*SCOPE*
The focus of MOBIMEDIA 2010 is future internet for green and pervasive
media.
The promise of a truly pervasive experience is to have the freedom to
roam around anywhere and not be bound to a single location, however, the
energy required to keep mobile devices connected to the network over
extended periods of time quickly dissipates. In fact, energy is a
critical resource in the design of wireless networks since wireless
devices are usually powered by batteries.
>From the mobile manufacturer’s perspective the energy consumption
problem is critical, not only technically but also taking into account
the market expectations from a newly introduced technology. In fact
there exists a continuously growing gap between the energy consumption
of emerging radio systems and what can be achieved by Battery technology
evolution; Scaling and circuit design progress; System level
architecture progress; and Thermal and cooling techniques. Without new
approaches for energy saving, there is a significant threat that the 4G
mobile users will be searching for power outlets rather than network
access, and becoming once again bound to a single location.
There is added momentum from the European stage for green radio to
globally reduce the electromagnetic radiation levels to have a better
coexistence of wireless system (less interference) as well as a reduced
human exposure to radiation leading to the so called Green Wireless
technologies.
Hence, there is a clear need for disruptive strategies to address all
aspects of power efficiency from the user devices through to the core
infrastructure of the network and how these devices and equipment
interact with each other.
In this framework, Mobimedia will provide an international forum where
industry, researchers and academia will be able to interact and exchange
experiences, ideas, and research results surrounding all aspects on
power saving to envisage a environmentally friendly internet of the future.

PRELIMINARY CALL FOR PAPERS
6th IEEE International Workshop on Networking Issues in Multimedia
Entertainment
(NIME'10)
ICME 2010 - Satellite Workshop
July 19-23, 2010, Singapore
Sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society
website - http://www.math.unipd.it/~cpalazzi/NIME10/
THEME AND SCOPE
The growing availability of digital contents and the simultaneous cost
reductions in storage, processing, and networking is driving the growth
of the
entertainment technology. While in the past entertainment technology
traditionally offered predominantly passive experiences, continual
advances in
network and computer technologies are providing tools for implementing
greater
interactivity and for enabling consumers to enjoy more exciting experiences,
such as, for example, interactive digital TV, interactive theatre and
orchestrated music and sound design. This phenomenon is pulling together an
extremely diverse group of experts specializing in different technical
areas,
such as networking, computer graphics, artificial intelligence, games,
animation, multimedia design, human-computer interaction, educational
media and
software engineering. Even though high-tech entertainment promotes
interdisciplinary fusion, yet only the ubiquity of wireless/wired
communication
is considered suitable for accepting the challenge of building a large
interactive environment for the delivery of the maximum entertainment
value to
millions of consumers worldwide. In this respect, there is a great hope that
the wired and wireless may take over this complex scenario for
fulfilling the
consumer expectations. The Sixth IEEE International Workshop on Networking
Issues in Multimedia Entertainment provides an open forum for researchers,
engineers and academia to exchange the latest technical information and
research findings on next-generation networked multimedia concepts,
technologies, systems, and applications for entertainment covering existing
deployments, current developments and future evolution. Authors are

A smart digital home refers to a living space with devices that are
connected through wired or wireless networks. The connected devices may be
sensors, actors, consumer electronics, appliances, mobile and PC devices
that cooperate transparently for facilitating living and improving usability
in the home. Sensors can capture the and/or detect physical phenomena, like
temperature, humidity, illumination, etc., of living environments and notify
other devices of the phenomena; actors and other devices can then act
according to the phenomena to provide context aware services.
Home care of the old, the young, the sick and the disabled can benefit from
smart digital home technologies, by which carers are able to acquire the
states of the home and the residents anytime, anywhere and to take proper
actions immediately. By the technologies, proper actions can also be
triggered automatically in the presence of specific events, such as resident
falling, and stove catching fire, etc.
Smart digital home technologies enable working from home, remote education,
network shopping, online gaming, etc. High speed broadband network access
and all-IP technologies enabled by frameworks of IMS (IP Multimedia
Subsystem), SDP (Service Delivery Platforms), DLNA (Digital Living Network
Alliance), and so on, offer new communication capabilities. We can foresee
that innovative smart digital home applications benefiting from high network
capabilities will be blooming in the near future. Since a variety of devices
presents in a smart digital home, convergent (across all the screens of TVs,
PCs, appliances and mobile devices) and personalized user experience is
evidently the key for the success of new residential applications.
*Subject Coverage*
The goal of this special issue is to bring together the researchers from
academia and industry as well as practitioners to share ideas, problems and

The Fourth IEEE International Workshop on Wireless Mesh and Ad Hoc
Networks (WiMAN 2010)
http://people.hofstra.edu/Habib_M_Ammari/WiMAN_Workshop2010.html
In
conjunction with ICCCN 2010
Zurich,
Switzerland, August 2-5, 2010
CALL
FOR PAPERS
Workshop Objectives
Recently, wireless mesh and ad hoc networking is attracting significant
interest from academia, industry, and standard organizations. With
several favorable characteristics, such as dynamic self-organization,
self-configuration, self-healing, easy maintenance, high scalability and
reliable services, wireless mesh networks have been advocated as a
cost-effective approach to support high-speed last mile connectivity and
ubiquitous broadband access in the context of home networking,
enterprise networking, or community networking. Despite recent advances,
and the technical accumulations from more than a decade of research
efforts in mobile ad hoc networks, many research issues remain in all
protocol layers of wireless mesh networks. For example, the introduction
of mixed (infrastructure and ad hoc) architecture, multi-radio,
multi-channel, and multi-antenna, have brought new challenges in the
design of physical, MAC, and routing protocols. New application
scenarios, such as all-wireless office, are urging researchers to
address enhanced QoS support and various security issues in the design
of different protocol layers for wireless mesh networks.
This workshop aims to bring together the technologies and researchers
who share interest in the area of wireless mesh and ad hoc networks. Its
main purpose is to promote discussions of research and relevant
activities in the design of architectures, protocols, algorithms,
services, and applications for wireless mesh and ad hoc networks. Also,
this workshop aims at increasing the synergy between academic and
industry professionals working in this area. We seek papers that address
theoretical, experimental, and work in-progress at the all layers of
wireless mesh and ad hoc networks, from application layer to the
physical layer.
Topics covered in this workshop will include, but will not be limited
to, the following:
• Multi-radio and multi-channel wireless mesh networking
• Wireless LAN, PAN, MAN and WAN
• Multi-hop wireless communications and ad hoc networking
• MAC protocols (IEEE 802.11, 802.15, 802.16, 802.20, and beyond)
• Routing, scheduling, and channel assignment protocols
• Implications of smart antennas on MAC and routing protocols
• Quality of Services provisioning
• Multimedia communications over mesh and ad hoc networks
• Network deployment, localization, and synchronization
• Topology construction and maintenance
• Methods and tools for mesh and ad hoc networks simulation
• Modeling and performance evaluations
• Physical layer techniques
• Cross layer optimizations
• Power-aware and energy-efficient protocols and algorithms
• Self-organization, self-configuration network architectures
• Intelligent system techniques for mesh and ad hoc networks
• Security-related issues in mesh and ad hoc networks
• Novel applications of mesh and ad hoc networks
• Wireless sensor networks and RFID
• Test beds, prototypes, and practical systems
Submission Guidelines
Authors are invited to submit manuscripts reporting original unpublished
research and recent developments in the topics related to the workshop.

EUMOBILE 2010
1st European Symposium on Mobility Management Systems
in conjunction with MobiLight 2010
May 10-12, 2010: Barcelona, Spain
Web: www.Mobilight.org
********************************************************************
Scope:
One of the key characteristics of the Future Internet is the synergy and
interworking of existing and new wireless communication environments that
will exhibit ubiquity and multi-access capabilities. The integration of
heterogeneous networks is revolutionizing the ICT area, introducing new
opportunities, better communication channels and an enhanced quality of
provided applications and services. In this environment, a user is able to
connect to a number of heterogeneous RATs (Radio Access Technologies),
either covering the same, or complementing geographical areas. These
networks can be macro-cellular, WLANs, femto-cellular or even ad-hoc. In
this environment, seamless mobility is coupled according to user
preferences, enabling mobile users to be "Always Best Connected" (ABC) so
that Quality of Experience is optimised and maintained. Furthermore,
communication security is required at both communication and service layer.
One of the goals of the workshop is to exchange of ideas and interaction
among the different European Projects on the topic in question, with a
special focus on FP7 projects related to mobility management systems.
European technology platforms are also invited to present their views in the
area. EUMOBILE 2010 will give researchers the opportunity to present their
latest results on this topic. Researchers active in FP7 research projects as
well as other leading international researchers are invited to participate
and share their latest findings. The workshop intends to collect results
from that work in this area as well.
