorithms, and compete using separate actual data.
Prize: 150,000 JPY or more worth prize awarded by
PDR benchmark standardization committee (JP)
Technical Competition Details
-----------------------------
The evaluation criteria for the competition, restrictions on the
accepted technologies, technical rules to follow and a description of
the benchmarks are detailed in the technical annexes to this
call. Announcements and possible refinements of the annexes, also based
on candidate competitors' comments, will be timely distributed on the
competition discussion mailing list <contest(a)evaal.aaloa.org> and will
appear on the IPIN web site.
Maps of the competition area and all the relative information will be
provided by the end of April.
All the data gathered by the competition committee during the
competition, including data produced by competing systems, will be
published after the competition for the purpose of research and
comparison. Winners of the competition will be announced during the
conference.
Competitor Admission Process
----------------------------
A "competitor" can be any individual or group of individuals working as
a single team, associated to a single or a number of organizations, who
wants to participate in one or several tracks.
Competitors apply for admission to the competition tracks by providing a
short (2 to 4 pages) "technical description" of their localization
system, including a description of the algorithms and protocols used.
The technical description must be sent by e-mail to the chairs of the
intended track. Track chairs will accept or refuse the application in a
short time, based on technical feasibility and logistic constraints.
After acceptance of the competitor's technical description, one member
of the competing team is required to register to the IPIN conference,
specifying that the registration is linked to a competition track. Full
registration to the conference covers participation in the competition
process (allocated time, support and space) and the submission of a
paper describing the system.
Competitors are required to make an oral presentation of their system
during a dedicated session at the IPIN conference. Additionally,
competitor teams are invited, but not required, to submit a paper to the
conference. The paper will follow the same peer review and publishing
process as all the other papers submitted to IPIN. If the paper is
work-in-progress, competitors can benefit from relaxed deadline as
specified below.
Competitors who wish to test their system, but do not want to be
included in the public rankings and compared with other competitors, can
ask for that special condition in advance to the chairs of the relevant
track.
