CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications
Broadband Wireless Communications for High Speed Vehicles (BWCHST)
With the development of mobile communication systems such as long term
evolution (LTE), WiMax and International Mobile Telecommunications
(IMT)-Advanced, broadband wireless multimedia services will be
prevalent in the near future. Meanwhile, high speed vehicles such as
airplanes and high speed trains play an increasingly important role in
people’s lives, since they provide a relatively stable and spacious
environment for long distance travel. As a result, there will be a
strong demand for broadband wireless communications (BWC) for high
speed vehicles to provide information and onboard entertainment
services to passengers. BWC is also needed in vehicle control systems
for operational information such as fault sensor measurements and
diagnostics, video surveillance, and so on. Interesting research areas
and various challenges arise when designing BWC systems for high speed
vehicles. For example, a new network structure is needed since a
direct transmission signal between the passenger and
infrastructure-base-station experiences serious deterioration when
traveling through the speeding vehicle. Distributed antenna and radio
over fiber can be employed for vehicle-to-infrastructure
communication. Moreover, due to the lack of accurate channel
information, innovative radio resource allocation schemes are also
needed at the infrastructure-base-station to assign resources to high
speed vehicles. The fast movement of high speed vehicles through
cellular networks causes frequent handovers and drop-offs, degrading
the user experience. This prompts the need for designing fast and
reliable handover and random access schemes. In addition, novel
physical layer techniques of BWC in high speed mobile environments
need to be considered. In particular, there is a strong need to
evaluate the effect of Doppler spread and revisit the noncoherent
coding, modulation and MIMO schemes. Therefore, BWC for high speed
vehicles is a pressing research topic that has huge applications. It
is imperative to develop the key techniques enabling BWC for high
speed vehicles. The goal of this issue is to bring together the most
updated research contributions in this area. We are soliciting high
quality, original and unpublished work in BWC for high speed vehicles,
especially those pushing the envelope in terms of vehicle speed and
communication bandwidth. The topics of interest include, but are not
limited to:
* Novel network architecture
* Satellite communications
* Drive-through Internet
* Distributed antenna systems and radio over fiber for
vehicle-to-infrastructure communications
* High speed vehicle-to-vehicle communication
* BWC for high speed vehicle control systems
* Radio resource allocation to high speed vehicles
* Fast and reliable handover and random access schemes
* Wireless channel modeling and estimation
* Effects of Doppler spread
* Modulation schemes for high speed vehicles
* Antenna array and MIMO
* Prototype and field tests
Prospective authors should prepare their manuscripts following the

We apologize if you receive multiple copies of this CFP.
Special Issue on "Security in Cooperative Vehicular Networks",
Security and Communication Networks (Wiley Online Library, ISSN:
1939-0114, SCIE indexed journal):
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/sec.292/pdf
Recent technologies of wireless cooperative vehicular networks
supporting Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure
(V2I) communications have become a cornerstone of Intelligent
Transport Systems that will bring the promise of improved road safety
and comfortable/infotainment driving environments with IEEE
802.11p.Wireless cooperative vehicular networking is one of the most
interesting and active research topics, which is requiring vital
efforts from both the industry and the academia. In particular,
studies on secure broadcasting and routing for V2V and V2I
communications, authenticating messages and vehicles, authorizing
users to services, and location privacy of users have posed various
challenges. These challenges require to develop applicable
authentication approaches for messages and vehicles and authorization
approaches for users as well as improved anonymous mechanisms for
preventing the exposure of identity and location. Especially, IPv6
enabled V2V and V2I communications are requiring network level
security mechanisms including secure binding between the permanent and
temporary addresses of vehicles key distribution and location privacy
with regard to IPv6 tunnel management, securing end-to-end
communication, authentication in the IPv6 access network, etc.
This special issue is intended to disseminate the latest research
results in emergent security issues, by providing a fresh snapshot of
the current state-of-the-art in wireless cooperative vehicular
networking. Especially, this special issue will not only focus on
security mechanisms for IEEE 802.11p based V2V and V2I communications,
but also address security mechanisms for IPv6 enabled V2V and V2I
communications. Accordingly, this special issue will bring together
the industry and academia working on security issues related to
wireless cooperative vehicular networking and highlight future
directions.
Main Topics of this Special Issue
*Secure Broadcasting for V2V and V2I Communications
*Secure Multi-hop Routing for V2V and V2I Communications
*Secure Geographic Addressing and Routing (GeoNetworking)
*Secure Service Discovery Mechanisms in Cooperative Vehicular Networks
*Trustable Broadcasting and Multi-hop Routing for V2V and V2I
Communications
*Authentication and Authorization for Messages, Vehicles, and Users
*Access Control for Vehicles and Users
*Location Privacy Approach to Cooperative Vehicular Networks
*Identity Management Approach to Cooperative Vehicular Networks

Challenged networks comprise those situations where communication is desired, but traditional internet protocol architectures fail to provide it effectively. Such networks may be characterized by intermittent connectivity, a heterogeneous mix of nodes, nodal churn, and widely varying network conditions. Common examples of challenged networks include high delay environments such as inter-planetary networks, limited power environments such as sensor and wildlife monitoring networks, underwater networks, and communication in settings that lack infrastructure such as rural and remote areas, and military battlefields. Challenged networks may also be found in everyday settings, when access to traditional infrastructure is restricted, expensive, overly complex, or rapidly changing. We solicit papers addressing the following topics: - Delay/disruption-tolerant networks (DTNs) - Architecture, design, implementation, and evaluation of communication systems for challenged networks - Case
studies involving real challenged network solutions in various stages of development or use - Analysis and characterization of challenged networks and protocols - Applications in challenged networks (disaster relief and emergency management, vehicular networks, ...) - Configuration, management, and monitoring of challenged networks - Security/Privacy concerns and solutions in challenged networks - Real-world mobility traces of challenged environments - Test and simulation tools for evaluating challenged network systems - Applications challenged networking techniques to communication in daily life Important dates: --------------------- Abstract Registration: 6 May 2011 Submission Deadline: 13 May 2011 Acceptance notification: 28 June 2011 We look forward to receiving your submission, -- Ahmed Helmy and Franck Legendre Chants'11 TPC Co-Chairs_____________________________________________

CALL FOR PAPERS
The 3rd ACM Workshop on Hot Topics in Planet-scale Measurement
HOT PLANET 2011
Co-located with ACM MobiSys 2011, 28 June 2011, Washington DC USA
http://www.hotplanetconf.net/
=========================================================================
It is well-known that successfully researching, designing and building
new mobile, ad-hoc, mesh and opportunistic networking systems and
algorithms requires access to large-scale data on human mobility,
encounter, and social network patterns. Unfortunately, the wireless and
mobile research communities lack such data, with typical human contact
traces consisting of less than 100 nodes. We believe that large-scale
datasets are important, not only in communication network design, but
also for fundamental study in other academic disciplines, e.g.,
epidemiology, urban planning, and social science. Complex networks
research has flourished since 1989 when the first large Internet (and
later WWW) datasets became available. To achieve similar improvements in
mobile networking and related fields, large-scale, and ideally
planet-scale, datasets must be collected and made available.
Following two successful editions of the workshop at ACM MobiSys 2009
and 2010, the third HotPlanet workshop will not only challenge the
community to collect large-scale human mobility traces but also to
propose novel mobility data processing and knowledge discovery techniques.
Mobility Data Contest sponsored by Google
-----------------------------------------
To make the whole event even more interesting, we will hold a
competition for all the participants of the MobiSys conference and the
associated workshops. The contest is sponsored by Google and you can
find more details about it on the workshop website
(http://www.hotplanetconf.net) under the 'Contest' section. The ceremony
for the winners will take place during the last day of the ACM MobiSys
conference.

Scope and Motivation
The profound advancements of networking technologies in the last three
decades have transformed our everyday lives. These evolutions have
come about as a result of relentless research and development efforts
across all layers of the network hierarchy. Continuing this trend,
many new challenges and opportunities are emerging in the broader area
of next-generation networking. In particular, some of the key focus
areas include network heterogeneity, scalability, virtualization,
services and applications, security, manageability, dependability, and
performance predictability. Moreover, the next-generation wireless
networks are introducing even more niche problems in mobility
management, content distribution, and self-organization.
Along these lines, the planned Next-Generation Networking (NGN)
Symposium at IEEE GLOBECOM 2011 will hope to provide a forum for many
of these exciting new focus areas. This symposium will solicit
participation from both academic and industry researchers working in
the area of next-generation networking technologies, services,
architectures, and protocols. The overall goal is to present a latest
snapshot of the ongoing work as well as to shed further light on
