Call for Demos
The 46th Annual IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN 2020)
October 4-7, 2021
http://www.ieeelcn.org
Consider a virtual demo as an opportunity to showcase your work in a way
that was not possible in physical meetings or would have required to travel
with a lot of gear. We will do our best to accommodate demo author needs to
present and discuss the demo virtually.
## Scope
IEEE LCN 2021 will feature a demo session with the aim of providing
demonstrations that validate important research issues and/or show innovative
prototypes. Authors are invited to submit technical demonstrations (no more
than 3 pages) showing
innovative and original research. The authors are encouraged to highlight
the research component
of the demo and explicitly mention the novelty of the showcased technology/
solution. The proposal should include one page that describes
what conference participants will be able to see or experience during the
demonstration.
IEEE LCN is looking for demonstrations in all topics covered by the main
conference and/or the symposium held in conjunction with LCN 2021. Research
prototypes as well as commercial products are welcome.
## Demo Submission
Proposals (no more than 3 pages) must be submitted via EDAS to the LCN Demo
Track: https://edas.info/newPaper.php?c(077&track7632
Demonstrations will be selected based on their merits and expected interest
from the LCN audience. All demo proposals will be reviewed by the members
of the Demo Board via an
EDAS score sheet. The scores will be provided to the authors along with the
notification.
## Virtual Demo Presentation
Demo presentations will be organised as parallel dedicated virtual rooms
for each demo similar to a face-to-face demo session. Demo presenters will
have the opportunity to perform live demos while also answering questions
from the audience. In addition, authors of accepted demos will also be
asked to record a video to best showcase the demo which will be available
for attendees during the conference.
* A best demo award will be awarded to the demo with the most votes from
the audience.
## Important Dates
Demo Submission: Aug 16, 2021
Demo Acceptance: Sep 6, 2021
Demo Camera Ready: Sep 20, 2021
## Registration for Demos
For conference registration, a demo is not regarded as a paper, i.e.,
* demo presenters with no accepted conference or symposium papers must select
"non-author registration" when registering for the conference
* demo presenters with accepted LCN or symposium papers incur no extra charge
for a demo. The conference registration will cover their demo.

Please not that Netsys recently changed its format to a virtual conference.
Call for NetSys 2021 PhD Forum
The hidden secrets when doing your PhD
Thursday, September 16, 2021 - virtually via video conference
https://netsys2021.org/phd-forum/
The PhD Forum at the Networked Systems 2021 follows the tradition and
format of similar events at international conferences such as ICNP,
PerCom, or UbiComp. It should provide PhD students in any phase of their
career with an opportunity to discuss the hidden secrets behind doing a PhD
and general career advice – topics that are rarely openly discussed (e.g.,
finding research problems, managing your supervisor, …) - during the PhD
Forum on Thursday.
*What can I Expect?*
*PhD Forum: The hidden secrets when doing your PhD*
This is a dedicated meeting on Thursday after the main conference, full
of discussions and fun with your direct peers and us. The aim of the PhD
Forum is the discussion of meta aspects and experiences regarding a PhD
– the hidden secrets when doing your PhD and general career advice.
Potential topics will be:
- Deep PhD study in the time of digital distraction
- Having a family + doing a PhD – are you crazy?
- Continuously improving my skills: e.g., speed reading and ultra learning
- Doctoral supervision: being supervised and being a supervisor
- Best paper stories: targeting high and being rejected
- Academic peer review: what are factors that determine paper acceptance
/ rejection and why are some of them random?
- How dare you to steal my contributions?! Working in teams and writing
a PhD thesis
- Working internationally
- Becoming a team leader and how to find good students
- Hints on writing papers and making presentations – please don’t overload
To tailor the discussion of meta aspects to your interest, attendance
requires the submission of input in advance (e.g., questions on which we
will organize the day) mentioned in the call below.
As done at NetSys 2019, we will also invite keynote speakers who will
report about their research journey from a PhD student to a leading expert.
*Call PhD Forum attendance:*
This concerns discussing meta aspects concerning the PhD process (e.g.,
research, publication strategies, time management, …).
*What to submit:* Prospective participants should prepare an application
that includes the following information:
- Curriculum Vitae: a brief CV that lists the education and research
interests of the PhD student.
- A motivational letter (~1 page): the motivational letter should
discuss the following aspects in the following order:
- Motivation: why do do want to attend the PhD Forum and what do you
expect from it? (1 paragraph)
- Your research area and the specific problem that you would think to
work on. (1 paragraph)
- Questions you would like to discuss at the PhD Forum (e.g., how to
find a good research problem, how to manage time, how to manage your
supervisor, …). We will structure the PhD Forum on Monday around
discussing your questions (>3 questions)
Submission should be done electronically as PDF, via
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=netsys2021
Please select the *PhD Forum Track* in Easychair.
We will limit the number of participants to be able to discuss
interactively with you. The selection criteria for participation will,
among others, also include the upload time (first come, first serve :)
*Important Dates:*
*Call PhD Forum submissions*
Registration & submission: *Friday, July 23, 2021*
Notification of acceptance: Friday, July 30, 2021
PhD Forum: Thursday, September 16, 2021

[Submission Deadline: Aug. 1][10+ Special Issues] CFP IEEE DependSys 2021:
The 7th IEEE International Conference on Dependability in Sensor, Cloud,
and Big Data Systems and Applications, Dec. 17-19, Haikou, China
http://www.ieee-cybermatics.org/2021/dependsys/
IEEE DependSys 2021 conference is the 7th event in the series of
conferences which offers a timely venue for bringing together new ideas,
techniques, and solutions for dependability and its issues in sensor,
cloud, and big data systems and applications. As we are deep into the
Information Age, huge amounts of data are generated every day from sensors,
individual archives, social networks, Internet of Things, enterprises and
Internet in various scales and format which will pose a major challenge to
the dependability of our designed systems. As these systems often tend to
become inert, fragile, and vulnerable after a period of running.
Effectively improving the dependability of sensor, cloud, big data systems
and applications has become increasingly critical.
This conference provides a forum for individuals, academics, practitioners,
and organizations who are developing or procuring sophisticated computer
systems on whose dependability of services they need to place great
confidence. Future systems need to close the dependability gap in face of
challenges in different circumstances. The emphasis will be on differing
properties of such services, e.g., continuity, effective performance,
real-time responsiveness, ability to overcome data fault, corruption,
anomaly, ability to avoid catastrophic failures, prevention of deliberate
privacy intrusions, reliability, availability, sustainability,
adaptability, heterogeneity, security, safety, and so on.
=============================================================================
IEEE DependSys 2021 is sponsored by IEEE, IEEE Computer Society, and IEEE
Technical Committee on Scalable Computing (TCSC). All accepted papers will
be submitted to IEEE Xplore and Engineering Index (EI). Best Paper Awards
will be presented to high quality papers. Distinguished papers, after
further revisions, will be published in 10+ SCI & EI indexed prestigious
journals (confirmed).
