CALL FOR PAPERS
Large-scale Internet of Things: Theory and Practice
Internet of Things (IoT), as an ecosystem that interconnects physical
objects with telecommunication networks, introduces a tighter connection
between the cyber space and the physical reality and will develop toward
large-scale and ubiquitous directions, imposing increasingly higher
requirements on safety, reliability, security, energy-efficiency,
performance, robustness and cost-efficiency. It also poses new problems
and challenges due to its intrinsic feature of large scale, in terms of
spatial and temporal distribution, information amount, energy
consumption, interfaces, functionalities, etc. These unprecedented
challenging issues are across the disciplines of embedded system,
manufacturing, telecommunication, computing, sensing, software
engineering, data management and analysis. Emerging and advanced
communication technologies (e.g., cloud-based radio access networks)
introduce many new opportunities to tackle the challenging issues in
large-scale ubiquitous IoT.
To address such challenges in large-scale IoT, besides requiring
intelligent algorithms for data collection and analysis, efficient
network diagnosis and management, we need new analytical tools,
fundamental mathematics beyond the confines of traditional communication
and information theories, and even methodologies from other networking
related fields like economics, biology, and thermodynamics, to shed
light on the fundamental performance limit of large scale IoT system and
to guide the design, implementation, development, and optimization of
emerging IoT technologies.
Topics of interests include (but are not limited to) the following
categories:
• Networking architectures and protocols for software-defined
large-scale IoT
• Applications, e.g., RFID for supply chain management, sensors for
smart city etc.
• Machine-to-Machine communications
• Safety, privacy and security in large-scale IoT
• Smart-grid, robot networks, unmanned aerial vehicles, vehicular networks
• Performance modeling, evaluation, and optimization for large-scale IoT
• Energy-efficient and cost-efficient algorithms, systems and protocol
design
• Analysis of spectrum efficiency, capacity, and energy efficiency for
large-scale IoT
• Experimental testbed, prototype design and implementation
• Cloud-assisted wireless networks, data management and processing

CALL FOR PAPERS
==================================================================
Slowly but steadily the Internet of Things (IoT) is penetrating and
transforming our lives. The first stage of the IoT evolution consisted
in the deployment of RFID tags for facilitating routing, taking
inventory and loss prevention of goods. After that we witnessed the
first wave of RFID and sensor network integration toward vertical-market
applications. Nowadays, new generations of RFID tags, in particular
active RFID tags, often include built-in sensing capabilities. Whereas,
applications based on sensor networks often require means for unique
identification and discovery of objects, which are monitored by the
sensor network. The convergence of sensing and identification
technologies, together with communication and computation systems,
enables us to gain impressive awareness about the state of the real
world and will drastically change the way we interact with our
environment. Urban planning, smart cities, intelligent shopping, smart
meters, home automation, security and surveillance, industrial
applications like process industry automation, supply chain, smart
product management and agricultural applications are examples of
potential applications for real-world systems. Even though the advent of
the IPv6/6LoWPAN protocol suite solved several technical issues, many
challenges are still open in the research and development communities
concerning the choice of communication paradigms, architectures and
technology.
The main focus of this workshop is on technologies, applications and
paradigms of the IoT that are already deployed or are under
investigation and that belong to the second stage of the IoT evolution.
The next step in the evolution of the IoT is its characterization as the
underlying technological layer needed to shape and substantiate higher
layer concepts such as semantic web and personalization. In fact, the
IoT is the enabling technology to allow virtual and physical worlds to
converge in what has already been defined as Web 3.0. If, currently, the
IoT is the most suited companion of blogging, podcasting, tagging and
social networking, we can imagine that its evolution will foster the
rise of statistical, machine-constructed semantic tags and algorithms
through the construction and exploitation of semantic databases
empowered by distributed and cloud computing. The integration of the IoT
with semantic databases, capable of delivering accurate information
about the nature and the state of every physical object will introduce a
staggering amount of new applications opportunities as well as
potentially lead to an ultimate “Big brother scenario”. Therefore, a
particular interest will have to be given to appropriate security and
privacy control mechanisms.
The secondary focus of this workshop is on IoT vision and perspective
towards Web 3.0.
IoTIP features two tracks:
* Current ideas: for technical works currently under investigation;
* Future perspectives: for vision papers envisaging possible future
technologies, paradigms and applications for IoT.
Topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
* IoT paradigms, architectures, applications and technologies
* IoT systems and components
* IoT for semantic web and personalization
* Tools for developing IoT applications
* Blogging, Podcasting, Tagging and Social networking through the IoT
* Cloud vs distributed computing for the IoT
* Device to device communications for the IoT
* Security and privacy control mechanisms
* Performance assessment and management (QoS, scalability,
reliability, etc)
* PHY layer, Spectrum management for IoT radio communications
* MAC protocols (e.g., scheduling, power control etc.) for IoT
* Mobility management
* Naming, address management and End-to-End Addressability
* Object, device and service management
* RFID, sensors, actuator technologies
* Middleware
* Sustainable design and technologies (e.g. energy-efficiency)
* Test-beds and field trials
* Standardization and regulatory issues
Submission guidelines
Authors are invited to submit original unpublished manuscripts that
demonstrate current research on IoTIP research topics. Standard IEEE
conference templates for LaTeX/Word formats can be found at:
http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html
.
Papers should be submitted through Easychair at the following address:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=iotip15 .
All submissions should be written in English using 10 point font and be
six (6) printed pages long maximum using 10 point font and including
figures and tables. The papers should be submitted to one of the two
tracks:
* Current ideas: for technical works currently under investigation;
* Future perspectives: for vision papers envisaging possible future
technologies, paradigms and applications for IoT.
Authors must suggest their preferred track for their paper at the time
of submission. The workshop chairs, however, reserve the right to switch
papers between tracks if they deem them a better fit for another track.
Please note that the proceedings of this workshop will appear in
IEEEXplore and will be included in DCOSS conference proceedings.
Extended versions of selected papers will be considered for publication
in IEEE IoT Journal.

Call for Papers
** 2nd ACM Conference on Information-Centric Networking (ICN 2015) **
Sponsored by ACM and ACM SIGCOMM
http://conferences.sigcomm.org/acm-icn/2015
San Francisco, USA, September 30 - October 2, 2015
Information Centric Networking (ICN) is a new network architecture intended
to provide access to information without requiring an explicit binding of
that information to a particular location. By directly addressing
information, ICN supports mobile users and mobile networked devices, offers
a higher-level communication service to applications, and promotes
authentication and efficiency in the transmission and dissemination of
information. Over the last few years, a global research and development
community has grown around the idea of ICN.
ACM ICN 2015 is the second edition of the ACM Conference on
Information-Centric Networking, which follows a series of workshops on ICN
held in conjunction with the ACM Sigcomm conference. ACM ICN 2015 is the
premier international forum for researchers and practitioners to present
and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, experiences, and
challenges in information centric networking. ACM ICN 2015 will be a
single-track conference featuring paper and poster presentations, panel
discussions, and demonstrations.
The Technical Program Committee of ACM ICN 2015 invites high-quality
submissions describing unpublished research results in all aspects of ICN,
with particular emphasis on contributions to architectural designs and
reproducible experimental evaluations. Papers submitted for consideration
should not have been already published elsewhere and should not be under
review or submitted for review elsewhere during the consideration period.
Specifically, authors are required to adhere to the ACM Policy and
Procedures on Plagiarism
(http://www.acm.org/publications/policies/plagiarism_policy) and the ACM
Policy on Prior Publication and Simultaneous Submissions
(http://www.acm.org/publications/policies/sim_submissions).
Topics of interest include:
* Architecture design and evaluation
* Comparison of different ICN architectures
* Interoperability across ICN architectures
* ICN evaluation methodology and metrics
* Analysis of scalability issues in ICN
* ICN enabled applications
* Routing in ICN
* Transport issues in ICN
* Caching
* Mobility support
* Trust management and access control
* Management in ICN
* ICN economics and business models
* Tools, experimentation facilities, and measurement methodology for ICN
* Experience from implementation
* Feasibility studies of ICN for high speed networking
* Privacy
* ICN Deployment
* ICN APIs
