A key enabler of this pervasive and ubiquitous connectivity environment is the advancement of software technology in various communication sectors, ranging from communication middleware and operating systems to networking protocols and applications. The 2010 edition of MOBILWARE will be the first time to move out of Europe. We plan to further diversify the representation of key organizers and expand the community of industrial and academic researchers fruitfully exchanging novel ideas and operational experiences in the field. MOBILWARE is dedicated to addressing emerging topics and challenges in various mobile wireless software-related areas. The scope of the conference is the design, implementation, deployment, and evaluation of middleware, operating systems, and applications for computing and communications in mobile wireless systems. It aims to provide a high profile, leading edge forum for researchers, engineers, and standards developers to present their latest research activities, techniques, and experiences in the area of software technology for mobile wireless systems. PAPERS: Original and unpublished research achievements in various aspects of middleware/operating systems/applications for mobile computing and networking are solicited. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: * Integration of heterogeneous wired and wireless networks * QoS awareness, adaptation, and fault-tolerance of mobile services * Opportunistic and delay-tolerant mobile and wireless networking * Location-aware and context-aware networking and computing * Energy-efficient applications and services * Mobility and handoff management * Location and tracking supports and services * Mobility-aware service discovery, management, and delivery * Agent technologies for mobile systems and services * Human-computer interface and portable 3D graphics for mobile devices * Novel applications and communication protocols for wireless sensor networks, vehicular networks, and home networks * Modeling, simulation, and performance evaluation of mobile wireless systems and services * Trustworthiness, security, and privacy of mobile and wireless systems WORKSHOPS/TUTORIALS: Proposals for workshops/tutorials are solicited. Potential organizers are requested to submit a proposal of at most 5 pages, including a biographical sketch of each proponent, to the Workshop/Tutorial Chair by February 1, 2010 (form deadline). Proposal evaluation will be based on proponents' expertise and relevance of the subject matter. The program committee will evaluate each paper using metrics that are appropriate for the topic area. For example, a systems or experimental paper in the protocol area will be evaluated based on the innovations in the protocol design, practical implementation, and realistic evaluation, whereas a more theoretical paper may be evaluated mostly based on innovation within the algorithm design. At the same time, the evaluation of wireless and mobile networking technologies is challenging because of the significant impact that the physical environment has on performance. For this reason, all papers must carefully describe and justify the evaluation methodology that is used and identify its strengths and weaknesses. The program committee will referee all papers, and accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings. *_Challenges Papers_* The conference strongly encourages the submission of short papers in the field of mobile computing and wireless networking that present revolutionary new ideas or that challenge existing assumptions prevalent among the research community. These "challenges papers" should provide stimulating ideas or visions that may open up exciting avenues and/or influence the direction of future research. Descriptions of new products or evolution of existing work are not appropriate topics for papers in this category. While an exhaustive evaluation of the proposed ideas is not necessary, insight and in-depth understanding of the issues is expected. [Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this CFP.] ------------------------------------------------------------------- 3rd IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Vehicular Communications (IEEE WiVeC'2010) 16th-17th May 2010, Grand Hotel, Taipei, Taiwan http://www.ieeevtc.org/wivec2010/ Sponsored by the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Wireless vehicular communications has been identified as a key technology for increasing road safety and transport efficiency, and providing Internet access on the move to ensure wireless ubiquitous connectivity. The potential of this technology has been acknowledged with the establishment of ambitious research programs worldwide in Europe, US and Asia. The IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) currently covers through its areas of interest (Mobile Radio, Transportation Systems and Automotive Electronics) all technical aspects needed to make wireless vehicular communications a reality. As a result, the IEEE VTS society decided to establish a technical symposium on wireless vehicular communications co-located with the reputed IEEE VTC conferences. The IEEE International Symposium on Wireless Vehicular Communications (WiVeC) will cover all vehicular wireless communications aspects of Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) and Vehicle-to-Person (V2P) communications, including implications on transport efficiency and safety, implications on automotive electronics, liability issues, standardizations efforts and spectrum assignment. After the successful first and second WiVeC editions in 2007 and 2008, the third IEEE WiVeC symposium will be co-located with the 71th IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference 2010 Spring conference, and will take place at the Grand Hotel in Taipei on the 16th and 17th of May 2010. Combined registrations packages will be offered for WiVeC and VTC events. All accepted papers (full length and demo papers) will be included in the VTC 2010-Spring conference proceedings and will be published on the IEEE Xplore database. Note: VTC Fall editions are traditionally located in North America, while VTC Spring is located in other areas of the world. Since WiVeC was originally launched co-located with VTC Fall editions, the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society decided that WiVeC would take place every year and a half in order to ensure that the conference is alternatively co-located with VTC Fall and Spring editions. This resulted in that there was no WiVeC edition in 2009. Topics of interest ------------------ The WiVec Symposium seeks original papers - not published or currently under review for another workshop, conference, or journal - in the area of vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I), and vehicle-to-person (V2P) wireless communications. Vehicular communication areas of interest include, but are not limited to: * RF technologies, antenna design, physical layer and propagation models. * Radio resource management and interference management. * Spectrum assignment and EMC regulations. * Architecture, networking protocols (including ad-hoc, routing, data dissemination, etc) and their evalutation. * QoS and cross-layer optimization design. * Communications systems and technologies. * Testbeds and simulation platforms. * Interworking with sensor network technologies. * In-car electronics and embedded integration of wireless vehicular communications. * Roadside infrastructure. * Mobility management, mobility and vehicle traffic models. * Digital maps and location technologies. * Decision and control issues. * Human-Machine Interface. * Applications (Ecall, toll collection, traffic information, wireless diagnosis etc.). * Security, liability and privacy. * Standards development, business models, policies (e.g., Cooperative aspects of vehicular communication). * Assessment of impact on transport efficiency and safety. * Scalability issues in metropolitan-wide vehicular networks. Research has been carried out intensely in different aspects of wireless networking, such as the system architecture, protocol designs, and cross-layered optimization designs. Different types of wireless operating platforms may be derived through the integration of heterogeneous networks. Besides, wireless multi-hop mesh networks can be established through interconnecting multiple wireless base-stations. Furthermore, convergence of heterogeneous wireless networks and the next generation Internet may bring wireless Internet to handle a variety of applications including, for example, deliveries of bandwidth demanding high-quality videos and images. Research on fundamental understanding and performance analysis of wireless Internet architectures are always indispensable for the creation of the new Internet. This timely special issue will bring together researchers to present new research findings and analyze different challenging and important areas for enabling our wireless Internet in future. Call For Papers The demand for mobility modeling and performance evaluation has been dramatically increasing in the areas of vehicular, autonomous, and cognitive communications. Especially, mobile protocols and mobility service used in such areas have posed various challenges to the academic and industry. These challenges require effective mobility modeling methods to obtain precise performance evaluation results that allow to design new mobile protocols, mobility service, and robust solutions. Research results in mathematical, simulation, and experience on mobility modeling and performance evaluation studies are welcome. Compared with traditional service systems, ubiquitous multimedia services are often constructed on new architectures, motivated by novel business models, and implemented by interconnected hardware or software.
