Betreff: [TCCC-ANNOUNCE] CfP: First IEEE Workshop on Pervasive Energy Services (PerEnergy) -- DEADLINE EXTENDED to Dec. 7th, 2014
Please note that the deadline of PerEnergy has been extended to
December 7th, 2014!
======================================================================
CALL FOR PAPERS
First IEEE Workshop on Pervasive Energy Services (PerEnergy)
in conjunction with IEEE PerCom 2015
Extended submission deadline: December 7, 2014
March 23, 2015, St. Louis, Missouri, USA
http://perenergy2015.cs.uni-bonn.de/
======================================================================
Scope of the Workshop
---------------------
A wealth of unexplored knowledge exists in the power data collected
from smart meters and smart plugs (i.e., metering equipment for
individual wall outlets). Analysis of the data may be used to provide
context-based services (e.g., presence detection), but also serve as
the foundation for novel services (e.g. automated recommendations for
energy savings). To date, the potential of this domain has barely been
explored, although more and more energy data is becoming available due
to the increasing number of deployed smart metering equipment. At the
moment, one of the most important research challenges in smart energy
systems is thus the creation of value-added services that exploit the
information content in energy generation and consumption data in such
a way that they can inspire new functionalities and context models.
The aim of this workshop is thus to bring together practitioners and
researchers from both academia and industry in order to have a forum
for discussion and technical presentations on the recent advances in
the numerous opportunities opened up by the use of energy data in
context-aware systems. It furthermore serves as a forum for the smart
energy research community to discuss open issues, novel solutions and
the future development of smart energy management systems in general.
Topics of Interest
------------------
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Novel architectures for the integration of smart meter/smart plugs
into pervasive computing systems
- Seamless energy meter integration in the design and architecture of
smart home/office spaces
- Applications relying on energy data including, for instance,
energy optimization and sustainable operation of smart
cities, household load disaggregation, generation and load
forecasting, and other means for informed load shifting
- Novel business models relying on energy data
- Collection, processing, and integration of energy data to improve
the control over loads and generation (e.g., distributed renewable
sources)
- Security and privacy considerations in smart energy metering,
including novel means to mitigate privacy and security threats
- Experiences with experimental power metering system prototypes and
pilots
- Power metering testbeds and data sets for the comparison of
household characteristics and processing approaches in a globalized
world
- Industrial use cases showing gaps to be filled by future research
Submission Instructions
-----------------------
Authors are invited to submit regular (full) papers for presentation
at the workshop, describing original, previously unpublished work,
which is not currently under review by another workshop, conference,
or journal. Regular papers should present novel perspectives within
the general scope of the workshop.
Submissions of papers must be formatted according to the IEEE 8.5x11
conference format and must not exceed 6 pages. Papers in excess of page
limits shall not be considered for review or publication.
Accepted papers will appear in the IEEE PerCom '15 Workshops
proceedings published by IEEE Computer Society Press. The authors
of accepted papers must guarantee that their paper will be presented
at the workshop. Each accepted paper requires a full PERCOM
registration to appear in the proceedings (no registration is
available for workshops only).
Submissions are handled through the EDAS system. It is a requirement
that all authors listed in the submitted paper are also listed in
EDAS. The author section of EDAS will be locked after the workshop
submission deadline to ensure that conflicts of interest can be
properly enforced during review. If the list of authors differs
between the paper and EDAS, the paper may not be reviewed.
Further submission instructions can be found on the workshop web page:

---------------------------------------------
Fueled by the increasing popularity of the Internet and evermore
bandwidth-hungry services, networking technologies constitute one of the
most fast growing areas in the field of the IT industry. This fast growth
has led to a point where the energy expenditure of networking
infrastructure constitutes a significant portion of the total energy
expenditure and moreover, the trend is towards an additional increase.
Thus, the development of energy efficient networking technologies for the
various segments (backbone and access parts) of today's Internet has
recently emerged as a significant research area. The primary focus of such
green technologies, is towards reduction of the energy footprint of the
networking infrastructure, thus enabling sustainable development, low
operational costs and environmental safety.
The objective of this special issue is to report state-of-the art results
in energy-efficient networking protocols by welcoming contributions
originating from both academic and industrial research. These should be
original contributions solicited in relevant areas of energy-efficient
networking protocols.
Topics (Areas of interest for this special issue include the following
topics):
-Algorithms for energy-efficient design and operation of optical backbone
networks
-Energy-efficient protocols for optical access networks
-Energy-efficient protocols in wireless networking
-Energy-efficient MAC protocols
-Energy-Efficient Protocols for mobile networks,
-Energy-Efficient Protocols for sensor networks
-Energy-efficient protocols in machine to machine networks
-Energy-efficient protocols in RFID networks
-Energy-efficient routing protocols
-Energy-efficient transport protocols
-Adaptive energy-efficient protocols
-Performance evaluation studies of energy-efficient solutions
-Tools and models for energy-efficient network design
-Application and implementation issues

ABOUT THE FACHGESPRAECH
----------------------------------------------------
More about previous editions: http://fg-ivc.car2x.org/
Inter-vehicle communication (IVC), the management and control of network
connections among vehicles as well as between vehicles an existing
network infrastructure, is a maturing research field that is currently
gaining massive momentum. The investment of European automobile
manufacturers and OEMs into this idea is not only expressed in
successful efforts to reserve dedicated radio spectrum harmonized across
Europe, but is also reflected in numerous research ventures in
cooperation with academia.
First standardization efforts across all layers, by both IEEE and ETSI,
have already borne fruit, allowing researchers to gain valuable insights
into both the strengths and the shortcomings of current approaches. A
tremendous body of experience could be gathered in both national and
international large scale field tests as well as in the domain of
simulation and modeling. However, this knowledge is still fragmented,
making it hard for new players to get into the game and affording even
experienced groups only a restricted view on this complex field.
---------------------------------
GOALS
---------------------------------
We invite young researchers and their experienced colleagues to discuss
new research directions and early results in the areas of inter-vehicle
communication and automated vehicles.
This third edition of the GI/ITG KuVS Fachgespräch Inter-Vehicle
Communication will discuss vehicular communications in general, this
year also inspired by new ideas in the context of automated vehicles.
Automated driving has made several leaps forward in the past years, with
the Google Car reaching a record of about 1.1 million autonomously
driven kilometers and governments across the world starting the
legislative process that will allow purchased autonomous vehicles to
drive on normal roads. This significant progress led some to pose the
question of the necessity of vehicular communication systems,
considering the many privacy and security issues associated with them.
Topics of interest for this edition include:
* Communication protocol design and network management
* Channel modeling, modulation and coding
* Congestion control and scalability issues
* Medium access control protocols
* Multi-channel organization and operation
* Vehicle-to-vehicle/roadside/Internet communication
* Vehicle-to-cyclist/Vehicle-to-pedestrian communication
* Applications of vehicular networks
* Simulation frameworks
* Real-world testbeds
* Autonomous driving
* Cooperative driving
* Security in automated vehicles
* Traffic management for automated vehicles
* Human interfaces for automated vehicles
* Security issues and countermeasures
* Misbehavior detection in vehicular and in-vehicle communication
* Privacy in traffic applications
* Electric vehicle applications
