Paper submission and publication
---------------------------------------------------------
Authors are invited to submit papers for presentation at the
workshop. Papers (no more than 8 camera-ready pages, 10 pt font in
IEEE transactions format) should present novel perspectives within
the general scope of the workshop. Only original papers that have not
been published or submitted for publication elsewhere can be
submitted. All submission instructions can be found here:
http://www.ieee-lcn-onmove.org/submission.php
Accepted papers will be published in the Proceedings of IEEE LCN and
on IEEE Xplore.
Poster papers are an opportunity to present initial results and
obtain feedback on on-going research. We also welcome submissions for
demonstrations that showcase original research, practical
implementations and realistic applications of user mobility and

First ACM SIGCOMM Workshop on Green Networking
Understanding and reducing the energy consumption of computing and
communication infrastructure in home, enterprise and data center
environments is an area of increasing importance for both researchers
and commercial entities. This is an interdisciplinary field by its very
nature: advances in many areas such as computer architecture, operating
systems and compilers are all needed to reduce the energy consumption.
Many of the proposed ideas have a direct impact on how networks are
designed and provisioned. The power consumption of network
infrastructure has itself come under scrutiny. At the same time, we have
begun to see networking technologies play a significant role in reducing
energy consumption in other domains such as utility networks and
transportation systems.
The First Green Networking workshop at SIGCOMM will focus on networking
issues involved in designing green infrastructures in both computing and
non-computing domains. We welcome papers that utilize networking
technologies and principles to other domains besides traditional
networking areas such as transit, energy that influence our daily life.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Power measurements and data from empirical studies of computer
and communication infrastructure
* Techniques for measuring or estimating power consumption of
computer and communication infrastructure
* Techniques for reducing power consumption in data center,
enterprise and home environments
* Power consumption of networking infrastructure
* Protocol and middleware considerations for reducing power
consumption
* Hardware and architectural support for reducing power consumption
* Green network design for high density data centers and cloud
computing
* Methods that focus on computing and communication systems as
key components for reducing the power footprint in other environments
such as smart grids and smart transportation systems
* Application of networking technologies and principles for
greening services and utilities affecting our daily life
Submissions
All submissions must be original work not under review at any other
workshop, conference, or journal. The workshop will accept papers
describing completed work as well as work-in-progress, so long as the
promise of the approach is demonstrated. Radical ideas, potentially of a
controversial nature, are strongly encouraged. Submissions must be no
greater than 6 pages in length and must be a pdf file. Reviews will be
single-blind: authors name and affiliation should be included in the
submission. Submissions must follow the other formatting guidelines
here<http://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2010/submission.php#formatting>.

Call for Paper
Wiley International Journal of Communication Systems (IJCS)
Special Issue on
"Interdisciplinary and Cross-layer Design of Mobile Social Networks and
Wireless Networks"
Social Networks have attracted billions of active users under major
online social network systems
such as MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, DouBan, etc. Nowadays these social
networks are increasingly
used on mobile devices thus rendering a new research field of mobile
social networks. The marriage
of current wired-network-based social networks with mobile wireless
networks triggers exciting new
research areas. For instance, knowing the network features such as
throughput and delay can help
mobile social networks select a contact (e.g., a job advice centre) to
which the network route has
the best performance. This leads to the so-called wireless-aware social
networks and the problem
domain is within social networks. On the other hand, there is also
social-aware or social inspired
wireless network research where the knowledge of social network users is
exploited for the benefit
of wireless network design. Therefore, a cross-layer design that
incorporates both the upper-layer
mobile social networks and the lower-layer wireless networks is needed.
And this comprises the
thematic essence of this Special Issue.
This cross-layer design method calls for a novel interdisciplinary
research thinking that embraces
not only these disciplines that are closely related to the field such as
computer science, social
science and network/communication engineering but also other subjects
such as biology, physics, etc. The goal of this SI is to solicit the
state-of-the-art approaches and technical solutions that embark on the
above interdisciplinary and cross-layer design methodologies to design
and implement a better-performed mobile social network or wireless
network. The topics of interest include, but limited to, the following:
Group 1: Network-aware Mobile Social Networks
*) Implications, opportunities and challenges of mobile social networks
caused by mobile wireless networks
*) Network-aware modelling, design and development of mobile social networks
*) Network-aware social search, data collection, processing, ranking and
recommendation
*) Network-aware middleware, framework for mobile social networks
*) Network-aware real-world applications, services, systems of mobile
social networks
*) Experimental results or trials of network-aware mobile social networks
*) New aspects of security, privacy and trust in mobile wireless networks
Group 2: Wireless Networks that are aware of social network knowledge
*) Implications, opportunities and challenges of mobile wireless
networks caused by social networks
*) Social-aware modelling of mobile wireless networks, planning,
protocol design and deployment
*) Community based mobility model, handoff management
*) Applying social network theories into wireless network problem solving
*) Optimal and scalable distribution of dynamic content (such as news or
traffic information) over mobile social networks
*) New social-aware/inspired wireless content distribution networks
*) Network security protocols/algorithms design using social data

communication
by keeping all the services available and cost effective is one of the major
challenges in this era. Mobility is something that will be the
requirement of each and every type of network technology in coming few
years.
So mobile communication adds more in the security issues and opens many
doors
for the attacker to attack. Researchers all over the world are developing
solution to close those doors from where attacks can be launched. In short
providing security in computer communication (especially wireless
communication) is one of the major challenges of the current age.
This Special Issue aims to publish high quality, original,

Call for Papers
The First International Workshop on QoS enabled Sensor Networks (QoS2N)
in conjunction with the 11th International Conference on Mobile Data
Management (MDM's 10)
May 23 (temporary date), 2010, Kansas City, USA
http://q2s.ntnu.no/events/qos2n/start
Submission deadline: February 14, 2010
***************************************************************************
Data management in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is challenging,
especially with mobile sensor nodes joining or leaving the network at
will. Recently it has become increasingly popular to utilize sensor
networks for providing various services, e.g., audio/video surveillance,
real-time monitoring, etc. Such WSN functionality demands the Quality of
Service (QoS) guarantees in terms of delay, jitter, loss, or throughput
using intelligent resource reservation schemes, policy-based service
provision, etc. Enabling QoS guarantees in large-scale WSNs, while
utilizing the network resources in the most efficient way, is critical
for the success and life-time of the service-oriented WSNs.
Providing QoS in WSNs involves addressing various technological issues,
e.g., inherent limitations of sensors, varying network loads, network
congestion, multi-path routing, changing channel capacity as a function
of environment, time, and interference from neighbors, mobility and
cross-layer design, etc. In addition, the trade-off between predictable
network behavior and network lifetime, as well as between policy-based
route selection and load distribution need further investigation.
Privacy of sensor information is also a concern since multiple sensors
share/access a common media. QoS2N workshop aims at providing a platform
for discussing the above issues, recent challenges and solutions, and
directions for future research on enabling QoS in WSNs. Researchers,
professionals and application developers from industry and academia are
welcome to exchange ideas, discuss results, and share experience in a
broad range of topics related to QoS and sensor
networking. Both theoretical and practical experience papers are
solicited. Work-in-progress and position papers are welcome.
The topics of interest in the setting of wireless sensor networks
include but are not limited to
• Algorithms and protocol to support QoS in wireless sensor networks
• QoS metrics
• QoS routing
• User perceived quality
• Game theoretical model and communication
• QoS schemes at the data link layer and the network layer
• Cross-layer architecture
• Policy-based routing
• Class adaptation schemes
• Admission control, resource allocation and fairness
• Real-time scheduling and planning
• Power management and energy-efficient design
• Networking protocols and architectures
• Image quality in video-surveillance sensor networks
• Provisioning of QoS (bandwidth and delay) in multimedia sensor systems
• Performance modeling and simulation techniques
• Delay tolerant networks and opportunistic networking
• Data Management of RFID system
• Privacy and security
We solicit original unpublished work written in English that is not
currently under review at another venue. The submitted long papers
should be no more than 6 pages and the short and position papers should
be no more than 3 pages. All papers follow IEEE two-column style format
and are subject to peer review by at least two experts in the same
field. Papers must be saved as PDF files and submitted via
https://cmt.research.microsoft.com/QOSN2010/ . All accepted long papers
as well as all short/position papers will be in the IEEE proceedings. At
least one author of each accepted paper must attend the workshop for
presentation.

Call for Papers for the 1st International Workshop on
Wireless Sensor, Actuator and Robot Networks (WiSARN-2010)
http://www.site.uottawa.ca/~xuli/WiSARN2010/
To be held in conjunction with the
IEEE International Symposium on a World of Wireless, Mobile and
Multimedia Networks (WoWMoM 2010)
June 14-17, 2010, Montreal, Canada.
Wireless sensor and actor networks (WSAN) are the confluence point
where the traditional fields of wireless sensor networks (WSN),
robot networks and control theory meet. In WSAN, nodes collaborate
to accomplish distributed sensing and actuation tasks. Leveraged by
the control and mobility of actors, the networking process and
applications embrace a whole new set of possibilities. Actors may
deploy, repair and relocate sensors to improve coverage, build routes
and fix network partition to ensure data communication, change network
topology to shape routing patterns and balance energy consumption,
and respond to reported events in a timely and effective manner.
The benefits are limited only by imagination. As an emerging field,
WSAN are in need of new networking techniques, by which they can fully
exploit their particularities and potentials. WiSARN aims to bring
together state-of-the-art contributions on the design, specification
and implementation of architectures, algorithms and protocols for
current and future applications of WSAN.
Original, unpublished contributions are solicited in ALL aspects of
WSAN, WSN, robot networks, and robotics and automation. Possible topics
include, but are not limited to:
* Autonomous sensor networks
* Emergent behavior in WSAN
* Modeling and simulation of WSAN
* WSAN architectural and operational models
* Autonomic and self-organizing coordination and communication
* Sensor-actor (robot) and actor-actor coordination
* Energy-efficient and real-time communication protocols
* Bandwidth-efficient and delay-tolerant communication protocols

applications over wireless networks.
Since the first workshop edition in 2006, the proliferation of wireless
access technologies and multimedia applications over IP networks is
leading to a growing interest in the convergence between wireless
networks and multimedia applications. However, the strict requirements
of multimedia applications, the unreliability of wireless media and the
cost of wireless resources make this convergence very challenging.
MediaWiN 2010 offers the opportunity to leading researchers, industry
professionals, and academics around the world to meet, present their
work, and discuss the latest advances about multimedia services over
wireless technology.
All accepted papers will be included in the ISCC 2010 Proceedings, will
be available on IEEE Xplore, and will be professionally indexed by the
IEEE Computer Society's Conference Publishing Service. Topics of
interest include, but are not limited to the following:
* Multimedia delivery over heterogeneous networks
(3G, 4G, ad hoc, multi-hop wireless, peer-to-peer, and hybrid networks)
* Multimedia over Cognitive Radio Networks
* Multimedia delivery for Vehicular Networks
* Error Resilience and Concealment
* Wireless Multimedia Traffic Modeling

Quality of Experience for Multimedia Content Sharing
at EuroITV2010 (www.euroitv2010.org)
Tampere, Finland. 9th June 2010
* Important Dates:
- 1st March 2010: Workshop paper submission
- 19th March 2010: Notification of acceptance
- 5th April 2010: Camera-ready submission
- 9th June 2010: Workshop at EuroITV 2010
Workshop web site: http://dcti.iscte.pt/events/qoemcs/
====================================================
In recent years, it has been realized that the success of multimedia
services or applications not only depends on Quality of Service (QoS)
parameters but also relies on the analysis of the entire user experience
(UX).
The relevance of this paradigm ranges from IPTV or video-on-demand systems
for distributing and sharing professional TV to user-generated content over
the web. To obtain a pleasurable user experience far more aspects than QoS
have to be taken into account. Major challenges in this context include the
identification of relevant UX factors and the quantification of their
influence on Quality of Experience (QoE). In particular, context awareness
and assessment of users expectations play an essential role. This is
further justified by the emergence of new multimedia enhancement techniques,
notably 3DTV and Free Viewpoint.
Future Internet architectures under current research are also promising on
the possibility to accommodate protocols and policies that take QoE issues
into consideration. Consequently, acquired knowledge on the context and on
identified parameters affecting users experience could be used to improve
media delivery.
* Workshop objectives
The objective of this workshop consists in collecting and developing
knowledge on the following three main topics defining the session
structure
of the workshop:
- Context awareness for multimedia applications (video on demand on the
web, content sharing, user-generated & professional content, IPTV,
social
aspects, sensors, energy efficiency)
- Content and context aware quality measurements (user-generated &
professional content, live & on demand)
- Content and context aware interplay between media service/applications
and network strategies. Namely, QoE support in the future internet
architectures.
* Research topics
The central research question consists in determining key elements
(including
content and context information) for QoE assessment and evaluation of
web.sharing.tv.content and to use this information to shape the future
internet.
- Context awareness
- QoE for content sharing over the web and for IPTV
- Subj./Obj. quality evaluation in the context of use, context-aware
solutions
(situation specificity, interactivity, user-generated & professional
content)
- Media Transmission over the Future Internet
- 3D Multimedia and Free ViewPoint
- Interactive multimedia QoE support
* Submission
Workshop papers should not exceed a maximum length of three pages and
follow the ACM Style Guidelines
(http://webhotel2.tut.fi/emmi/euroitv2010/node/37).
Please send your workshop paper to: Shelley.buchinger(a)univie.ac.at
