The last few years have experienced a steep growth in research on wireless networks having attractive claims. Researchers are currently envisioning different attractive properties of wireless systems such as the ability to self-organize, self-configure, self-heal, self-manage and self-maintain. Different wireless networks having the potential to offer cost-effective home and enterprise access networking solutions are being researched. Technologies such as Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs), WiFi, WiMax, Bluetooth, 802.20, 802.22 and software defined radio are gaining popularity. Even though these technologies hold great promises for our future, there are several research challenges that need to be addressed. Some of these research challenges are attributed to the simulation, modeling and characterization of these emerging wireless networks. The attractive properties of these new network technologies make simulation and modeling particularly challenging, where the existing tools and approaches are marginally useful. Call for papers: IEEE SUTC 2010 The Third IEEE Intl. Conf. on Sensor Networks, Ubiquitous, and Trustworthy Computing June 7-9, 2010 Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Newport Beach, California, USA http://sutc2010.eecs.uci.edu The availability of small, low-cost, and low-power sensors, radios, and microcontrollers has triggered a huge wave of research in networked embedded sensing systems. As a result, different research communities have emerged that work on related aspects, but have slightly different foci. A focus of the sensor network community is on energy-efficient systems and networking solutions. While these aspects are also fundamental for ubiquitous computing, a focus of the latter community is on user interaction. The currently emerging cyber-physical systems community emphasizes the integration of actuation and control. Despite these differences, the realization of the above visions involves a common fundamental challenge: The need for trustworthy computing solutions to deliver secure, private, and reliable computing and communication services. The aim of the IEEE International Conference on Sensor Networks, Ubiquitous, and Trustworthy Computing (SUTC 2010) is to bring together the above communities to exchange latest results, to join efforts in solving the common challenges, but also to contrast the developments in the different communities. To support this goal, the conference will feature several (serial) tracks devoted to sensor networks, ubiquitous computing, and cyber-physical systems, as well as tracks devoted to common themes such as pervasive services and data management, embedded networking, and trustworthy computing. ================================================================== IEEE Network Magazine Special Issue on "Future Internet: New Applications and Emerging Services" (http://www.comsoc.org/livepubs/ni/info/cfp/cfpnetwork0710.html) ================================================================== Background The Internet has been successfully deployed for several decades due to its high flexibility in running over different physical mediums and supporting different high layer protocols and applications including traditional file transfer, e-mail, and client-server based web applications. Meanwhile, we have witnessed the unprecedented development and growth of new applications and services in recent years ranging from peer-to-peer (P2P) based applications, image and video applications, location-based services, secured transactions, online hosting services, machine-to-machine (M2M) interactions, and cloud computing. These new applications and emerging services have, in different degree, demanded better than the current best-effort quality of service. The future Internet is expected to be more agile, scalable, secure and reliable, which has been considered and pursued in research projects such as NSF FIND (Future Internet Design) and GENI (Global Environment for Network Innovations) programs in the United States, and EIFFEL (Evolved Internet Future for European Leadership) and FIREworks (Future Internet Research and Experimentation - Strategy Works) projects in Europe. Such ever-emerging applications with different requirements and implications for the future Internet design pose a significantly new set of problems and challenges, which are not well understood, specifically : 1) how can they be efficiently provisioned in the future Internet? 2) how can the future Internet be evolved and/or re-designed possible with radical changes to cater for new applications and services? The goal of this special issue is to feature recent and emerging Internet applications and services, their performance, impact, demands and implications for future Internet design. Scope Papers should contain substantial tutorial content and be accessible to a general audience of researchers and practitioners. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: *Peer-to-peer applications including file transfer, live video streaming and VoD *Utility computing, cloud computing, cloud storage networks *Online hosting services *E-commerce, secured transactions *Mobile services, location-based services *New service provisioning, quality of service issues *Impact on backbone and ISP design. Call For Papers The demand for mobility modeling and performance evaluation has been dramatically increasing in the areas of vehicular, autonomous, and cognitive communications. Especially, mobile protocols and mobility service used in such areas have posed various challenges to the academic and industry. These challenges require effective mobility modeling methods to obtain precise performance evaluation results that allow to design new mobile protocols, mobility service, and robust solutions. Research results in mathematical, simulation, and experience on mobility modeling and performance evaluation studies are welcome. The purpose of MoMoPE is to bring together the academic and industry working on different aspects related to mobile computing in efforts to highlight the state-of-art research on mobility modeling and performance, exchange ideas, and explore new research directions. Mobility modeling and performance evaluation studies in the following topics are welcome (but are not limited to): * Performance modeling of sensor mobility in wireless/mobile networks * Performance modeling of human mobility in wireless/mobile networks * Performance modeling of vehicular mobility in wireless/mobile networks * Performance modeling of mobility protocols used in wireless/mobile networks * Performance modeling of location management and handover used in wireless/mobile networks * Performance modeling of bandwidth allocation and resource scheduler used in wireless/mobile networks * Performance modeling of security protocol and access control management used in wireless/mobile networks Important Dates * Submission Deadline: 15 December 2009 * Author Notification: 15 March 2010 * Camera Ready Submission Due: 1 April 2010 * Author Registration Due: 1 April 2010 Submission Information Prospective authors are invited to submit original technical papers electronically through EDAS.info (http://edas.info/8231). The maximum page length is not more than six (6) IEEE style pages including results, figures and references. IEEE style formats can be found at www.ieee.org/pubs/authors.html. Accepted and presented papers at the workshop will be included in ACM/IEEE Digital Library (pending approval).
