CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE GLOBECOM 2011 C Wireless Networking Symposium
Houston, Texas, USA
December 5-9, 2011
Extended Paper Submission Deadline: March 20, 2011
http://www.ieee-globecom.org/cfp.html
Scope of the Symposium
----------------------
Wireless
networks are expected to encompass heterogeneous access technologies
and the Internet backbone for providing services to both mobile and
stationary users. It poses significant technical challenges to enable
broadband wireless access with seamless and ubiquitous coverage and
quality-of-service provisioning. The objective of this symposium is to
serve as an international forum for experts from academia, industry and
government to exchange ideas and results on research and development,
and to promote and accelerate standardization, applications, and
services of current and future wireless networks. Prospective authors
are invited to submit original contributions on all aspects of wireless
networks, applications and services, including, but not limited to, the
following topics of interest. Please note that this symposium focuses
on research problems above the physical layer (although papers on
cross-layer design/optimization are welcome). Papers solely addressing
wireless communications problems at the physical layer should be
submitted to other relevant symposia of IEEE GC 2011.

Scope and Motivation
Energy efficient processes are increasingly key priorities for ICT
companies with attention being paid to both ecological and economic
drivers. Although in some cases the use of ICT can be beneficial to the
environment (for example by reducing journeys and introducing more
efficient business processes), countries are becoming increasingly aware
of the very large growth in energy consumption of telecommunications
companies. In particular, the predicted future growth in the number of
connected devices and the Internet bandwidth of an order of magnitude or
two is not practical if it leads to a corresponding growth in energy
consumption. Regulations may therefore come soon, particularly if
Governments mandate moves towards carbon neutrality. Therefore this
track is of great importance in seeking to establish the current trends
in system and network performance due to known environmental concerns.
In particular we believe that substantial advances can be achieved
through the innovative use of new architectures, protocols, and
algorithms operating on hardware which will itself allows significant
reductions in energy consumption. This will represent a significant
departure from accepted practices where ICT and networking services are
provided to meet the growing demand, without any regard for the energy
consequences of relative location of supply and demand.
Main Topics of Interest
1. Power consumption trends in the Internet, (including core, metro,
access and home networks) and the green agenda.
2. Network architecture design for low power operation.
3. Routing protocols for energy minimisation in core, metro and access
networks.
4. Traffic shaping and policy implementation for energy minimisation in
networks.
5. Network monitoring for energy consumption minimisation.
6. Electronic routing versus photonic switching for energy minimisation.
7. Low cost, low energy large photonic switching fabrics.
8. Uncooled switching and routing components.
9. Intelligent low power router circuits.
10. Hardware power consumption models.
11. Transmission energy saving.
12. Possible avenues for standards and intervention.

CALL FOR PAPERS
HotCPS 2011: Workshop on Hot Topics in Cyber-Physical Systems
http://cpschina.org/hotcps/
Dalian, China, July 9, 2011
We are currently on the brink of a revolutionary transformation from
stand-alone embedded systems to ubiquitous cyber-physical systems (CPS) that
bridge the virtual world of computing and communications and the real world.
Cyber-physical systems are tight integrations of computation, networking,
and physical objects. It is believed that CPS will transform how we interact
with the physical world just like the Internet transformed how we interact
with one another. Ubiquitous applications and services enabled by CPS are
opening up great opportunities for improving the quality of our daily life.
To fully explore the potential of CPS, however, significant challenges are
yet to be overcome.
HotCPS is a forum for researchers and practitioners from the global Chinese
community (but not restricted to) to present and discuss innovative ideas
and results on hot topics in the rapidly emerging filed of CPS. HotCPS 2011
will be a highly selective and interactive workshop. Besides research paper
presentations, the workshop will feature invited talks and interactive/panel
discussions. The workshop will be held in Dalian, China on July 9, 2011. We
particularly look for well-written papers containing novel work in the
following topic areas:
- Control theory and techniques for CPS
- Cyber-physical networks and software
- Innovative applications and services enabled by CPS

CPSCom 2011
The 4th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Cyber, Physical, and Social
Computing
http://cpscom.org/
Sponsored by IEEE, IEEE CS, IEEE TCSC and ACM China
Dalian, China, October 19–22, 2011
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. INTRODUCTION
The physical things and the human society have formed into the world we live
in. However, the emergence of information technologies enables a new
infrastructure for a technical, economic and social revolution, which have
changed the world we are used to. Cyber-physical systems couple the cyber
aspects of computing and communications with the physical aspects of
dynamics that must abide by the laws of physics. Social computing has become
more widely known because of proliferation of online social networking in
recent years. With the advent of ubiquitous sensing, future social networks
will become cyber-physical, combining measured elements of the physical
world. The convergence of computational and physical processes as well as
human's social behaviors exhibits a variety of complicated characteristics,
which leads to a lot of challenges.
The 2011 IEEE/ACM International Conference on Cyber, Physical, and Social
Computing (CPSCom'11) will provide a high-profile, leading-edge forum for
researchers, engineers, and practitioners to present state-of-art advances
and innovations in theoretical foundations, systems, infrastructure, tools,
testbeds, and applications for the CPSCom, as well as to identify emerging
research topics and define the future. CPSCom'11 is the next edition of the
successful series, previously held as CPSCom'10 (Hangzhou, China, December
2010), CyberSocialCom'09 (Hangzhou, China, November 2009), and CPSC'09
(Brisbane, Australia, July 2009).

Call for papers: Special Session on Urban Sensing at the 26th International Symposium on Computer and Information Sciences (ISCIS 2011) The 26th International Symposium on Computer and Information Sciences (ISCIS 2011) will be held in London at the Royal Society, on September 26-28, 2011 and is organised by Imperial College. We are calling for papers on a special session focusing on urban sensing. The emergence of the smartphones as a multi-purpose computing platform has been one of the most exciting technological developments of recent years. These devices have a computing power which several years ago was associated with desktop computers, and have a collection of integrated sensors ranging from cameras and arrays of microphones to GPS, accelerometers and gyroscopes. They often maintain a permanent infrastructure-based internet connection, but they can also participate in peer-to-peer communication using WiFi in infrastructure or ad-hoc mode, Bluetooth and near-field
communication. The always on / always available usage pattern of these devices ensures that their penetration and mobility follows that of their users, providing full coverage of the urban areas of the developed world, and rapidly expanding to the developing countries. Urban sensing is an emergent field of computing which takes advantage of these capabilities to develop applications with high social and economic value. We are requesting high quality, research or applications papers on topics associated with urban sensing. Papers which dealing with the following aspects are especially encouraged: The sensing aspect: What type of observations can the sensor make and how can the data be collected and validated? How can we draw inferences, make predictions and take actions based on the collected data? Distributed approaches which store and process the data in-network are of a special interest. The social aspect: What is the relationship of the owner of the smartphone to the data and to
the other participants? How are the interests of the providers of the services and beneficiaries of the services reconciled? Approaches based on both altruistic (e.g. citizen computing) and self-interested (e.g. market based) models are of interest. What is the relationship between the collaboration implied by urban sensing to the social networks of the participants? Agent based models of the social and cultural aspects of urban sensing are of special interest. The networking aspect: What are the networking architecture implications of urban sensing? What are the relative benefits of peer to peer vs. infrastructure based communication? Investigations into non-traditional communication technologies - such as proximity based or opportunistic communication are especially encouraged. The security and privacy aspect: What are the security and privacy risks associated by participating in urban sensing? What attack scenarios can a malicious participant use to falsify the resulting data and
how can the system defend against such attacks? How can we negotiate the trade-off between the privacy cost and societal benefits of applications? Authors are invited to submit original research papers that have not been published or submitted elsewhere. All papers will be peer reviewed and evaluated on the basis of technical quality, relevance, significance, and clarity. The Proceedings of ISCIS 2011 will be published in the Springer Lecture Notes notes on Electrical Engineering, known as LNEE. Also, an extended and revised version of the best papers will be considered for publication in The Computer Journal. Networked Embedded Systems: Humans in the Loop
CONET Summer School
Bertinoro, Italy, July 24-30, 2011
www.cooperating-objects.eu/school/2011
THEME -- Sensor networks, cyber-physical systems, and cooperating
objects are becoming an important part of our daily life. Humans
build, deploy, use, and maintain these systems that can sense our
activities and influence our behavior. We will increasingly rely on
these networked embedded systems, therefore also requiring a secure
and privacy-preserving treatment of sensitive human-centric
data. Novel paradigms and solutions are also needed to allow humans to
interact with these systems. This school explores the manifold
relationship between networked embedded systems and humans as their
creators, users, and subjects.
GOALS & AUDIENCE -- The goal of the summer school is to survey
fundamental and applied aspects of networked embedded systems and
their relationship to humans, as well as to identify novel
opportunities and research directions in these areas through a series
of lectures by international experts. Participants will also
experience the relevant technologies during hands-on courses and be
given a chance to present their own work during a participants'
workshop. The school will provide a great opportunity to know other
people working in the field, to meet distinguished scholars, and to
establish contacts that may lead to research collaborations in the
future. We expect about 60 participants. The intended audience are
postgraduate students, PhD students, and young researchers from
universities and industrial laboratories around the world.
TOPICS
- Design and implementation of networked embedded systems
- Debugging and validation of networked embedded systems
- Management and maintenance of networked embedded systems
- Sensing and affecting behavior of humans and other organisms
