CALL FOR PAPERS
Med-Hoc-Net 2014
The 13th IFIP Annual Mediterranean Ad Hoc Networking Workshop
http://netlab.cs.ucla.edu/medhocnet2014
June 2-4, 2014
Piran, Slovenia
OVERVIEW
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wireless ad hoc networks have attracted considerable attention from the
research
community in the last several years. Now that many of the fundamental
topics and
challenges have been deeply investigated, the focus is partially
shifting to new
issues, which include data-centric operations, autonomous organization,
service
creation/support, continued operation under intermittent connectivity,
optimization, control, cross-layer design and application scenarios
(road safety,
disaster recovery, smart cities, energy efficient buildings, sensors,
actuators,
wearables, etc.). Moreover, novel and exciting challenges are introduced by
commercial systems adopting the ad hoc paradigm, from mesh, sensor and
vehicular
networks, and by associated delay-tolerant and opportunistic scenarios.
Furthermore, today's market explosion of smart phones is creating new
opportunities for wireless ad hoc social networks, the study of which
requires
the combination of opportunistic ad hoc networking aspects with the
understanding
of social behavior and mobility patterns.
MED-HOC-NET 2014 focuses on all the ramifications of ad hoc networking
research,
not only the classic topics of location management, security/privacy,
topology
optimization/control schemes and resource allocation, but also paying
attention
to novel emerging areas such as green networking, safety/surveillance,
underwater
communications, and coexistence among heterogeneous devices.
The Workshop is endorsed by the IEEE Communication Society and its Technical
Committees for Ad Hoc & Sensor Networks, Information Infrastructure &
Networking,
and Radio Communication, and by IFIP.

Special Issue on Green Communications
Elsevier Computer Networks
-----------------------------------------------
* Deadline: February 28, 2014 *
http://www.journals.elsevier.com/computer-networks/call-for-papers/special-…
One of the most urgent challenges of the 21st century is to investigate
new technologies that can enable a transition towards a more sustainable
society with a reduced carbon footprint. It is well understood that ICT
is one of the keys to a future low-carbon and sustainable society.
Communications technologies will be critical to achieving large-scale
energy savings in all domains including communications, manufacturing,
transportation, buildings, and electricity generation and distribution.
In this context, there is a critical need for new ways of reducing
energy consumption of communication systems if the current trajectory of
traffic growth and supporting anywhere/anytime/anything access is to
continue unabated. Energy costs are significant in a broad range of
communications networks ranging from data center networks (where network
equipment consume about 15% of the overall energy used) to cellular
networks (where energy use of base stations amounts to around 70% of the t!
otal). The need for ‘greener’ communications technologies has been
recognized by the research community as demonstrated by the significant
research efforts in this area during the last years. However, many
challenges still remain to be addressed.
The special issue of Computer Networks on Green Communications will
focus on recent research results in the area of green communications. We
seek papers describing research results that show significant energy
savings in communications systems. We also seek survey and tutorial
papers in green communications. Topics of interest include (but are not
limited to):

The 11th Annual Conference on
Wireless On-demand Network Systems and Services
Technical sponsorship: IEEE, IEEE ComSoc, IFIP
April 2-4, 2014
Obergurgl, Austria
http://2014.wons-conference.org/
As more and more users become increasingly dependent on wireless and
mobile communicationsIncreasingly more people become dependent on
wireless and mobile communications. It is therefore necessary to ensure
that they get obtain connectivity and service support on demand. This
may be provided by a new generation of wireless technologies such as
mesh networks, ad hoc delay tolerant and opportunistic networks, sensor
networks, and vehicular networks. The technologies will be integrated
with the Internet, the cloud, and with legacy wireless technologies such
as 3G and 4G cellular and WiFi.
There are many challenges to be addressed, including integration of
infrastructure-based and ad hoc networks, development of robust and
lightweight algorithms for self-organization, reconfiguration at all
layers of the protocol stack, as well as on-demand service models and
their provision in a highly dynamic environments with mobile users.
WONS, now in its eleventh edition, has established itself as a
high-quality forum to address these challenges based on innovative
contributions by experts in the field who meet in the context of a
conference that is rich in interactions.
This announcement solicits original submissions of high-quality research
papers on “wireless on-demand networks” that provide novel insights on
protocol and network design, modeling, performance evaluation,
profitability models, energy efficiency, QoS models and mechanisms,
practical implementations, service level aspects, application use cases
and Internet integration of wireless networks.
Topics related to all kinds of wireless on-demand networks comprise, but
are not limited to:
• New architectures for on-demand wireless systems
• Intra-body and biomedical on-demand systems
• Performance evaluation through simulations and experiments
• Modeling, optimization, and game theoretic aspects
• Integration and co-existence of heterogeneous technologies
• Social and economic aspects
• Pervasive and ubiquitous computing
• Localization and mobility management
• Security, privacy, and trust
• Novel applications and services (e.g. mobile augmented reality and
mobile cloud)
• Energy-efficient protocols and power management
• Cross-layer design
• Implementations and testbeds
• Opportunistic, delay-tolerant, and dissemination-based protocols
• Mobile peer-to-peer systems
• Middleware aspects
• Self-X and network management
• Cognitive radio networks
• Green wireless networks

by Pavlos Sermpezis 25 Nov '13
25 Nov '13
The Sixth IEEE International Workshop on Network Science for
Communication Networks will be held in Toronto - Canada on April 27 -
May 2, 2014 in conjunction with IEEE Infocom 2014.
http://www.ctr.kcl.ac.uk/netscicom14/
* !! BEST PAPER AWARD !! *
We are very glad to announce a best paper award of $150, sponsored by
Technicolor. Additionally, a student author of the best paper (or
another author, if no student is a co-author) will receive up to $800
for travel expenses to attend the workshop (e.g., registration, airfare,
accommodation).
CALL FOR PAPERS
Scope:
Network science is a newly emerging discipline with applications in a
variety of domains, such as, communication networks, power grid
networks, transportation networks, social networks, biological networks
and economics. Designing complex communication networks of the future
needs a deep understanding of the interplay between the physical-, the
communication- and the social networks involved. An understanding of
such interdependency can only be achieved by closer interaction between
network scientists, communication network designers, and social and
behavioral scientists. The goal of this workshop is to a provide a forum
where this diverse group of researchers can meet and exchange ideas that
will lead to deeper insights into the design of robust, efficient and
complex communication networks of the future.
Topics of Interest:
The topics of this workshop lie at the intersection of network science
and communication network design - including topology design and
analysis, traffic modeling, traffic routing, social media analysis:
blogs and friendship networks, bio-inspired networks, internet scale
measurement and analysis of online communities, social network analysis
with mobile phone data, interdependency between power grid,
communication and transportation networks.
