Call for Competitors
2nd Dependability Competition at the
Intl. Conf. on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks (EWSN)
February 18-19, 2017 - Uppsala, Sweden
http://www.ewsn2017.org/dependability-competition.html
Following the success of last year's edition, the International
Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks (EWSN 2017) will
host also this year a dependability competition to compare the
performance of WSN and IoT communication protocols in environments rich
of radio interference.
Contestants must first submit an abstract describing their approach in
detail by the contest registration deadline. The authors of the selected
abstracts will then be invited to participate in a two-days dedicated
competition session and asked to deploy their software on TelosB
replicas deployed in an environment with controlled radio interference.
EVALUATION SCENARIO:
The competition rules and evaluation scenario will hence resemble the
ones of last year's edition. A complete description can be found on:
http://www.ewsn2017.org/dependability-competition.html
Please notice that, due to several requests, and in order to allow the
contestants to prepare by testing their protocols on most public WSN
testbeds, also this year the EWSN dependability competition will be
carried out using TelosB-like nodes.
CATEGORIES AND PRIZE:
Depending on the nature and number of submissions, multiple
categories may be defined and cash awards will be given to the
winners in each category. Accepted abstract will appear in the
ACM digital library (upon approval of the authors) and the
top-classified contestants in each category will also be invited to
present their approach in a dedicated session at the conference.
ELIGIBILITY
Both academia and industry submissions are encouraged. All
communication protocols used in low-power wireless sensor networks
are welcome, and there is no restriction on the operating system
used to program the sensor nodes.
IMPORTANT DATES:
Contest Registration and Abstract Deadline: November 20, 2016.
Notification of acceptance: December 1, 2016.
Competition: February 18-19, 2017.
ORGANIZERS:
Carlo Alberto Boano, TU Graz
Markus Schuss, TU Graz

International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks (EWSN)
February 20-22, 2017, Uppsala, Sweden
Call for Posters and Demos
The International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks
(EWSN) is a highly selective single-track international conference
focusing on premier research results at the intersection of embedded
systems and wireless networking - an area of highest relevance for
visionary technologies such as the Internet of Things and
Cyber-physical Systems as well as applications such as Industry 4.0,
Smart Production, Smart Cities, and Connected Cars.
In addition to full research papers, EWSN solicits submissions of
poster and demo abstracts. The poster session at EWSN will provide a
forum for researchers to present their work in progress and to receive
early feedback from leading experts attending the conference. In
parallel to the poster session, the demo session will offer a unique
opportunity to showcase real prototypes, tools, and systems to the
conference attendees.
The areas of interest for both poster and demo abstracts are the same
as for full research papers. Please refer to
http://www.ewsn2017.org/call-for-papers.html for more details.
Each submission will be reviewed by at least three members of the
Posters & Demos Committee based on its quality and potential to
stimulate lively discussions during the conference. Accepted poster
and demo abstracts will be included in the conference proceedings,
which will be available in the ACM Digital Library.
Submission:
We adopt a single-blind review process for poster and demo abstracts,
so please do not anonymize your submission and include name,
affiliation, and contact information of all authors on the first
page. Please also provide a short abstract before the main body of
your paper. Submissions that do not meet the formatting requirements
as given below may not be reviewed.
Poster and demo abstracts must be submitted as a single PDF containing
no more than 2 pages, including figures, tables, and references. Pages
must have 8.5" x 11" (letter) two-column format, using 10-point font
on 11-point leading, with a maximum text block of 7" wide x 9" deep
with an inter-column spacing of .25". Titles should start with
"Poster: ..." or "Demo: ..." depending on the type of
abstract. Authors may use the LaTeX template available at
http://www.ewsn2017.org/ under Calls and Submission -> Posters &
Demos. On the same webpage, you find a link where you can submit your
poster or demo abstract.
As we particularly welcome contributions from students, the submission
system offers an option to explicitly signal whether the main author
is a student. Moreover, authors may optionally complement their
submission with a link to a video of at most 2 minutes that further
illustrates the work. Videos showing the demonstration are
particularly welcome. If the abstract is accepted, the video will be
linked directly from the EWSN website.
Presentation at the Conference:
In addition to an easel and space provided to every accepted abstract
during the poster and demo session, one author of each accepted
abstract will be given a 1-minute slot in a "madness within the main
conference program. In this session, authors will have the opportunity
to present their work to the entire conference audience, using a
single slide and a 1-minute speech. The best poster and demo will
receive an award.

Dear All,
Please find below a call for papers for Special Issue in Transactions on
Emerging Telecommunications Technologies Journal.
Please accept our apologies if you receive multiple copies of this
announcement due to cross posting.
CALL FOR PAPERS
------------------------------
Special Issue in Transactions on Emerging Telecommunications
Technologies (ETT) SI on "Recent Advances in Fog and Mobile Edge Computing"
Submission Deadline: 15/11/2016
Transactions on Emerging Telecommunications Technologies (ETT) invites
manuscript submissions in the area of Fog and Mobile Edge Computing.
Aim and Scope:
-------------------
Cloud computing provides large range of services and virtually unlimited
available resources for users. New applications, such as virtual reality
and smart building control, have emerged due to the large number of
resources and services brought by cloud computing. However, the
delay-sensitive applications face the problem of large latency,
especially when several smart devices and objects are getting involved
in human’s life such as the case of smart cities or Internet of Things.
Therefore, cloud computing is unable to meet the requirements of low
latency, location awareness, and mobility support. To solve this
problem, researchers have introduced a trusted and dependable solution
through the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC) to put the services
and resources of the cloud closer to users, which facilitates the
leveraging of available services and resources in the edge networks. By
this, we are moving from the core (cloud data centers) to the edge of
the network clos!
er to the users. FMEC dependability is based on providing user centric
service. The purpose of Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing is to run the
heavy real-time applications at the network edge directly using the
billions of connected mobile devices. Several features enable Fog and
the Mobile Edge Computing to be a perfect paradigm to the aforementioned
purpose, which are the dense geographical deployment of servers,
supporting mobility and the closeness to users. As in every new
technology, certain challenges face the vision of the Fog and the Mobile
Edge Computing, which are the administrative policies and security
concerns (i.e. secure data storage, secure computation, network
security, data privacy, usage privacy, location privacy, etc). This
Special Issue aims to investigate the opportunities and requirements for
Mobile Edge Computing dominance as well as to seek for novel
contributions that help mitigating the corresponding research challenges.
Topics of Interest:
The topics relevant to this Special Issue include but are not limited to:
• FMEC real-time communication interfaces and protocols.
• FMEC efficient communication techniques.
• FMEC and D2D communication
• FMEC security and privacy issues.
• FMEC pricing and billing models.
• FMEC support for VANETs and MANETs
• Cloudlet based computing
• Identification of incentives for FMEC service providers.
• The future perspective for FMEC: Challenges and Open Issues.
• FMEC Quality of Service (QoS) improvements techniques.
• FMEC architecture features and evolution.
• FMEC resource scheduling that enhances the reliability and
scalability.
• FMEC resources monitoring mechanism and utilization measuring
mechanism.
• FMEC resources allocation and management.
• Real-time load prediction model to optimize the user satisfaction.
• FMEC virtualization.
• Information Centric Networking (ICN) and FMEC
• Data storage, processing, and management at FMEC platform.
• Cyber hacking, next generation fire wall of FMEC.

Coherent list of topics:
--------------------------
Papers must be tailored to the emerging fields of Fog and Mobile Edge
Computing and explicitly consider recent deployments models, challenges
and novel solutions. The Guest Editors maintain the right to reject
papers they deem to be out of scope of this special issue. Only
originally unpublished contributions and invited articles will be
considered for the issue. The papers should be formatted according to
the ETT guidelines
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1002/(ISSN)2161-3915. Authors
should submit a PDF version of their complete manuscript via
Manuscriptcentral (http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ett) according to the

SmartMedDev – 3rd International Special Session on Smart Medical Devices
– from Lab to Clinical Practice
February 21 - 23, 2017, Porto, Portugal
http://www.healthinf.biostec.org/SmartMedDev.aspx
In conjunction with: 10th International Conference on Health Informatics
- HEALTHINF 2017
=====================================================================
MISSION:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The goal of this special session is to discuss the problems hindering
the widespread adoption of smart medical devices - software based,
wireless, implantable and wearable. Many brilliant ideas remain at the
level of the proof of concept and never reach the market or the clinical
practice.
We focus on high-safety health monitoring and life saving devices. We
are especially interested in sets of heterogeneous devices aggregated
around a common communication platform (smartphone), based on open
standards. In our opinion, aside of technical problems, the adoption of
such systems is restrained by organizational issues, like incorporating
in therapies applied by hospitals and reimbursed by insurances. This may
need a formal approval and calls for a well-organized quality
monitoring. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the problems, we
would like to gather a balanced group of device developers, system
integrators and clinical practitioners and provide them a convenient
forum for discussion and exchange.
We encourage authors to submit papers to one of the main topics
indicated below, or to open new perspectives and present novel points of
view on this highly dynamic and important research and application
field. Lessons learned from actual implementations of devices and
systems, prospective frameworks, future visions and position papers are

Eighth International Conference on Future Energy Systems (ACM e-Energy)
Hong Kong , May 16-19, 2017
http://conferences.sigcomm.org/eenergy/2017/
Computing and communication technologies impact energy systems in two
distinct ways. The exponential growth of these technologies has made
them large energy consumers. Therefore, new architectures, technologies
and systems are being developed and deployed to make computing and
networked system more energy efficient. Additionally, these technologies
will play a central role in the on-going transformation of our energy
systems. They help measure, monitor and control energy resources, inform
and shape human demand, and determine how utilities, generators,
regulators, and consumers interact.
The Eighth International Conference on Future Energy Systems (ACM
e-Energy), to be held in Hong Kong from the 16th to the 19th of May
2017, is the premier venue for researchers working in the broad areas of
smart energy systems, and in energy-efficient computing and
communications. By bringing together researchers in a single-track
conference designed to offer significant opportunities for individual
interaction, it is a major forum to shape the future of this area.
We seek high-quality papers on smart energy systems and
energy-efficient computing and communications. We welcome submissions
describing conceptual advances as well as system design, implementation
