CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE WoWMoM 2008 is soliciting original and previously
unpublished papers addressing research challenges and
advances towards a world of wireless, mobile, and
multimedia pervasive communications. The emergence of
wireless network standards and their future evolutions
offer exciting new opportunities for delivering rich
multimedia content over wireless networks. Users will
be able to seamlessly and ubiquitously accomplish
their tasks such as accessing and retrieving
information, communicating with other users or
devices, exploiting advanced context-dependent
services, and so on.
Papers that present original work, validated by
experimentation, simulation, or analysis, are
solicited. Practical experiences and experimental
efforts from both industry and academy, duly
documenting the lessons learned from test-beds,
field-trial, or real deployments, are also welcome.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- System prototypes and experiences
- QoS for voice and video in wireless/mobile
networks
- Middleware support for QoS provision
- Networking services for pervasive systems
- Context-aware wireless multimedia applications
- Location mechanism and services
- Content management and distribution
- IP-based wireless/mobile multimedia services
- IP-based wireless/mobile networks
- Multicasting and broadcasting issues
- Energy-efficient protocols and power management
- Handoff and mobility management
- Seamless internetworking and self-organization
- Network management and control
- Wireless BAN, PAN, LAN, MAN, WAN, and RAN
- Ad-hoc and mesh networks
- Vehicular networks
- Wireless Sensor Networks
- Opportunistic Networking
- Security, privacy and dependability
- Pricing and accounting
- Modeling and performance evaluation

PAPER SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION
-----------------------------------
Papers should contain original material and not be
previously published, or currently submitted for
consideration elsewhere. Guidelines on paper
submission and formatting will be provided on the
website. All submitted papers will undergo a rigorous
review process managed by the technical program
committee. Accepted papers will appear in the
symposium proceedings published by the IEEE Computer
Society.
-----------------------------------
WORKSHOPS
-----------------------------------
The IEEE WoWMoM 2008 technical program will also
include one-day workshops on hot topics on wireless,
mobile and multimedia networks.
Workshop proposals should be submitted to the
Workshops Chair Roger Zimmerman

CALL FOR PAPERS
BIONETICS 2007
2nd International Conference on
Bio inspired Models of Network, Information and Computing Systems
http://www.bionetics.org/
Budapest, Hungary, December 10-12, 2007
Technically co-sponsored by IEEE COMSOC, IEEE CIS, and IEEE SMC
In co-operation with ACM SIGCAS
Jointly sponsored by CREATE-NET, ICST
*** Submission deadline (extended): August 15, 2007 ***
*****************************************************************
Technology is taking us to a world where myriads of heavily
networked devices interact with the physical world in multiple
ways, and at multiple scales, from the global Internet down to
micro and nano devices. Many of these devices are highly mobile
and autonomous, and must adapt to the surrounding environment in
a totally unsupervised way.
A fundamental research challenge is the design of robust
decentralized computing systems that are capable of operating
under changing environments and noisy input, and yet exhibit the
desired behavior and response time, under constraints such as
energy consumption, size, and processing power. These systems
should be able to adapt and learn how to react to unforeseen
scenarios as well as to display properties comparable to social entities.
The turn to nature has brought us many unforeseen great concepts.
Biological systems are able to handle many of these challenges with
an elegance and efficiency still far beyond current human artifacts.
Based on this observation, bio-inspired approaches have been proposed
in the past years as a strategy to handle the complexity of such systems.
The goal is to obtain methods on how to engineer technical systems,
which have similar high stability and efficiency often found in biological
entities.
The BIONETICS conference aims at bringing together researchers and
scientists from several disciplines in computer science and engineering
where bio-inspired methods are investigated. We are soliciting high-quality
original papers focusing on (but not limited to) the following topics:
a) Bio-inspired mathematical models, methods and tools:

- Qualitative assessment of evolutionary algorithms
- Multiscale dynamics of emergent properties
- Artificial immune and self-healing systems
- Cellular signaling pathways
b) Bio-inspired technical systems:
- Engineering methods and tools for bio-inspired systems
- Bio-inspired service evolution and optimization
- Pandemic service deployment strategies
c) Bio-inspired information and communication systems (ICT):
- Network algorithms and protocols
- Autonomic communication systems
- Evolution of network architectures and protocols
- Adaptive and self-healing network architectures
- Self-organizing network paradigms
- In-network processing and autonomic networking
- Adaptive sensor and actor networks
- Topology control and network organization
- Localization and synchronization
- Mobility models
- Multi-agent systems and robotics
- Novel applications and services
- Self-learning defense strategies

Betreff: [Tccc] CFP: International Workshop on Opportunistic Networking
(WON)
Datum: Mon, 06 Aug 2007 23:43:56 +0800
Von: Ling-Jyh Chen <cclljj(a)iis.sinica.edu.tw>

We apologize in advance if you receive multiple copies of this CFP.
==================================================================
Call for Papers
The First IEEE International Workshop on Opportunistic Networking (WON-08)
to be held in conjunction with The IEEE 22th International Conference
on Advanced Information Networking and Applications (AINA-08),
GinoWan, Okinawa, Japan, Mar 25-28, 2008
http://nrl.iis.sinica.edu.tw/WON08/
==================================================================
Aims and Scope
---------------
With the explosive deployment of mobile wireless devices recently,
Opportunistic Networking is becoming an increasingly popular area in
networking research, in which the assumption of having end-to-end
paths between the source and the destination is relaxed. Such networks
fall into the fields of mobile ad-hoc networking (MANET) and
delay-tolerant networking (DTN).Opportunistic Networks enable user
communication in an environment where disconnection and reconnection
are common and link performance is extremely dynamic. They are very
suitable to support the situation where network infrastructure has
limited coverage and users have "islands of connectivity". By taking
advantage of device mobility, information can be stored and forwarded
over a wireless link when connection 'opportunities' arise (e.g. an
appropriate network contact is met). In this view, traditional
Internet connectivity can be considered as a special case of
connection opportunity. With numerous emerging applications,
Opportunistic Networks allow a huge number of devices to communicate
end-to-end without requiring any pre-existing infrastructure and are
very suitable to support pervasive networking scenarios.
Topics of Interest
-----------------
Original papers addressing applications and architecture, systems
and protocols design, development and analysis, in all areas related
to Opportunistic Networking are solicited. Papers that bring out
interesting and novel ideas at an early stage are favored over

are not limited to:
* Advanced technologies for enabling opportunistic communication
* Architectures for opportunistic networks
* Applications for opportunistic networks
* Biological and social models for opportunistic communication
* Middleware services in opportunistic networks
* Dissemination and replication techniques for opportunistic networks
* Network and resource management techniques for opportunistic networks
* Trust and cooperation in opportunistic networks
* Security issues in opportunistic networks
* Transport and reliability issues in opportunistic networks
* Routing issues in opportunistic networks
* MAC layer issues and physical layer for opportunistic networks
* Simulation and modeling of Opportunistic networks
* Tools and techniques for designing, analyzing and building

AmI-07 Workshop: Ambient Assisted Living, Darmstadt, Germany, 10
November 2007, part of the European Conference on Ambient Intelligence
http://www.ami-07.org/documents/AmI07-AAL.pdf
Most industrialized countries face severe demographical and social
changes: the average lifespan rises, more and younger people suffer from
chronic diseases, the number of single-households with elderly or
handicapped people increases, etc. As a result our society invested a
growing share of its GNP into people in need of care, while at the same
time the quality of this care does not rise and often even drops.
Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) is a promising approach to overcome these
problems. AAL provides equipment and automated services that enable
senior citizens to live longer independently and self-determined in
their own homes. This reduces the need for special medical care and
nursing services; and it improves the quality of these services, often
at lower cost for the society.
Central to each AAL solution is a sound awareness of the elders'
situation and their actual need for assistance and an adequate presence
of the solutions. In particular, Ambient Assisted Living provides
- automated support to carry out daily activities
- health and activity monitoring
- enhanced safety and security
- access to social, medical, and emergency systems
- promotion of social contacts
- context-based infotainment and entertainment.
This workshop will bring together experts from academia and industry to
identify and discuss specific demands, approaches, and solutions with
regard to awareness and presence in the AAL domain. Therefore, we
solicit workshop submissions that present novel approaches and
technologies in ambient intelligence, describe new applications of
existing such technologies in AAL, or that propose future challenges for
research in that application domain.
The workshop will consist of the presentations of the peer-reviewed
papers and a panel discussion session that shall stimulate future
research in AAL with respect to practical needs for AAL. Papers will
thus be selected not only on their technical quality but also based on
their potential to stimulate this discussion.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Assistance demands of elders in general
- Reports on AAL field studies and their outcomes
- Specific demands of elders regarding awareness and presence
- Sensors to monitor location, behaviour, and physical state of humans
- Modelling human behaviour and identifying behavioural patterns
- Impact of monitoring technologies on the individual life
- Identification of health risks using various sensor data
- Models used to interpret and process the collected data of an individual
- Design criteria for human-machine interfaces and communication devices
for seniors
- Human-machine interfaces which adapt dynamically to the capabilities
of humans
- Dynamically adaptable and adaptive system architectures and platforms
for AAL services
- Technology acceptance of assistance devices
Submission
Papers can be submitted of at most 10 pages in Springer LNCS format (as
for the AmI'07 conference). Proceedings will be available at the
workshop. The intention is to realize publication of extended
postproceedings as a book on the workshop theme by a recognized
publisher after the workshop.

CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE Communications Magazine – June 2008

Feature Topic
------------------
Multi-Domain Optical Networks: Issues and Challenges
----------------
Background
----------------
The continuing maturation and declining costs of optical technologies has resulted in current and future optical networks having several optical domains with different granularities; each domain controlled by an independent and autonomous service provider. Now consider the emerging applications, which require high-bandwidth and interconnection with multiple applications across multiple domains. These kinds of applications necessitate the critical need for intelligent optical network control plane which is aware and can compute end-to-end paths based several domain specific and technology specific parameters. Standardized interworking across various multi-granularity network interfaces and interoperability among vendorÂ’s equipment/domains are crucial to provision end-to-end services and establish cost effective network evolution path. Current optical networks are based on multiple technologies and control solutions, standard and propriety, making inter-domain and inter-carrier interworking difficult posing several new requirements, for example, the routing process needs to know the extent of each domain and the granularities on each link within the domains and should be sensitive to the costs associated in traversing through other domains; the domain specific information sharing and dissemination; performance monitoring across multiple domains; fault-localization and reporting; security; billing and accounting; control plane standardization; efficient inter-domain routing protocols such as OBGP/PNNI; SLA negotiation and guarantee across multiple domains; interoperability issues; etc. Needless to say that, by having an interoperable and standard control plane across mutli domain optical networks, carriers can benefit from cost effective selection of network elements, platforms, and multiple vendor solutions resulting in faster deployment and reduced CAPEX and OPEX. To promote research and address these challenges many leading private and government agencies have funded numerous projects across the world. Clearly,
these newer research initiatives will play a crucial “prove-in” role for emergent multi-domain optical networks, and their importance cannot be understated. This special issue will serve to share the collective experiences of researchers, industry professionals, practicing engineers, network operators, and equipment vendors in the area of multi-domain optical networking space.
-----------------------------
Scope of Contributions
-----------------------------
This feature topic aims to consolidate and disseminate the recent developments and advances in the area of multi-domain optical networks. The articles describing original research and development, deployment issues and challenges, experimental results and applications as well as survey articles related to multi-domain optical networks are solicited. In particular, we solicit papers in the area of multi-domain optical networks focusing on topics including but not limited to:
• Multi-domain optical networks (opaque, transparent, translucent) architecture and design
