CALL FOR PAPERS
***********************************************************************
The First ACM International Workshop on Integrated Heterogeneous Sensor
Networks (HeterSenet 2008)
Hong Kong, China, May 30, 2008, co-located with ACM MobiHoc
http://anyserver.cityu.edu.hk/HeterSenet/hetersenet.htm
***********************************************************************
Recent years have witnessed an increasing trend of integration of sensor
networks with existing infrastructure networks like wired networks and
wireless local/wide-area networks. Such integration provides several key
technical advantages including significant improvement of sensor
networks' capacity/coverage, ubiquitous access of physical information
and involvement of people (e.g., mobile phone users) in the process of
information gathering and sharing. As a result, a range of new context
and location-aware pervasive computing applications will be enabled.
The workshop seeks to provide a forum for the presentation of research
results on the integration of sensor networks with existing
infrastructure networks like wired networks, and wireless
local/wide-area networks. A heterogeneous network environment is
typically composed of terminals with different capacities such as
sensors, actuators, mobile devices (PDAs and mobile phones), and
Internet hosts. Seamlessly integration of these terminals requires
innovative network architectures, data services, and communication
protocols. In urban environments, mobile phones can be used as sensors
to collect image, audio, video and location information. New business
models and incentives should be sought to allow mobile phone users to
participate in the creation and provision of sensor based services.
The workshop will cover data link, network and transport layers, as well
as application, data services and middleware, security, power management
issues in integrated heterogeneous networks, including sensors and
actuators, local area, vehicular, personal, and wide-area networks.
Possible topics of interests include, but are not limited to:
- integration of sensor networks with the future Internet architecture
- network support for creation and deployment of sensor based services
- interconnection between sensor networks and 3G networks
- multimedia (audio/video) sensor networks
- delay-tolerant sensor networks
- sensor database systems and operating systems
- addressing, position determination, service and location discovery
- sensor area coverage, data-centric operations
- data communication, routing and broadcasting protocols
- traffic engineering and multimedia, Quality of Service (QoS)
- resource management and scheduling
- application of RFID in sensor networks
- security for integrated and heterogeneous sensor network systems
- performance evaluation, testbeds, modeling and simulation.

1st Workshop on Urban Networks and Applications (UNA ’08)
Lakeshore Hotel, Hsinchu, Taiwan, August 4-6, 2008
http://una.cs.ucc.ie
held in conjunction with the
13th IEEE Asia-Pacific Computer Systems Architecture Conference
http://www.ccrc.nthu.edu.tw/acsac2008
Urban settings are host of diverse networking technologies, from
cellular and wired broadband to WiMAX, WiFi, Bluetooth and, more
recently, mesh and sensor networks. While this rich environment
offers opportunities for connectivity, inter-operability and
sharing of services and resources, the co-existence of these
heterogeneous technologies, competing for the same resources and
offering similar services, poses difficult engineering and legal
problems. For example, network planning is a major issue that
can determine the effective use of each network and, when
possible, inter-operability of the networks. Cities
administrations are keen to deploy and take advantage of public
service networks, whereas citizens are interested to use public
or private services at home, at work or while driving or walking.
Private initiatives may selectively focus on certain niche
services. Overall, urban networks can increase the quality of
life in cities and can make the distinction among cities. In
achieving this goal, many technical challenges have to be tackled.
This workshop will be a forum for discussion of new and
interdisciplinary ideas on new architectures, paradigms, concepts,
service models and novel applications for urban networks.
The topics for submission include but are not limited to:
cognitive radio technologies
congestion control
micro- and pico-cell control architecture
hybrid cell configuration
sensor networks in urban settings
personal area networks
vehicular networks
mesh networks
mobile ad hoc networks
networks planning
networks inter-operability
data mining of a large volume of data in urban networks
database support for urban networks
network and service discovery
mobility supporting services
context awareness
mobile middleware
ubiquitous and urban computing
urban network systems and applications
locative media and applications
access, security and privacy in urban networks
Submissions
Both research and industry papers are solicited. Submitted papers
should be original, unpublished work and not currently under review
for any other conference or journal. Papers reporting work in
progress are welcome. Questions about the submission process
should be directed to the workshop chair.
All submitted papers will be rigorously reviewed by members of the
international program committee. Accepted papers will appear in the
Proceedings of ACSAC 2008, which is to be published by the
IEEE Computer Society Press.
Papers are limited to 8 pages including figures and references and
they must follow the IEEE 8.5"x11" two-column format guidelines
described at http://www.computer.org/portal/pages/cscps/cps/cps_forms.html
Papers should be submitted electronically in PDF format through
https://www.softconf.com/starts/acsac2008/submit.html
The publication of a paper requires at least one of the authors to
register and be present at the conference.
Papers not following these guidelines will be rejected.

The 8th International Conference on
Next Generation Teletraffic and Wired/Wireless Advanced Networking
NEW2AN 2008
http://www.new2an.org/
CALL FOR PAPERS
About the Conference
Next-generation mobile networks will evolve out of existing wired and
wireless networks of different nature by means of convergence, fusion
and mutual penetration; next-generation multimedia services in turn pose
new requirements and challenges on treatment of traffic within
communication systems – a certain degree of multilayer co-operation has
to be achieved. This forms a framework on harmonization of results
obtained separately in different areas of network research like network
performance evaluation, architecture and protocol design, and low layer
network design. The conference goal is in the identification,
investigation and integration of new algorithms, approaches,
architectures, methods and mechanisms to enable proper and efficient
operation of a next-generation IP-based wireless network. Special
emphasis will be given to next-generation traffic issues, it indeed
remains true that much uncertainty surrounds the future traffic features
and volumes, mainly because of converged type of traffic resulted from
converged network operation under converged services and applications.
Moreover, wireless access networks and their interaction shall be widely
examined and addressed throughout the conference.
The history of NEW2AN dates back to 1993, today it is an established
conference featured by proceedings published by Springer LNCS and
distinguished invited speakers.
The NEW2AN and ruSMART will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia - the
meeting point of East and West. Through its stunning architecture and
wonderful art galleries and museums, among a number of other
attractions, the wealth of history of East and West can be seen and felt
in this beautiful city.
