IEEE WiMob 2012
The 8th IEEE International Conference on Wireless
and Mobile Computing, Networking and Communications
8 - 10 October 2012
Barcelona, Spain
http://conferences.computer.org/WiMob2012
CALL FOR PAPERS
The IEEE WiMob conference is an international forum for the exchange of
experience and knowledge among researchers and developers concerned with
wireless and mobile technology. For seven years, the International IEEE
WiMob conference has provided unique opportunities for researchers to
interact, share new results, show live demonstrations, and discuss
emerging directions in Wireless Communications, Mobile Networking and
Ubiquitous Computing.
IEEE WiMob 2012 will be held at Casa Convalescència, Barcelona, Spain.
The conference will be hosted by Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya
(UPC). Barcelona is one of the most touristic towns in Europe and
capital of the Modernism. In fact, Casa Convalescència building is one
of the great works of Catalan Modernism, and was declared Historical
Artistic Monument in 1978 and World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO in
1997.
IEEE WiMob 2012 is soliciting high quality technical papers addressing
research challenges in the areas of wireless communications, wireless
networking, mobility, nomadicity, ubiquitous computing, services and
applications. Papers should present original work validated via
analysis, simulation or experimentation. Practical experiences and
Testbed trials also are welcome. IEEE WiMob 2012 will host three
parallel symposiums, including but not limited to the following topics:
1. Wireless Communications
- Broadband Wireless Communication Systems
- Channel Measurement and Characterization
- Signal Separation and Interference Rejection
- Location Estimation and Tracking

========================================================================
Overview
As computing is gradually integrated with every aspect of our lives and
activities, sensing technology is becoming pervasive. Sensing devices
integrated with networking and computing components can provide
continuous inputs from monitoring their surroundings and even internals.
Actuating devices can also be integrated and become new output devices.
The advancing of sensing and networking technology has created enormous
opportunity for developing new computer systems and applications of
societal importance. Thus, it is not a surprise that sensor networks
have attracted many researchers and practitioners in recent years.
Nevertheless, we believe the sensor networking and their systems and
applications have become a significant force that will reshape the
landscape of computing.
We are motivated to set up a forum for researchers and practitioners to
exchange ideas in development of sensor networks and
their applications. The Fifth International Workshop on Sensor Networks

=====
SCOPE
=====
Opportunistic networks represent an emerging
communication paradigm for pervasive and ubiquitous computing by supporting
wireless communications in intermittently connected scenarios. Opportunistic
Networks are examples of wireless, ad hoc networks where there is an absence of
a continuous end-to-end path. The proliferation of mobile device usage creates
opportunities for nodes to forward packets in a dynamic way, utilizing nodes as
they present themselves. When two devices come into contact, opportunistically,
it provides an opportunity to match services to resources, exchange
information, and forward messages.
The scope of this workshop is to provide an international
forum for researchers with the aim of encouraging the exchange of ideas and
experience in the field of Opportunistic Networks.
==================
TOPICS OF INTEREST
==================
The main topic areas of interest include, but are not
limited to the following:
• Opportunistic routing
• Social routing as applied to opportunistic or sensor
networks • Optimization methods for opportunistic sensor networks • Modelling
and simulation for opportunistic or sensor networks • Control of privacy and
security problems in opportunistic or sensor networks • Analysing performance
of opportunistic network algorithms and protocols • Methods for inviting
opportunistic nodes and for controlling them • Methods for detecting suitable
opportunistic nodes with useful resources and facilities • Intelligent systems
that utilize opportunistic networking approaches • Emergent collective
intelligent networks • Vehicular networking • Opportunistic networking for
logistics and distribution • Opportunistic networking for e-business and
m-business • Best practices, case studies and research use cases.

========================== CALL FOR PAPERS ===========================
Elsevier - Computer Communications Journal
Special Issue on Information-Centric Networking
======================================================================
Information-Centric Networking (ICN) is proposed as an architecture
for the future Internet. The basic idea is to make units of
information accessible to the networking protocols and turn them into
the unit of networking. Main advantages are conjectured to come from
a much better support for mobility, data security, as well as caching
and replication. ICN has by now been investigated in a number of
projects.
This special issue aims to collect new, innovative material on the
theory, the design, and the practical applicability of ICN. In
particular, material that advances the level of maturity, scalability
and real-life dependability of ICN are welcome.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Analytic models for the behavior of information-centric networking,
especially for scalability properties
- Models for workloads (both amount of traffic as well as kinds and
size of objects along with request patterns)
- Capacity analysis of ICN
- Caching in ICN, in particular, cache placement and cache management
(e.g., replacement algorithms) along with resource management for
caches, links, and routers
- Coexistence of ICN protocol stacks with legacy stacks (e.g., IP) as
well as coexistence of multiple ICNs with each other on the same
network fabric
- Suitability of ICN for all kinds of workloads, in particular,
streaming and interactive multimedia workloads
- Security in ICN
- Mobility support by ICN
- Energy efficiency of ICN
- Active objects in ICN, adding functionality and execution semantics
to information objects
- Consistency and coherence models for replicated, static or active
information objects, along with revision handling and updating
protocols
- Structuring applications on top of ICN (both legacy and possible new
applications) as well as suitable application programming interfaces
(complementing or replacing a "socket"-style interface standard)
- Interoperability between different ICN solutions
- Practical experience, test-beds, open-source software

Workshop date: June 11, 2012
--------------------------------------------
To prolong the life time of battery-powered computing systems, low-power
components and protocols have been proposed. However, a battery-powered
system has a finite operation time. Power supplies using energy-
harvesting devices apparently open the door to unlimited and
uninterrupted operation. This requires a dedicated power management
that predicts available power budgets and aims at maximizing
performance metrics for a given budget. Power management encompasses
many facets, such as power leakage, radio duty cycle, sampling rates,
harvesting efficiency, energy intake prediction, etc.
WORKSHOP FORMAT AND TOPICS
The focus of this workshop is to provide a platform for discussing
intermediate research results and for vivid exchange of ideas. It is
also intended to identify required steps and promising future research
directions within scope in order to push the penetration power of
energy-harvesting sensor networks one step forward. For that purpose, we
particularly enencourage preliminary contributions by Ph.D. students in
addition to completed work. In addition to paper presentations, there
will be a poster and demo session.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Power management concepts for energy harvesting systems
- Power-aware scheduling, algorithms, and operating systems
- Network-wide and distributed energy management
- Energy-aware network planning (e.g., routing, duty-cycle adaptation)
- Scaling laws and fundamental limits
- Energy and performance profiling
- Online accounting of energy consumption
- Energy-harvesting prototypes
- Energy storage and buffers
- Models of energy harvesters
- Methods for energy intake prediction
- Real-world deployments and field tests
Submitted papers will be peer-reviewed in a blind review process. Papers
will be selected according to their relation to the workshop scope,
novelty, and quality of presentation. Diversity of workshop topics will
also be considered. Accepted and presented papers will be published in
IEEE Xplore. Extensions of selected papers will be published in a special
issue of "Ad Hoc & Sensor Wireless Networks".
