First ACM/IEEE International Conference on Distributed Smart Cameras
(ICDSC-07)
September 25-28, 2007
Vienna, Austria
http://www.icdsc.org/
Call for Papers
Scope
Distributed smart cameras combine techniques from computer vision,
distributed processing, and embedded computing. Technological advances
in the design of sensors and processors have facilitated the development
of efficient embedded vision-based techniques. Distributed algorithms
can provide more confident deductions about the events of interest or
reduce ambiguities in a view caused by occlusion or other factors.
Because they operate in real time, a variety of smart environment
applications can be enabled based on the development of efficient
architectures and algorithms for distributed vision networks.
The conference aims to provide an opportunity for researchers working in
the areas of smart camera architectures, algorithm design, embedded
vision-based processing, and smart environments to exchange their most
recent results. Offering insight into the potentials and challenges of
distributed vision networks and presentation of design methodologies
employed by leading research groups working in these areas are also the
objectives of the conference. Presentations accompanied by
demonstrations and contributions based on industrial applications are
also of interest.

*********************************************************************
SUBJECT AND SCOPE
-----------------
This workshop covers comprehensively the algorithmic issues in the hot
area of ad hoc and sensor networking. In particular, sensor networks are
currently recognized as one of the priority research areas (for example,
a multi-disciplinary program on sensors and sensor networks was launched
in 2003 at the US National Science Foundation) and research activities
are booming recently.
This workshop concentrates on network layer problems like data
communication (routing, QoS-routing, geocasting, multicasting,
broadcasting, etc.) and topology control (neighbor discovery, power
adjustment, neighbor elimination, etc.). The main paradigm shift is to
apply localized (or greedy) schemes as opposed to existing protocols
requiring global information. Localized algorithms are distributed
algorithms where simple local node behavior achieves a desired global
objective. Localized protocols provide scalable solutions, that is,
solutions for wireless networks with an arbitrary number of nodes, which
is the main goal of this plan. Sensor and rooftop/mesh networks, for
instance, have hundreds or thousands of nodes.
The objective of the workshop is to present state of the art research
results on data communication and topology control in rapidly growing
area of ad hoc and sensor networks, with emphasizes on localized techniques.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Medium access control
* Analytical, mobility and validation models
* Hybrid networks and wireless Internet
* Security in ad hoc networks
* Data management, query processing, and data delivery in sensor networks
* Unicast routing, multicasting, and broadcasting
* Geocasting and anycasting
* Energy-efficient and bandwidth-efficient protocols
* Quality of service in medium access control and routing
* Topology construction and maintenance
* Neighborhood discovery and mobility management
* Localized protocols for duty-cycled sensor networks
* Sensor area coverage problems
* Auto-configuration and network formation protocols and algorithms
* Relative positioning algorithms
* Lower bounds on information exchange required for localized solutions
* Network graph properties supporting localized protocols
* Worst and average case analysis on the deviation from optimal solutions

Betreff: [Tccc] WiMob'07: Special Session on Mobility Models
Datum: Wed, 02 May 2007 23:56:58 -0400
Von: Fabrice Valois <fabrice.valois(a)insa-lyon.fr>
An: tccc(a)cs.columbia.edu
CFP for IEEE WiMOB’2007 special session on Mobility Models for
Mobile Ad hoc Networks, Mesh networks, Wireless networks and NEMO
networks
The session is a part of the 3rd IEEE International Conference on
Wireless and Mobile Computing, Networking and Communications
“WiMob 2007”
http://www.gel.usherbrooke.ca/WiMob2007/, which will take place in
Crowne Plaza Hotel, White Plains, New York, USA, from October 8-10, 2007.
Motivations:
Because WiMob'07 conference is focused on wireless networks and because
the performances of wireless networks are strongly linked to the
mobility models used, we propose a special session focusing only on
mobility models. This session is focused on these kind of wireless
networks:
- MANET: Mobile ad hoc networks where whole the topology is dynamic
- Mesh networks and classical wireless networks offering an
infrastructure topologies allowing fixed and mobile Internet for the
end user.
- Network Mobile (NEMO) networks offering new kind of dynamic topology
where not only the user is mobile but also the network
These kind of networks should deal with mobility: user mobility, group
mobility, etc. But, what is really mobility? how mobility influences the
performances? how to define new mobility models? etc.
Scope of the Contributions for Mobility Models in the case of MANET,
Mesh Networks, Wireless Networks and NEMO networks (include but are not
limited to the following):
- Performance evaluation of mobility models
- New mobility models to mimic particular behavior
- Theoretical aspects of mobility models
- Theoretical frameworks for mobility
- Mobility models based on realistic traces
- Mobility management
- Networking protocols and mobility models
- Tools for mobility models (generators, integrators to simulators, ..)
- etc.
Authors are invited to submit a complete technical paper of their
original work. Maximum length for submissions is 8 double column pages
in IEEE format. The preferred submission format is PDF.
Session Chair: Fabrice Valois, INSA Lyon, France
Session Co-chair: Thomas Noel, University of Strasbourg, France
Submissions should be sent attached by email to the session chairs at:

Call for Papers
COMPUTER NETWORKS JOURNAL (ELSEVIER)
Special Issue on
WIRELESS MULTIMEDIA SENSOR NETWORKS
*EXTENDED* Submission deadline: July 30, 2007

_____________________________________________________________________
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) have recently been the focus of a
significant amount of attention and effort of the research community.
The main motivation has been to address the challenges posed by the
WSN paradigm, i.e., limited node power, processing, and communication
capabilities, dense network deployment, multi-hop communications, and
heterogeneous application-specific requirements. The vast majority of
these studies applies to conventional WSN applications which need
reliable and efficient communication of scalar event features and
sensor data such as temperature, pressure, humidity.
With the availability of low-cost small-scale imaging sensors, CMOS
cameras, microphones, which may ubiquitously capture multimedia
content from the field, Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSN)
have been proposed and drawn the immediate attention of the research
community. WMSN applications, e.g., multimedia surveillance networks,
target tracking, environmental monitoring, and traffic management
systems, require effective harvesting and communication of event
features in the form of multimedia such as audio, image, and video.
To this end, additional challenges for energy-efficient multimedia
processing and communication in WMSN, i.e., heterogeneous multimedia
reliability definitions, tight QoS expectations, and high bandwidth
demands, must be addressed as well.
This special issue solicits papers describing the state-of-the-art,
reliable and efficient multimedia processing and delivery solutions
imperative for the realization of WMSN. Original contributions
(previously unpublished and not currently under review) are
solicited in areas including (but not limited to) the following:
* Novel WMSN architectures and applications
* Protocols for real-time, reliable multimedia streaming in WMSN
* Energy-efficient MAC, routing, and traffic management for WMSN
* Cross-layer design for effective communications in WMSN
* Low-bit rate and energy-efficient multimedia source coding for WMSN
* Joint multimedia processing and communication solutions for WMSN
* Distributed source coding and multimedia processing in WMSN
* Information fusion and multimedia aggregation in WMSN
* Group and cooperative communications for multimedia delivery in
sensor/actor networks
* WMSN capacity modeling and theoretical analysis
* Delay-tolerant networking for WMSN
* Topology control, localization, synchronization, and mobility
* Physical layer technologies for efficient WMSN
* Secure multimedia communications in WMSN
* Experimental and testbed studies of WMSN
