The primary objective of IJARAS is to provide worldwide readership to high quality, novel, effective approaches to design, develop, maintain, evaluate, and benchmark adaptive-and-dependable systems, i.e. devices and services that are built to sustain quality of service and quality of experience despite the occurrence of potentially significant and sudden changes or failures in their infrastructure and surrounding environments. IJARAS has multiple focuses, ranging from conceptual models and paradigms to technological aspects. IJARAS builds upon a core mission statement and research direction: The awareness of today's urgent need to structure our computer systems as adaptive systems able to constantly re-optimize in the face of changes both exogenous (environmental) and endogenous (pertaining to internal assets). IJARAS introduces a problem, which implies a research direction---athesis. The truth about this statement is drastically reverberating through several domains, and in so doing several seemingly unrelated research domains such as cross-layer adaptation for mobile devices and business process re-engineering can be regarded as special cases of a larger theory of systems. This vision paves the way to cross-fertilization; and through that, IJARAS aims at becoming a powerful tool to steer novel ideas and inject new research directions in this area. Overview Wireless connected robots and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have enabled great potentials and a large space for ubiquitous and pervasive applications. Robotics and WSNs have mostly been considered as separate research fields and little work has investigated the marriage between these two technologies. However, these two technologies share several features, enable common cyber-physical applications and provide complementary support to each other. This increases overall cost of medical care. Therefore, partially replacing the assistance of nursing staff by small health surveillance and communication equipments like sensors, networks, monitoring software could be cost effective and would also increase life standard. Recent Advances in technology has led to the development of small, intelligent, wearable sensors capable of remotely performing critical health monitoring tasks and then transmitting patient's data back to health care centers over wireless medium. Such wireless health monitoring platforms aim to continuously monitor mobile patients needing permanent surveillance. However, to set up such platforms several issues along the communication chain should be resolved. The acquisition of medical information via a set of wireless sensors embedded in the patient himself, the treatment and use of this information either by a local contractor equipment or offset after transfer in 3G and/or WiFi connection to a data server, the access to the collected data, ...etc. are some of the important challenges that we have to consider. Each level represents a fairly complex subsystem with a local hierarchy employed to ensure efficiency, portability, security, and reduced cost. After the success of MobileHealth'2011 in Paris - France, the second edition of the workshop will be held in Hilton Head Island - South Carolina - USA on June 11th, 2012 in conjunction with the 13th edition of ACM MobiHoc conference (MobiHoc 2012). MobileHealth'2012 workshop aims to provide a forum for the interaction of these multiple areas and would be an important chance to discuss and understand what aspects have to be considered to provide effective pervasive wireless healthcare systems. The workshop will include presentations of theoretical and experimental achievements, innovative wireless systems, prototyping efforts, case studies and advances in technology related to wireless healthcare networking and systems. Many new, next generation and advance future services are being conceived. The phenomenon of IP-based services delivered to mobile devices is likely to put pressure on the existing user-network business relationship. One specific perspective, which is missing in the current wireless telecom market today, is the one that reflects the user-centric view, in which the user (and his/her service) is put to the center of the networking problem, and thus the user is not one of many clients contending for a connection to the network, but the network operator is one of many providers that contend to satisfy the user’s service. Service providers and wireless access network providers will need to rethink their techno-business models, and reshape their focus towards services and applications which are independent and portable of the underlying access and transport networks. Users especially need to be fully facilitated in exploiting opportunities of being always best connected and best served (ABC&S). All these trends are likely to have a disruptive impact on the current telecom ecosystem calling for a more dynamic and flexible process of interaction between telecom business players towards a mutually beneficial proposition. This novel environment will create several new service access scenarios and benefits that are not currently available to mobile users, including greater service choice and service management capabilities, all of which require appropriate software engineering techniques, tools and formalisms to support these activities. New ideas and innovation in communication software design, development, implementation, configuration, assessment, testing, optimization, maintenance and reengineering, are vital to the success of these developments. We believe that large-scale datasets are important, not only in communication network design, but also for fundamental study in other academic disciplines, e.g., epidemiology, urban planning, and social science. Complex networks research has flourished since 1989 when the first large Internet (and later WWW) datasets became available. To achieve similar improvements in mobile networking and related fields, large-scale, and ideally planet-scale, datasets must be collected and made available. This 4th ACM HotPlanet workshop will challenge the community to collect large-scale human mobility traces as well as to propose novel mobility data processing and knowledge discovery techniques, also showcasing demonstrations of innovative realworld technology. Regulatory, legal and ethical issues in planet-wide data collection FULL PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES All submitted papers will be carefully evaluated based on their originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of expression. Accepted papers will be published by ACM and placed in the ACM Digital Library. Submissions must be in English, no longer than 6 pages and in PDF format, and use the ACM templates. All fonts must be embedded within the PDF and be Type 1 (scalable). Authors of accepted papers must guarantee that their papers will be registered and presented at the workshop. Accepted papers will be published in the Conference proceedings. Instructions for final manuscript format and requirements will be posted on the HPCS 2012 Conference web site. It is our intent to have the proceedings formally published in hard and soft copies and be available at the time of the conference. The proceedings is projected to be included in the IEEE Digital Library and indexed accordingly. Extended versions of selected papers will be considered for publication in a special issue of an ISI Journal (to be confirmed).
