Scope
---------
Wireless vehicular communications has been identified as a key
technology for increasing road safety, transport efficiency, and
providing Internet access on the move to ensure wireless ubiquitous
connectivity. Based on short- and medium-range communication like DSRC
or WiFi as well as long-range cellular systems, vehicular networking
will enable vehicular safety applications (including collision
avoidance and safety warnings), efficiency applications (e.g.,
real-time traffic congestion and routing information), and other
commercial or public authority applications (high-speed tolling,
mobile infotainment, and many others). The ACM VANET 2011 workshop
intends to cover a widening range of research topics, which are
related to vehicular networking applications, services, and systems.
Beyond systems that are integrated into vehicles, the workshop scope
includes, e.g., vehicle- or traffic-related smartphone applications.
The great potential of this technology has been acknowledged with the
establishment of ambitious research programs on vehicular
communication systems worldwide, such as the current InteractIVe and
eCoMOVE projects within the European eSafety framework, various US
programs derived from USDOT projects, and the Japanese Smartway and
Advanced Safety Vehicle programs. Furthermore, vehicular communication
and networking also present a very active field of standardization
activities worldwide, like ISO TC204, IEEE (802.11p and 1609.x), and
SAE J2735 in the US, ETSI TC ITS and CEN WG278 in Europe and ARIB T-75
in Japan, as well as field trials like the large-scale Safety Pilot in
the US, simTD in Germany and SCORE-F in France.
The Eighth ACM International Workshop on VehiculAr Inter-NETworking
(ACM VANET 2011) will cover all vehicular wireless networking aspects
using a variety of wireless communication techniques (from short-range
DSRC/WiFi to long-range cellular communication). The topics not only
cover the design and implementation of vehicular communication systems
and applications but also include the potential implications on
transport efficiency and safety, liability issues, standardizations
efforts, and spectrum assignment.
- Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Channel modeling, modulation and coding
- Congestion control and scalability issues

CALL FOR PAPERS
PWSN 2011 3rd International Workshop on Performance Control in Wireless
Sensor Networks
http://www.netrl.cs.ucy.ac.cy/pwsn2011/
June 29 2011, Casa Convalescència, Barcelona, Spain
In conjunction with the 7th IEEE International Conference on Distributed
Computing in Sensor Systems (DCOSS '11)
=========================================================================
Wireless sensor networks are currently the subject of intense research
and many prototype installations are currently investigated. However,
most of the existing sensor network installations have in common that
they are not considered time critical. No immediate action has to be
undertaken as a response to the received data. In contrast, many
envisioned future application areas of wireless sensor networks (such as
plant automation and control, traffic management, medical applications,
emergency solutions) require immediate and guaranteed actions. In such
environments, data has to be transported reliably and in time through
the sensor network towards the end user. To make the networking task
more complex, in many applications the end user or the controlling
intelligence is located remotely (e.g., remote monitoring, supervision
and surveillance applications), and the wireless sensor network
interworks with other networks (e.g., fixed infrastructure cellular,
Internet). Due to the lack of appropriate models, components and
protocols, it is currently very difficult to construct and operate a
wireless sensor network with performance guarantees. Thus, the
commercial success of wireless sensor networks in many application areas
is unsure unless this particular problem is understood and solved.
The PWSN workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners
working on performance issues within wireless sensor networks. The
workshop intends to examine research challenges associated with
achieving dependability in WSNs, share experiences from real-life
deployment of dependable sensor networks, discuss application-dependent
wireless sensor-actuator design methodologies, illustrate dependable
MAC, network and transport protocols, and in general, explore issues of
reliability in WSNs.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
--------------------------------------------------
* Architectures: real-time systems, critical network architectures
* Applications: Critical applications, application requirements, novel
applications and real-world deployments
* Models: Traffic models, channel models, mathematical models of network
performance
* MAC protocols: MAC protocols with deterministic behavior, MAC
protocols to balance forwarding performance and energy consumption.
* Routing and topology control: Methods to control network topology,
services for time, location, and power management, topology robustness,
reliability and fault tolerance
* Data transport: Control of data transport delay and reliability,
methods to improve data forwarding performance in sensor networks, data
storage, retrieval, and processing.
* Operating systems: Performance optimization and control of sensor
network operating systems.
* Middleware: Middleware/frameworks providing performance guarantees for
Sensor network applications.
* Security: System security and data integrity methods, Impact of

The IEEE GLOBECOM 2011 - Communications QoS, Reliability, and Modeling
Symposium (CQRM)
Houston, Texas, USA
December 5-9, 2011
Paper Submission Deadline: Extended to March 20, 2011
http://www.ieee-globecom.org/cfp.html
Scope and Motivation
--------------------
Communication networks need to be designed as a reliable information
infrastructure with the quality of service (QoS) capability. To this end,
there have been extensive research activities on a series of related topics
including traffic modeling, resource allocation, network monitoring, and
service management. The particular challenge is that communication networks
based on different technologies need to cooperate with each other for
end-to-end QoS provisioning and support a wide range of multi-media
applications over a huge number of customers. Furthermore, the communication
networks should be capable of supporting user roaming and mobility. Such a
large-scale heterogeneous networking environment incurs fundamental
challenges on traditional theories, analysis, modeling and experiment
methods. The symposium of "Communications QoS, Reliability, and Modeling"
aims at providing an international venue for the discussion of research
advances in communications service provisioning, quality of service
technologies, and analytical and experimental techniques. Authors are
invited to submit original technical papers covering but not limited to the
topics of interest listed below:
Main Topics of Interest
-----------------------
- Quality in Multimedia Networks including Voice over IP and IPTV
- Quality, Scalability and Performance in the Internet
- Quality and Performance in Wireless and Mobile Networks
- Quality, Reliability and Performance in Optical and Multi-layer Networks
- Quality and Performance in Autonomic Systems
- Quality and Performance in Grid, Cloud and Distributed Computing
- Quality and Performance in Overlay (including Peer-to-Peer) Networks
- Quality and Performance for Network and Services

IEEE SECON 2011 Workshop on Green And Sustainable Communication Networks
(GASCoN)
Webpage:
http://www.ieee-secon.com/GASCoN/
This workshop invites papers on a broad range of topics that pertain to
networks that are energy efficient, reusable, long-lived, and that
enable other sustainability initiatives for our planet. It has been
estimated that information and communication technologies (ICT) account
for about 600 billion kWh of electricity usage annually, about 400
million metric tons of CO2 emissions each year. Therefore, there is
great emerging interest in the design of networks which are
energy-efficient, reusable, and yield a lower carbon footprint. There
are many other ways in which communication networks can be deployed to
enable initiatives pertaining to environmental sustainability; for
instance, networks can be deployed to monitor air pollution, or manage

SECON 2011 Workshop on Network Configuration Management (WNCM)
Chairs:
Alva Couch (Tufts University, USA)
Steve Ko (SUNY at Buffalo, USA)
The SECON workshop on Network Configuration Management brings
together academic and industry researchers around the common goal
of creating predictable, reliable, robust, and secure computer networks
and services, in the presence of ongoing changes in requirements,
hardware, and physical infrastructure. While configuration management
is an implicit part of managing any kind of network, it is often left
as an unnamed part of the greater task of "network management," even
though statistically, an overwhelming percentage of operational issues
are due to misconfiguration. In avoiding misconfiguration errors and
the ensuing downtime, there is great utility in managing, manipulating,
and analyzing a holistic network configuration that is the union of the
configurations of its components.
The workshop has two overall missions:
a) To explore the current state of the art of "network configuration
management", including strategies for describing, depicting,
manipulating, verifying, and deploying configurations, along with
approaches to safety, security, change management, safe
reconfiguration, and related topics.
b) To seek synergy with other forms of "configuration management",
including "service configuration management". Effective cloud
computing, e.g., requires careful coordination between service
configuration and network configuration management.
The goals of the workshop include educating the research community on
the current grand challenges of network configuration management,
exposing recent advances in network and service configuration
management, and plotting the future of the field and next research
steps.
Topics of interest to the workshop include:
- all forms of network configuration management, including management
of network devices, security devices (firewalls, VPN, IPSec), and
authentication and authorization servers for network users.
- configuration-based techniques for guaranteeing network consistency,
connectivity, safety, security, reliability, robustness, and
performance expectations.
- languages and protocols for specifying and manipulating network
configurations and network security requirements.
- interfaces between network configuration management and other forms
of configuration management, including system and service
configuration management.
- strategies for federating, delegating, and sharing configuration
management responsibilities.
- strategies for coping with multiple, overlapping configuration
repositories.
- critical analysis of current configuration management standards and
practices.
- safe, secure, reliable, and robust configuration deployment
mechanisms.
- model-based and measurement-driven analysis of network
configurations.
- configuration challenges for new networking paradigms including
programmable network devices (e.g., via OpenFlow).
- misconfiguration detection, avoidance, and remediation.
- approaches to network inventory and auditing, regulatory compliance,
change management, transition planning, and safe reconfiguration.
- dynamic reconfiguration strategies for media delivery.
- domain-specific configuration management strategies, e.g., for cloud
computing, ad-hoc and sensor networks, and ubiquitous computing.
- autonomic and self-* approaches to network configuration, including
intelligent agent, swarm-based, bio-inspired, and convergence
approaches.
The workshop will consist of selected presentations by attendees, as
well as a keynote talk and a panel discussion of the grand challenges
of the field.
Attendance at the workshop is by invitation only. To attend the
workshop, please submit a white paper describing a current problem of
network configuration management and your approach to that problem.
Each white paper is limited to three pages in length, and must include
(i) a brief (1/2 page or less) description about the author's background
and experience in configuration management, and (ii) an important
problem that the author believes that the research community as a
whole should be aware of and/or approaches that show preliminary
promises. All invitees will be asked to submit camera ready versions of
their white papers for publication in the SECON proceedings. Selected
authors of white papers will be invited to present their results at the
workshop.
All white papers should be submitted through EDAS (http://edas.info/)
and follow the formatting guideline for the SECON conference, which
can be found at http://www.ieee-secon.org/submission.html
Paper Deadline: March 31, 2011
Notification date: April 22
Camera-ready date: May 2
