Such networks fall into the fields of mobile ad-hoc networking (MANET) and delay-tolerant networking (DTN).Opportunistic Networks enable user communication in an environment where disconnection and reconnection are common and link performance is extremely dynamic. They are very suitable to support the situation where network infrastructure has limited coverage and users have "islands of connectivity". By taking advantage of device mobility, information can be stored and forwarded over a wireless link when connection 'opportunities' arise (e.g. an appropriate network contact is met). In this view, traditional Internet connectivity can be considered as a special case of connection opportunity. With numerous emerging applications, Opportunistic Networks allow a huge number of devices to communicate end-to-end without requiring any pre-existing infrastructure and are very suitable to support pervasive networking scenarios. Topics of Interest ----------------- Original papers addressing applications and architecture, systems and protocols design, development and analysis, in all areas related to Opportunistic Networking are solicited. Papers that bring out interesting and novel ideas at an early stage are favored over highly-polish journal-style results. It encompasses ad hoc radio networks, sensor networks, wireless mesh networks and mobile multihop relay related to the industrial and standardization activities such as IEEE 802.11s, 802.15.4, 802.16j, etc. Further the multihop communications can be combined with cooperative communications and network coding, which attracted more researchers in this field. The idea behind such multihop communications is to utilize the availability of other nodes or to borrow their transmission capability. This in many cases exceeds the delay caused by the multihop relay, the gain from which is capacity enhancement as well as coverage extension of plain radio networks. Now we turn our attention to the robotics area. In these days, many researchers are noticing group behaviors found in small insects or animals such as ants, birds, and fish, trying to realize such behaviors into the control and coordination of a team of robots with their local interaction. The multiple (usually small) robots communicate each other, sharing the same mission, naturally through wireless communications. In this respect, wireless multihop communication is an excellent candidate for inter-robot information exchange. The main idea of this workshop is to bridge the above two areas (wireless multihop communications and networked robotics) by opening a place for researchers to meet and exchange their ideas. In particular, we now face the possibility to spontaneously establish wireless self- organizing networks, such as ad hoc, disruption-tolerant, sensor, and wireless mesh networks. These spontaneous self-organizing networks have been the focus of intensive research activity in recent years. Spontaneous networks arise from the cooperation of mobile devices in an ad hoc fashion requiring no previous infrastructure in place. A key point to couple research and real-life applications in this context is to understand how mobility (of devices, users, and applications) impacts practical networking aspects. The knowledge accumulated so far in the area of wireless self-organizing networks is in general supported by either simulation or theoretical analysis relying on strong assumptions. The research community needs a step forward and should definitely consider real aspects of mobility in their protocols and algorithms. Such a situation is to be compared with the one found for infrastructure-based networks (e.g., cellular networks), in which mobility has been thoroughly investigated (both theoretically and through measurements) and properly incorporated in their management architecture. In wireless self-organizing networks, contrary to common belief, much is still to be done in this domain, and definitive solutions are still to emerge. Mobility can no longer be seen as an issue to be hidden from higher layers of the protocol stack, but as an expected characteristic of today's communication systems. In this context, it is of utmost importance to address issues related to the impact of mobility as seen in practice, covering characterization, modeling, and applications of mobility in modern wireless networks. The research community working on wireless self-organizing networks has recently started giving more attention to the practical mobility issues in this area. This may be attested by the increasing number of initiatives worldwide like the many measurement campaigns and the considerable body of developed theoretical background work supported by practical arguments (e.g., mobility models, mobility increasing network capacity, relationship between node mobility and wireless channel conditions). The goal of this special issue is to help filling this gap by presenting contributions ranging from the impact of mobility on self-organizing networks to mobility-aware architectures for self-organizing networks. As we intend to focus on the practical impacts of mobility in wireless self-organizing networks, papers presenting insights from the applicability of mobility measurements and realistic mobility models in this context are also expected. We will be particularly interested in contributions that explore mobility to improve the behavior of network protocols and algorithms. We are soliciting papers covering, but not limited to, the following topics: * Mobility-aware architectures for self-organizing networks. * Impact of mobility on self-organizing networks. * Practical applicability of wireless testbeds and mobility measurements. * Realistic mobility models for self-organizing networks. * Mobility-centric killer applications. We particularly look for position papers containing highly original ideas in the following topic areas, although papers describing other challenges unique to or exacerbated by mobility are also welcome: * Operating system and distributed systems support for mobile computing * Coordination, aggregation, and spontaneous interaction of mobile devices * Novel applications and environments supporting mobility * HCI issues related to mobile computing * Security and privacy of mobile computing * Management, configuration, and deployment of systems supporting mobility Submissions describing new lower-level technologies are welcome if they focus on how the technology is being used or integrated into a system or application. HotMobile 2008 will be a highly interactive workshop. Submissions will be judged based upon originality, technical merit, topical relevance, and likelihood of leading to insightful discussion at the workshop. To encourage an atmosphere conducive to participation, attendance will be limited to 70 participants. Authors of submitted papers and accepted demo proposals will be given first priority, with others able to register on a space-available basis. Paper submissions are due on Oct 16, 2007 at 23:59:59 EST. Submissions should contain 6 or fewer U.S. letter pages in PDF format. Papers should be single column using 12pt font. The conference proceedings will be published by the ACM. Preliminary proceedings will be made available to workshop participants online ahead of the workshop. Printed proceedings will be published and mailed to participants after the workshop. As is customary, papers must not have been published elsewhere and may not be simultaneously under submission at another venue. Poster and demo submissions are due on January 14th, 2008 at 23:59:59 EST. Submissions must include an extended abstract limited to one 8.5x11-inch page in 12pt font. This dependency creates strict requirements for the delivered services. The seventh European Dependable Computing Conference aims at providing a European-hosted venue for researchers and practioners from all over the world to present and discuss their latest research achievements. EDCC is the successor of two European conference series on fault-tolerance, dependability, and testing dating back to the 70s and 80s. EDCC is now an established conference on dependability organized every 2 years by a European country and attracting papers from all over the world. INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS: Manuscripts should be submitted in the following categories: Regular Papers, Practical Experience Reports, Prototype-Tool descriptions and Panels. Regular Papers should describe original research (not submitted or published elsewhere) and be not more than 20 double-spaced pages including figures and tables using 11-point type. Practical Experience Reports (5-12 pages) should describe an experience or a case study, such as the design and deployment of a system or actual failure and recovery field data. Prototype-Tool description papers (5-12 pages) should outline the design or implementation of a software tool, a prototype or an operational system, etc. Panels (2-4 pages) should describe the panel objectives, and include the bios of the Panel proposers and the probable panelists.
