CALL FOR SHORT PRESENTATIONS AND POSITION PAPERS
iTrust is an Information Society Technologies (IST) Working Group, which
started on 1st of August, 2002. The Working Group is being funded as a
Concerted Action / Thematic Network by the Future and Emerging
Technologies (FET) unit of the IST programme.
The aim of iTrust is to provide a forum for cross-disciplinary
investigation of the application of trust as a means of establishing
security and confidence in the global computing infrastructure,
recognizing trust as a crucial enabler for meaningful and mutually
beneficial interactions. The forum brings together researchers with a
keen interest of complementary aspects of trust, from both
technology-oriented disciplines and the field of law, social sciences
and philosophy.
To support the interdisciplinary focus of iTrust, the 3rd iTrust
Workshop offers four main sessions covering the fields Computer Science,
Economy, Law, and Philosophy/Social Sciences. Each session consists of a
keynote speech followed by a number of short presentations.
The following lead speakers are selected:
Computer Science: Prof. Dr. Joachim Biskup, University of Dortmund,
Germany
Economy: TBA
Law: Prof. Dr. juris Olav Torvlund, NRCCL, University of Oslo, Norway, and
Dr. Michael Bohne, Westfälische Wilhelsuniversität Münster, Germany
Philosophy/Social Sciences: Dr. Rino Falcone, Institute of Cognitive
Sciences and Technologies, Rome, Italy
Proposals for short presentations are called hereby. A short
presentation will have a duration of about 10 minutes. It should be
accompanied by an abstract or extended abstract of up to five pages in
order to enable the iTrust Steering Committee to decide about acceptance
or rejection.
Moreover, a short presentation can be accompanied by a position paper
which will be published within the iTrust web pages. The position paper
should not exceed 10 pages.
Submission Guidelines:
Submit proposal for short presentation including abstract or extended
abstract by email to Peter.Herrmann(a)udo.edu.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Placing people at the centre of an 'all-communicating' world is the exciting
vision of ambient intelligence. New paradigms in the areas of network
design, transmission technology, hardware and software solutions,
applications, services, and business models will be necessary to realize
such interactive environments. The arising challenges are currently being
addressed in a number of research projects within the European Information
Society Technologies (IST) framework.
The 14th IST Summit focuses on bringing together experts from the worldwide
wireless industry and research communities, with a special emphasis on
providing a forum for European research initiatives. Recent advances in all
fields related to mobile and wireless communications will be presented,
thereby facilitating the identification of future trends, illumination of
business opportunities, and discussion on the future roles of various bodies
from academia, industry, and research centres in helping to form the vision
of an ambient, truly intelligent communications environment.
Authors are invited to submit high-quality papers representing original
results in all areas of wireless communications systems and networks,
including their terrestrial, satellite and high altitude platform
components. Submitted papers should not exceed five pages. Accepted papers
will be published in conference proceedings.

Scope
Wireless networks and communication systems are increasingly being
used in a wide range of networking applications, from general purpose
networks, personal area networks and short-range communications, to
sensor networks, ubiquitous computing, and other networks with fixed
or variable topology. Performance evaluation of the network with
respect to the application requirements is a vital part of research
in this area, where network performance is affected by different
aspects at the physical, data link, network, and transport layers,
all of which are intimately related to topology, energy efficiency,
management, user mobility, and security issues.
This workshop will focus on the area of performance evaluation of
wireless networks and communication systems, spanning a wide range of
issues from physical to application layer. The main objective is to
evaluate relevant models, algorithms, protocols, simulation tools,
and other recent advances that lead to improved understanding of the
performance of wireless networks and communication systems.
Topics of Interest
We are seeking papers that describe original and unpublished
contributions addressing various performance aspects of wireless
networks and communication systems including modeling, simulation and
measurement/testing. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Performance of wireless local area networks, wireless personal area
networks, ad hoc networks, and sensor networks
* Recent standards for wireless communications (802.11, Bluetooth,
802.15 and its varieties, ZigBee, etc.), their performance and
comparison
* Media access control protocols and their impact on performance
* Routing, broadcasting, and multicasting
* Quality of Service (QoS) provisioning
* TCP performance in WPANs and ad-hoc networks
* User mobility modeling, mobility management, and the impact of
mobility on network performance
* Topology construction and maintenance, and the impact of topology
changes on network performance
* Interoperability, interference and co-existence of wireless
networks of different standards
* Performance issues of integration of WLANs and WPANs with the 3G
cellular systems
* Methods for analytical modeling of wireless networks
* Methods and tools for wireless network simulation and performance
evaluation
Paper Submission
Submit full papers as PDF files by email to both program chairs. The
papers should not have more than twenty single-column, double-spaced
pages, excluding figures, tables, and references, using a font of at
least 12-point size. It is crucial that all graphical and tabular
elements be placed within the text, so that the PDF file is suitable
for reviewing. In addition to the paper in PDF format, your
submission should include the title of the paper, the names of the
authors and their affiliations, postal address, phone, fax, and
e-mail address of the corresponding author, an abstract with up to
200-250 words, and up to five keywords describing the contents of the
paper.

Submission of Papers: January 31, 2005
Notification of Acceptance: April 25, 2005 Final Camera-Ready
Submission: May 23, 2005

International Journal of Wireless and Mobile Computing
Special Issue Announcement
Medium Access Control for WLANs, WPANs, Ad Hoc Networks, and Sensor
Networks
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Guest Editors
Dr. Yang Xiao, The University of Memphis, USA
Email: yangxiao(a)ieee.org
Dr. Kui Wu, University of Victoria, Canada
Email: wkui(a)cs.uvic.ca
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The recent evolution and successful development of Wireless Local Area
Networks (WLANs), Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPANs), Ad Hoc
Networks, and Sensor Networks have yielded a demand to improve the
Medium Access Control (MAC) Layer. The key goals of this improvement
include Quality of Service (QoS) support mechanisms, efficient channel
access mechanisms, and energy saving mechanisms, etc. The effort to
improve the MAC layer is linked with many technical challenges
including compatibility with legacy networks, complexity in
implementation, and practical values in real market, etc. The need to
address QoS support, MAC enhancement, and energy saving and provide
timely, solid technical contributions in the MAC layer of these
networks establishes the motivation behind this special issue.
This special issue focuses on the novel and practical ways to improve
the MAC layer protocols in terms of QoS support, channel access, and
energy saving for WLANs, WPANs, Ad Hoc Networks, and Sensor Networks.
Papers that do not focus on the MAC layer will not be reviewed.
Specific areas of interest include (but are not limited to):
Quality of Service support in the MAC layer
Channel access protocols in the MAC layer
Energy efficiency in the MAC layer
The manuscripts should be submitted as an e-mail attachment in PDF
format to Yang Xiao at yangxiao(a)memphis.edu. If the file is larger than
1MB, the authors are encouraged to use WINZIP. Submitted papers must
not be previously published nor submitted for publication elsewhere.
Accepted papers should not exceed 6000 words or 12 single spaced pages
in IEEE Transactions style. If email submission is impossible then six
(6) copies of the paper should be sent by the due date to:
