*ACM MobiCom’21 Call for Demos*
The ACM MobiCom 2021 demo session solicits the submission of research,
platform, and product demonstrations, and exhibits from both academia and
industry.
Demonstrations should showcase innovative research or product prototypes,
platforms, and applications in the areas of mobile computing and wireless
and mobile networking. We strongly encourage demos based on novel
applications in the domain of mobile computing and wireless systems. We
also welcome live demos reproducing evaluation results of papers appearing
in ACM Mobicom 2021 or past editions as well as other relevant venues.
Please refer to the main conference introduction and CFP for the general
areas that are relevant to the typical MobiCom audience.
*Submission instructions*
Please send your proposal of demo or exhibit directly to the demo co-chair (
limo(a)ntu.edu.sg, petrovam(a)kth.se). Please indicate “mobicom21 demo
submission” followed by your demo title in the subject of your email. The
paper should be a summary or extended abstract describing the research to
be presented, details about what will be actually shown to the audience,
maximum 2 pages in US letter size (8.5 x 11 inches) with fonts no smaller
than 10 point size, in PDF file format with one extra page for references.
The submission should indicate whether you would like the submission to be
considered for the Student Research Competition and, if this is the case,
indicate whether any of the student authors is an undergraduate student.
*Demo presentation *
Due to possible COVID19 constraints on travel, MobiCom’21 demo session will
be held in a hybrid mode. For accepted demo submissions, authors will
prepare for either demonstrating their work on site or sending in a demo
video that will be made available on MobiCom’21 website. In either case,
the authors will be required to address questions from conference attendees
in a live demo session onsite or remotely.

*** Featured Topic: Unconventional Communication ***
Embedded wireless systems undergo continuous evolution, which requires a
scientific discourse of relevant trends, such as the emerging topic of
embedded systems for 6G. "Unconventional Communication" triggers questions
for new PHY layers from visual light communication to molecular or
microfluidic sensor communication systems for the Internet of Nano- or
BioNanoThings. In addition, it challenges higher layers of communications,
including embedded systems that incorporate embedded AI for autonomy,
safety, resilience, fault- and exception-managing, and being
self-reflective, i.e., networked things that act and react in real-time.
Moreover, "unconventional" means also to discuss inspiring methods from
information theory and complex systems and the far-reaching question of how
embedded wireless systems affect compliance with the UN SDGs (Sustainable
Development Goals). The impact on climate change, cheap technology for
developing societies, beneficial to health and overall development can be
supported by responsible and inclusive embedded wireless systems to embrace
all people irrespective of race, gender, disability, medical or other need.
It is about giving equal access and opportunities and getting rid of
discrimination and removal of barriers with different disabilities.

Computer Communications (Elsevier) Special Issue on Intelligent Wireless
Networking, Sensing, and Communications
Heterogenous modern smart devices are penetrating various aspects of
people’s work and life. Cisco estimates that the total number of global
mobile subscribers will reach 5.7 billion while nearly 300 million mobile
applications will be downloaded by 2023. The increasing number of smart
devices and the emerging diverse applications brings forward an inevitable
need for highly efficient processing and operation of wireless networking,
sensing, and communications. To realize this vision, a promising approach
is to integrate machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) into
the design, planning, and optimization of wireless communication networks.
ML enables deep mining of valuable knowledge from network data and
automatically discovers latent relations that are difficult to extract by
human experts. Popular ML techniques such as Deep learning (DL) and
Reinforcement Learning have achieved remarkable performance for complex
real-world problems in various areas such as natural language processing
(NLP), computer vision, gaming, and robotics. Consequently, the emerging ML
methods provide enormous research opportunities to enable intelligent
wireless communication, sensing, and networking by addressing key problems
including signal processing, network optimization, resource management,
routing, network protocol design, user behaviour analysis, etc.
The objective of this special issue is to assemble high-quality research
papers on emerging theories, frameworks, architectures and algorithms for
solving the challenging problems related to intelligent wireless
networking, sensing, and communications. In addition to papers from open
call, the substantially extended works of selected excellent papers from
the 17th International Conference on Mobility, Sensing and Networking
(MSN-2021) will be recommended to this special issue. It will offer an open
platform for scholars and engineers to exchange their recent novel ideas
and explore the potential convergence of existing wireless networking,
sensing, and communication systems and advanced ML and AI technologies.
Topics include, but are not limited to the following:
• Intelligent resource and network management
• Distributed machine learning algorithms and implementations over wireless
communication networks
• Machine learning and AI for anomaly detection

*Call for papers: IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics*
*Special Section on Cyber-Physical Threats and Solutions for Autonomous
Transportation Systems*
Theme: The rapid evolution of technology has radically changed our everyday
lives from multiple points of view. Among the others, transportation
systems are nowadays populated by smart and interconnected vehicles that
need to communicate with each other and with critical infrastructures to
orchestrate traffic and mobility. Transportation systems are hence operated
through multiple technologies that need to cooperate to provide efficient
delivery of goods and human mobility, as well as to provide security in the
overall networks. The latter task is complicated by the fact that vehicles
autonomously drive and cooperate in the network without human intervention.
The overall transportation network can be therefore represented by a
cyber-physical system, where a large number of sensors, actuators, and
multiple technologies are connected and exchange information. To guarantee
the overall network
security, attack detection and the design of suitable countermeasures play
a fundamental role. The security of cyber-physical systems has been widely
studied in literature. However, most of the proposed solutions target
either the cyber or the physical threats, without providing a unified view
able to detect and mitigate more complicated attacks. The purpose of this
special issue is therefore to collect the latest research achievements in
the cyber-physical threats and countermeasures in autonomous transportation
systems.
This special section will focus on (but not limited to) the following topics:
- Methods for detection of cyber-physical attacks in transportation systems
- Design of countermeasures for cyber-physical attacks in transportation
systems
- Hardware solutions for mitigating the attacks on controller area networks
of automotive
- Protocol and semantics agnostic security solutions to automotive CPS
- Formal modeling of cyber-physical attacks in transportation systems
- Privacy preserving solutions for cyber-physical transportation systems
- Cyber-physical threats in platoons/swarms
- Scalability of the security solutions in autonomous transportation systems
- Blockchain solutions against cyber-physical threats in autonomous
transportation systems
- Security testing of vulnerabilities in automotive CPS

ACM SIGCOMM 2022
August 22-26, 2022
Amsterdam, the Netherlands
https://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2022/
***Important dates***
* Jan 26, 2022, 23:59 UTC -- Abstract registration deadline
* Feb 2, 2022, 23:59 UTC -- Paper submission deadline
* April 14/May 7, 2022 - Early/Notification date
***Call for Papers***
The ACM SIGCOMM 2022 conference seeks papers describing significant
research contributions to the field of communication networks and networked
systems. SIGCOMM takes a broad view of networking research, which includes
(but is not limited to) the following topics:
* All types of computer networks such as mobile, wide-area,
data-center, embedded, home, and enterprise networks.
* All types of wired and wireless technologies, including optics,
radio, and acoustic and visible light-based communication.
* All aspects of networks and networked systems such as architecture,
packet-processing hardware and software, virtualization, mobility, resource
management, performance, energy consumption, topology, robustness,
security, diagnosis, verification, privacy, economics, evolution, and
interactions with applications.
* All types of computer network design, analysis, and experimental
approaches such as theory, measurements, and machine learning-based techniques.
SIGCOMM 2022 will accept submissions in two tracks. In the regular
research track, papers should significantly advance the state-of-the-art in
networking by, for instance, proposing and developing novel ideas or
rigorously (re-)evaluating existing ideas. The review process will take the
nature of the contribution into account. We strongly encourage authors to
discuss not only the benefits but also the limitations of their work.
In the experience track, submissions should describe the design, analysis,
and evaluation of techniques in commercial or otherwise widely-used
deployment. Experience track submissions need not describe new ideas, but
are strongly encouraged to elucidate key insights and takeaways gathered
from design, deployment, or operational experience. The PC will evaluate
these submissions with the understanding that the primary contributions may
be in extending the SIGCOMM community's knowledge of how known techniques
fare when adapted to real-world settings, and particularly in settings that
most in the community cannot duplicate, for reasons of scale or otherwise.
All submissions must be double-blind (not revealing author names), but due
to the nature of experience track submissions, they may reveal the company
or system name.
At paper registration time, authors must explicitly indicate both in their
paper title and submission form if their paper is preferred to be
considered for the experience or regular research track. Each submission
will only be considered for the one track identified at submission time.
The final conference program will not preserve the distinction between the
two tracks.
In addition to the main conference, SIGCOMM 2022 will have a series of
co-located workshops, tutorials, poster and demo sessions, and conference
best paper and SIGCOMM awards.
***Submissions***
Papers submitted to SIGCOMM typically report novel results firmly
substantiated by experimentation, deployment, simulation, or analysis. The
program committee will judge submissions based upon novelty, significance,
correctness, clarity of presentation, and relevance to the SIGCOMM community.
Submissions should be in two-column, 10-point format, and can be up to 12
pages in length with as many additional pages as necessary for references
and optional appendices.
Submissions and final papers may include appendices (following references,
not counting against the 12 pages). Reviewers are not required to read
appendices or consider them in their review. Authors should thus ensure
that the core paper is complete and self-contained. For example, if the
appendix provides details of a proof or experiment, the body should
summarize the key result. Appendices may also include non-traditional
material, such as videos, datasets, and code, all appropriately anonymized.
The review process will involve two rounds. Papers that are not selected
to proceed after the first round will receive early notification, including
reviews.
All accepted papers will be shepherded by a member of the program committee
to ensure the committee's feedback is appropriately addressed. The
shepherd will also review appendices and must approve their necessity.
For accepted papers, the official publication date is the date the
proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library. This date may be
up to two weeks prior to the first day of the conference. The official
publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to
published work. (For those rare conferences whose proceedings are published
in the ACM Digital Library after the conference is over, the official
publication date remains the first day of the conference.)
Detailed submission instructions can be found here -->
https://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2022/submission.html
Submission site: https://sigcomm2022.hotcrp.com
***Artifact Evaluation for Accepted Papers***
The authors of accepted SIGCOMM 2022 papers will be invited to submit
supporting materials to the Artifact Evaluation process. Artifact
Evaluation is run by a separate committee that will assess how well the
submitted artifacts support the work described in the accepted papers.
Participation in Artifact Evaluation is voluntary and has no influence on
the paper's acceptance, but is strongly encouraged. Papers that go through
the Artifact Evaluation process successfully will receive badges printed on
the papers themselves. Additional details on the Artifact Evaluation
process can be found here.
***Public Summaries for Accepted Papers***
The SIGCOMM 2022 program will feature public summaries accompanying each
accepted paper. In most cases, the summary will be written by the paper's
shepherd and will provide an overview of the problem addressed in the paper
and its solution, and highlight interesting future questions that arise.
The summary may additionally explain aspects of the paper the reviewers
particularly liked. Summaries will be published along with the papers in
the ACM Digital Library.
***Ethical Concerns***
All papers must include, in the main body of the paper, a statement about
ethical issues; papers that do not include such a statement may be
rejected. This could be, if appropriate for the paper, simply the sentence
"This work does not raise any ethical issues." If the work involves human
subjects or potentially sensitive data (e.g., user traffic or social
network information, evaluation of censorship, etc.), the paper should
clearly discuss these issues, perhaps in a separate subsection.
Papers must follow basic precepts of ethical research and subscribe to
community norms. These include respect for privacy, secure storage of
sensitive data, voluntary and informed consent if human subjects are
involved or other people are placed at risk, avoiding deceptive practices
when not essential, beneficence (maximizing the benefits to an individual
or to society while minimizing potential harm to an individual), and risk
mitigation. Authors may want to consult the Menlo Report and the ACM ethics
policy for further information on ethical principles, and they may find the
Allman/Paxson paper in IMC 2007 helpful for a perspective on ethical data
sharing.
Many organizations have an ethics review process (sometimes called an
Institutional Review Board, IRB). In some cases, research work may clearly
have no human subjects, and formal institutional review may not be
required. (However, a sentence in the paper stating this evaluation is
still required.) In many cases, IRB involvement is appropriate. IRB
approval of research is an important factor and should be mentioned, but
the program committee will independently evaluate the ethical soundness of
the work just as they evaluate its technical soundness.
The PC takes a broad view of what constitutes an ethical concern, and the
PC chairs may reach out to authors during the review process if questions
arise.

INTRODUCTION
The number of Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices is predicted to reach 38.6
billion by 2025. These connected devices, ranging from user devices to more
complex systems, such as vehicles and power grids, are equipped with
sensing, actuating, communication, processing, and storage capabilities,
and they generate huge amounts of data of various types. However, the need
to operate the scale of heterogeneous IoT devices while being
performance-efficient in real-time is challenging. Typically, the data
generated by the IoT devices are transferred to and processed centrally by
services hosted on geographically distant clouds. This is untenable given
the communication latency incurred and the ingress bandwidth demand.
A new and disruptive paradigm spear-headed by academics and industry
experts is taking shape so that applications can leverage resources located
at the edge of the network and along the continuum between the cloud and
the edge. These edge resources may be geographically or in the network
topology closer to IoT devices, such as home routers, gateways, or more
substantial micro data centers. Edge resources may be used to offload
selected services from the cloud to accelerate an application or to host
edge-native applications. The paradigm within which the edge is harnessed
is referred to as “Fog/Edge computing”.

The Fog/Edge computing paradigm is expected to improve the agility of
service deployments, to allow the usage of opportunistic and cheap
computing, and to leverage the network latency and bandwidth diversities
between these resources. Numerous challenges arise when using edge
resources, which require the re-examination of operating systems,
virtualization and containers, and middleware techniques for fabric
management. New abstractions and extensions to current programming and
storage models are necessary to allow developers to design novel
applications that can benefit from massively distributed and data-driven
edge systems. Addressing security, privacy, and trust of the edge resources
is of paramount importance while managing the resources and context of
mobile, transient and hardware-constrained resources. The integration of
edge computing and 5G will also bring new opportunities and unique
challenges. Enabling machine/deep learning at the edge is critical for many
applications. Lastly, emerging domains like autonomous vehicles and smart
health need to be supported by fog and edge resources.

Dear Colleagues,
The 17th IEEE/IFIP Wireless On-demand Network systems and Services
Conference (WONS) will be held from 30 March - 1 April 2022.
Please see the Call for Papers below and consider submitting your novel
research papers.
*** TWO IMPORTANT UPDATES:***
1) The HARD paper submission deadline is Dec 10, 2021.
2) The authors of selected papers from WONS 2022 edition will be invited
to submit an extended version of their work to Elsevier Computer
Communications (https://www.journals.elsevier.com/computer-communications)
for possible publication in a dedicated Virtual Special Issue (VSI).
***** IMPORTANT CHANGE: HYBRID *****
In view of possible Covid travel restrictions, we have decided that WONS
2022 will be a HYBRID conference: in person and virtual. As part of this
decision, we have extended the deadline until December 10 to accommodate as
many authors and participants as possible.
We are very happy to welcome you in Oppdal, Norway. Based on how Norway has
dealt with the pandemic over the past two years, we are confident that
in-person attendance will be possible for most participants. Please note
that WONS has always been held close to skiing resorts. While skiing is
optional, the long break in the afternoon has always facilitated the
important social aspect of our conference, and we will again plan the
program accordingly.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Wireless on-demand network systems and services have become pivotal in
shaping our future networked world. Starting as a niche application over
Wi-Fi, they can now be found in mainstream technologies like Bluetooth LE,
LTE Direct and Wireless LANs, and have become the cornerstone of upcoming
networking paradigms including mesh and sensor networks, cloud networks,
vehicular networks, disruption tolerant and opportunistic networks, and
in-body networks.
The challenges of this exciting research field are numerous. Examples
include how to make smart use of these novel technologies when multiple
technologies or a mix of permanent services and on-demand networking
opportunities are available to a network node, how to provide robust
services in highly dynamic environments, how to efficiently employ and

Internet of Things (IoT) has been attracting attention due to its economic
impact and high expectations for drastically changing our societies.
Trillion-scale IoT devices including sensors and actuators are being
installed in various “things” such as machines, humans, vehicles,
buildings, and environments. At the same time, we are facing research
challenges on how to effectively, timely and integratedly handle these over
trillion flows (which we call Pervasive Flows) gushed from massive devices
or heterogeneous pervasive systems.
Based on the success of our previous workshops, IFoT 2016, PerFoT 2018 and
2019, and PerFlow 2020 and 2021, the sixth edition, the 2022 International
Workshop on Pervasive Information Flow (PerFlow 2022) aims to present and
discuss research challenges, design/implementations of new architectures,
and experiences on timely processing/distribution of pervasive flows. In
addition, interoperability, integration and coordination among different
applications, services and devices should be discussed for real- world
deployment of pervasive systems handling pervasive flows.
*Topics of the Workshop
We solicit technical papers describing original, previously unpublished
research, not currently under review by another conference or journal.
Submissions should clearly identify how they relate to issues on pervasive
flows gushed from various things. Contributions describing an overall
working system and reporting real world deployment experiences are
particularly of interest.
Topics of this workshop include, but are not limited to:
- IoT Device Collaboration and Orchestration
- Mobile Data Offloading
