In such approaches, the principal paradigm is not host-to-host communication as in the current Internet architecture. Instead, an increasing demand for highly scalable and efficient distribution of content has motivated the development of architectures that focus on information objects, their properties, and receiver interest in the network to achieve efficient and reliable distribution of such objects. Corresponding network architectures can leverage in-network storage, multiparty communication through replication and interaction models such as publish-subscribe to provide general platforms for communication services that are today only available in dedicated systems such as peer-to-peer overlays and proprietary content-distribution networks. Important research topics for ICN include: naming and addressing (how to name information objects, how to represent location information), routing and resolution (deciding on how to forward "interest" in information and actual information objects, whether and how to resolve information object names to lower layer identifiers during that process), resource management (implications of in-network caching and paradigms such as receiver-orientation to resource sharing, congestion control etc.) and security (privacy, data protection and key distribution have to be adapted to the new communication models). This workshop invites original contributions on Information-Centric Networking architecture topics as well as on results from implementations and experimentation. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Naming and addressing in ICN * Routing and name resolution in ICN * Resource management (caching strategies, congestion control) * Security, privacy and trust in ICN * Testbeds and simulation frameworks * Business and deployment aspects * New application opportunities with ICN * Design and definition of the basic ICN primitives * Accountability in ICN (e.g. referrals, click-throughs, etc) * Billing, costing and invoicing for ICN traffic * Metadata and network extensions for ICN * Real-time traffic over ICN (voice, video, etc) * PDUs, fragmentation and â€œpacket sizeâ€ implications on design * Overlays and underlays with ICN * ICNs in mobile networks * Concurrency, locking and synchronization for ICN data * Versioning, deletion, revocation and general ICN object management * Monitoring, troubleshooting and management tools for ICNs Submission instructions ------------------------ Submissions must be no greater than 6 pages in length and must be a pdf file. Thus, how to improve dependability of these systems is still an open issue. Call for Papers IEEE Communications Magazine Consumer Communications and Networking Series Recent trends in consumer networking are that consumers are both creators and producers of content (albeit of varying quality!) and peer distribution is the natural model. This is one of the emerging trends that impact how consumers can use devices to create, manipulate, store, and access content and is surely a much different view compared to only five years ago where most experts still viewed the world in terms of servers and clients, producers and consumers as distinct and separate entities.indeed, there are still dinosaur organizations out there today who are fighting a rearguard action to protect their dwindling revenue streams because they havent been brave enough to embrace this new model. Trends like this are ones that papers for the consumer communications and networking series should address. We have also seen the technological reach of existing solutions being applied in unconventional ways where all aspects of our digital lives are being consumed to provide novel platforms where interoperation between disparate technologies is now possible. For example, the automotive industry is now producing cars that include ad hoc networks designed to provide multimedia solutions as well as links to wide area communications via satellite networks. Using these networking capabilities and interfaces such as USB we see automobile functionality being extended. In this sense the boundaries between the car and conventional consumer devices are beginning to blur. Perhaps the sole technology responsible for the many technological advances we see today is communications. Example communications technologies include the emergence of 3G and 4G, LTE and WiMax, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Ultrawideband, TV-band, and Powerline and Free space optical. Applications of these technologies include personal and body area networking, home networking, game networking, ad-hoc networking, and sensor networking. These networks may be connected through networking layers that are cognitive, peer-to-peer enabled, and have the properties of self organisation and management. These networks will become key enablers where we are already seeing ubiquitous content distribution models, for example, television can now be viewed wherever we are and on any devices capable of connecting to one of the many networking paradigms defined above. With these networks we can expect a platform for true innovation where content distribution will overlay these networks using compression, rights management, delivery, and appropriate quality of service mechanisms that can be seamlessly moved over these next generation networks. All of this is made possible by networking, software and middleware that present to the service designer the tools to provide ease of use, security, and stunning interactivity to the end consumer. With this in mind the IEEE Communications Magazine is seeking papers that emphasize consumer networking in whatever physical environment it finds itself. Also new for this year, we will have a Special Section organized in collaboration with the IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management (TNSM) to provide fast-tracking of high-quality papers from this forum for journal publication, and a Best Paper Award will be given this year as well. Improving quality of service (QoS) in both networks and end-systems has been a long lasting research focus worldwide. The eighteen-year-long success of IWQoS has established it as a highly reputable forum to present novel ideas on all research subjects related to QoS. While QoS research for future generations of wired and wireless networks continues to captivate much interest, recent exploration of data centers, virtualization, cloud computing, industrial communication, and "green" computing has motivated a new wave of research interest in QoS and its related metrics such as Quality of Experience (QoE) and Quality of Protection (QoP) . The scope of IWQoS 2011 covers both theoretical and experimental research on QoS related issues such as survivability, availability, reliability, security, privacy, pricing, resource provisioning and management, user experience, and system performance guarantees. - Topics of interest include QoS issues in (but not limited to) the following areas: Data centers, virtualization and cloud computing - Energy saving in networks and end systems; IT technologies to reduce energy consumption in applications - Protection, experience, security and privacy - System dependability, availability; resilience and robustness to faults and DoS attacks - Scheduling, resource management, queue management, admission control; traffic engineering approaches and tools for provisioning and evaluation - Quality evaluation metrics and methodologies; application-aware QoS parsing, identification and control - Measurement, evaluation, adaptation and verification - Network operations, pricing and billing, network and service management - Architectures and protocols for IP and WDM networks, overlay and peer-to-peer networks; wireless ad-hoc, mesh, and sensor networks - Design for the future Internet - Green technology for computing, networking, and communications Paper Submission Guidelines: IWQoS invites submission of manuscripts with original research results that have not been previously published or that are not currently under review by another conference or journal. Submissions will be judged based on originality, significance, interest, clarity, relevance, and correctness. Paper submissions should be no longer than 9 single-spaced, double-column pages with font-size of 10. Papers must be submitted electronically as PDF files through the EDAS system (http://edas.info/). All submitted papers will be subject to peer reviews by Technical Program Committee members and other experts in the field. IWQoS aims at rapid dissemination of research results. For fast turnaround in the review process, a short review and publication cycle is designed, with the submission deadline as close to the workshop as the publisher allows. The proceedings will be published in the ACM Portal and IEEE Xplore. After the initial hype, at the current stage, several ongoing research efforts are focusing on the several open management aspects of the Cloud, such as interoperability, scalability, reliability, power management, and confidentiality/auditability, with the final goal to make Cloud technologies and services more mature so to boost and to facilitate a more widespread industrial uptake of Cloud systems. Despite the several recent efforts on Cloud systems, it is still unclear whether current solutions are able to withstand the abrupt and unpredictably changes imposed by the emergent Cloud application scenarios, where services and the whole software stacks (from the kernel upward) have to scale up and down fast by exploiting highly distributed and heterogeneous virtualized resources. The ambition and mission of MoCS 2011 is to put on the foreground all above issues, and to bring together different ongoing research efforts on the management of Cloud systems. This year, special focus will be on the challenging management issues related to the delivery of efficient Green computing solutions over the Cloud. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following: * Novel adaptive management solutions for scalable, maintainable, cost-effective Cloud provision, at all software stack layers; * New models and paradigms for the management of Cloud services at the host level and within/between data centres (intra-/inter-domain); * Analytical and simulation models and tools to measure systems ability to scale and to achieve relevant energy savings; * New methods and tools able to identify and enforce optimal trade- offs between performance, energy consumption, safety, and security; * Emerging standards for interoperability (resource virtualization, specific computing interfaces, etc.), also between public and private Clouds; * Experimentation testbeds, field trials and empirical evaluations, and measurement studies. The central element of this vision is the existence of a network of interconnected objects (from books to cars, from electrical appliances to food) that will be able not only to obtain information from their surroundings and interact with the physical world, but also to use existing Internet standards to provide services. However, security is extremely important for achieving this goal. As this worldwide network of interconnected objects can be exploited anywhere by anyone and anytime, it is necessary to enhance it with strong security foundations able to give birth to a world-changing paradigm. In fact, in order to adequately protect the IoT, there are plenty of factors that must be taken into account. For example, the protection of the different building blocks, the creation of interoperable security mechanisms, the development of new services that allow multiple entities (e.g., human beings, machines, objects) to cooperate with each other, and the management of all the information produced by those interactions. This special issue is proposed to cover research results and innovation case studies on security for the Internet of Things. Topics of interest include but are not limited to: * New security problems in the context of the IoT. * Privacy risks and data management problems. * Identifying, authenticating, and authorizing entities. * Development of trust frameworks for secure collaboration. * New cryptographic primitives for constrained "things". * Connecting heterogeneous ecosystems and technologies. * Legal Challenges and Governance Issues. * Resilience to external and internal attacks. * Context-Aware security. * Providing protection to an IP-connected IoT. * Web services security and other application-layer issues. * Distributed policy enforcement and rights management. * Usability of Security and Privacy Technologies in the context of the IoT. Submitted papers must represent high-quality and previously unpublished works. Original research papers are solicited in all areas on security for the Internet of Things. Handheld electronics, location devices, telecommunications networks, and a wide assortment of tags and sensors are constantly producing a rich stream of data reflecting various aspects of urban life. For urban planners and designers, these accumulations of digital traces are valuable sources of data in capturing the pulse of the city in an astonishing degree of temporal and spatial detail. Yet this condition of the hybrid city - which operates simultaneously in the digital and physical realms - also poses difficult questions about privacy, scale, and design, among many others. These questions must be addressed as we move toward achieving an augmented, fine-grained understanding of how the city functions - socially, economically and yes, even psychologically. This workshop aims to bring together researchers and practitioners to discuss and explore the research challenges and opportunities in applying the pervasive computing paradigm to urban spaces. We are seeking multi-disciplinary contributions that reveal interesting aspects about urban life and exploit the digital traces to create novel urban applications that benefit citizens, urban planners, and policy makers.
