Dear Colleague,
The 2010 IEEE International Symposium on Network Coding (NetCod 2010),
technically sponsored by the IEEE Information Theory Society, will be
held in Toronto, Canada, June 9 - 11, 2010.
NetCod 2010 aims to provide a forum for an in-depth coverage of
research developments in the area of network coding. NetCod 2010 will
continue the tradition established by the International Workshop on
Network Coding since 2005, and focus on emerging topics, controversial
ideas, and future research directions in the area of network coding
research. Research results from both theoretical and practical
aspects of network coding are encouraged.
We would like to invite you to find out more details about NetCod
2010, including the Call for Papers, by visiting its web site:
http://www.networkcoding.org
The submission deadline of NetCod 2010 is January 4, 2010. The paper
submission system is now ready to receive your submissions.
Thank you,
NetCod 2010 Organizing Committee

Wiley International Journal of Communication Systems (IJCS)
Special Issue on
"Interdisciplinary and Cross-layer Design of Mobile Social Networks and
Wireless Networks"
Social Networks have attracted billions of active users under major
online social network systems
such as MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, DouBan, etc. Nowadays these social
networks are increasingly
used on mobile devices thus rendering a new research field of mobile
social networks. The marriage
of current wired-network-based social networks with mobile wireless
networks triggers exciting new
research areas. For instance, knowing the network features such as
throughput and delay can help
mobile social networks select a contact (e.g., a job advice centre) to
which the network route has
the best performance. This leads to the so-called wireless-aware social
networks and the problem
domain is within social networks. On the other hand, there is also
social-aware or social inspired
wireless network research where the knowledge of social network users is
exploited for the benefit
of wireless network design. Therefore, a cross-layer design that
incorporates both the upper-layer
mobile social networks and the lower-layer wireless networks is needed.
And this comprises the
thematic essence of this Special Issue.
This cross-layer design method calls for a novel interdisciplinary
research thinking that embraces
not only these disciplines that are closely related to the field such as
computer science, social
science and network/communication engineering but also other subjects
such as biology, physics, etc. The goal of this SI is to solicit the
state-of-the-art approaches and technical solutions that embark on the
above interdisciplinary and cross-layer design methodologies to design
and implement a better-performed mobile social network or wireless
network. The topics of interest include, but limited to, the following:
Group 1: Network-aware Mobile Social Networks
*) Implications, opportunities and challenges of mobile social networks
caused by mobile wireless networks
*) Network-aware modelling, design and development of mobile social networks
*) Network-aware social search, data collection, processing, ranking and
recommendation
*) Network-aware middleware, framework for mobile social networks
*) Network-aware real-world applications, services, systems of mobile
social networks
*) Experimental results or trials of network-aware mobile social networks
*) New aspects of security, privacy and trust in mobile wireless networks
Group 2: Wireless Networks that are aware of social network knowledge
*) Implications, opportunities and challenges of mobile wireless
networks caused by social networks
*) Social-aware modelling of mobile wireless networks, planning,
protocol design and deployment
*) Community based mobility model, handoff management
*) Applying social network theories into wireless network problem solving
*) Optimal and scalable distribution of dynamic content (such as news or
traffic information) over mobile social networks
*) New social-aware/inspired wireless content distribution networks
*) Network security protocols/algorithms design using social data

November 29 - December 1, 2010
at Royal Park Hotel, Tokyo (Japan)
Organized by Auto-ID Laboratories
at Keio University,
ETH Zurich & University of St. Gallen and MIT
http://www.iot2010.org/
The "Internet of Things (IoT)" disrupts with the today's Internet
limitations of human-entered data: technologies like RFID, short-range

empower computers to perceive the world for themselves. Standardized
infrastructures capable of managing, sharing and processing this
captured data will be necessary in order to bring the Internet of Things
into commercial use. This interlinking of physical world and cyberspace
foreshadows an exciting endeavor that is highly relevant to
researchers, corporations, and individuals.
This conference will continue the success of the Internet of Things
conference from 2008 in Zurich. It to brings internationally leading
researcher and practitioners from both academia and industry together to
facilitate sharing of applications, research results, and knowledge. The
IoT2010 particularly encourages research on infrastructure and
applications facilitating environmental responsibility under the theme
"IoT for a Green Planet". The three-day event will feature keynotes from
industry and academic visionaries, technical presentations of
cutting-edge research, reports on the user-experience from seasoned
practitioners, panel discussions on hot topics, poster sessions
summarizing late-breaking results, and hands-on demos of current technology.
Topics of Interest
------------------

AIMS AND SCOPE
Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) has been growing rapidly in
importance in the past few years. Even despite the global economic
downturn that has hit the car industry hard, research continues in this
area, as new technical challenges have evolved that demand research and
development. Industry players like the automobile companies, and
government agencies, like the US Department of Transportation, are
investing heavily in research and development in VII. Technologies and
applications for VII are rapidly emerging, and there is an critical need
to bring together researchers & engineers, academia and industry,

VEE 2010
Title: International Conference on Virtual Execution Environments (VEE'10)
Submission Deadline: 2010-11-09

Synopsis:
Virtualization, broadly speaking, is a recognition of the adage that any
problem in computer science can be solved through the introduction of an
additional layer of indirection. The technique is applied to modern
systems at many interfaces, including hardware, OS system calls, and
language runtimes. While these approaches differ in implementation, they
provide similar benefits and must tackle related challenges. VEE'10
brings together researchers across the many applications of
virtualization in today's systems. We invite original papers on topics
relating to virtualization -- especially those that will have broad
appeal across these approaches.
