SCOPE AND OBJECTIVES
Vehicular Ad hoc NETworks (VANETs) consider vehicle-to-vehicle as well as vehicle-to-infrastructure communications, in order
to provide the drivers with novel services, such as collision avoidance and safety warnings, real-time traffic information or even
high-speed toll collection and mobile infotainment. VANETs have rapidly emerged and raised novel research challenges such
as designing networking protocols adapted to high speed environments or realistic simulation environments.
This DIVANet'2012 session aims to provide researchers and practitioners with a venue to disseminate and share state-of-the-art
research on vehicular networks modeling, optimization, simulation, prototyping and testbeds.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Simulation frameworks
* Performance analysis and evaluation of VANETs services
* Network management
* Mobility modeling, management and optimization
* Mobility prediction and control
* Traffic modeling, management and optimization
* Power control and scalability issues
* Multi-channel organization and operation
* Channel modeling
* Modulation and coding
* Communication protocol design and optimization
* Vehicle-to-vehicle/roadside/back-office communication
* Cross-layer design
* Validation through measurement and prototyping
* Innovative measurement methodologies and tools
* Experiences/lessons from recent testbed deployments and measurements
* Field operational testing
* Prototype implementation of vehicular ad hoc networks and systems;

Communications (GreenCom)
These conferences will provide a high-profile, leading-edge forum for
researchers, engineers and practitioners to present state-of-art
advances and innovations in theoretical foundations, systems,
infrastructure, tools, testbeds, and applications for the internet of
things, cyber, physical and social computing, and green
communications, as well as to identify emerging research topics and
define the future ones.
iThings: The Internet of Things (iThings) is a network of
Internet-enabled objects, which aims at increasing the ubiquity of the
Internet by integrating every object for interaction via embedded
systems and leads to the highly distributed network of devices
communicating with human beings as well as other devices. By combining
the infrastructures of heterogeneous networks including Internet and
mobile networks, these objects can communicate with humans, and enable
people to monitor and control them and enjoy their intelligent
services at anytime and anywhere.
CPSCom: topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to:
- Cyber-physical systems and society
- Social computing
- Pervasive/ubiquitous computing
- Sensor/actuator networks
- Security, privacy, and trust
- Applications and services
GreenCom: Computers, communication systems and other IT infrastructure
have been posing severe environmental problems by consuming
significant amounts of electricity, increasing greenhouse gas
emissions, and causing pollution during their production and disposal.
To reduce these environmental problems and create a sustainable
environment, new models, algorithms, methodologies, tools and systems
are needed so as to generate green IT systems with high energy
efficiency, low greenhouse gas emissions, less harmful materials and
easily being reused and recycled.
Authors are invited to submit original papers that MUST NOT have been
submitted to or published in any other workshop, conference, or
journal. All papers must be written in English and submitted
electronically through the Web site. For more information please see
the Web page.
Each submission should be regarded as a commitment to honour that, if
the paper is accepted, at least one of the authors must attend the
conference to present the work in order for the paper to be included
in the IEEE Digital Library. Accepted papers will be published in the
proceedings of iThings 2011 by IEEE Computer Society (EI indexed).
Extended versions of selected papers will be considered for
publication in several SCI-index international journals (check the Web
site for details).

European Workshop on Software Defined Networks (EWSDN-2012)
http://ewsdn.eu
The European Workshop on Software Defined Networks will be held on
October 25-26, 2012 in Deutsche Telekom Campus, Darmstadt, Germany (15
minutes from Frankfurt Airport)
*SDN*
Software Defined Networking (SDN) is emerging as a promising
architectural solution to support and foster innovation in
telecommunication networks. Several switch/router vendors are “opening”
their hardware, offering APIs to allow a “software defined” control of
the networking operations. The vitality of the SDN approach is witnessed
by the release of several SDN tools and development environments, most
of which are open sourced.
*OpenFlow*
The OpenFlow specifications, now standardized by the Open Networking
Foundation, can represent a key component in a SDN architecture, but the
SDN scope and concept is much wider than the OpenFlow APIs. In
particular there is the need of higher level SDN abstractions and higher
level SDN APIs, as the ones that should be offered to applications (e.g.
SDN “north-bound” interfaces).
*European*
What makes an SDN workshop “European”? Traditional strengths of European
research and development have been in optical transmission and wireless,
especially cellular networks. The workshop emphasizes aspects of
Software Defined Networks that come up when extending SDN 'beyond
Ethernet'. In this regard, “European” does not mean that we restrict to
a geographic scope, we welcome contribution and participation from all
over the world.
*Motivation*
One goal of the workshop is to bring together industry and academia on
the topics of SDN, in particular the workshop will feature an “industry
forum”, i.e. a session with presentations of key industrial players
(manufacturers, telecom operators, ...).
A special session will include presentation and discussion of the
highest ranked proposals to the 2nd open call of the OFELIA project
(http://www.fp7-ofelia.eu/open-calls/2nd-open-call/).
*Contributions to the workshop*
We are interested in both papers showing consolidated results and in
position papers bringing up innovative ideas. We welcome contributions
including, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Optical extensions to OpenFlow, SDN
- Wireless integration, characterization of wireless interfaces, flows,
handover support
- Evolved packet core, LTE support for OpenFlow
- New controller architectures, Application Programmer's Interfaces, SDN
“north-bound” interfaces
- Higher level SDN abstractions, APIs, object models
- New networking paradigms like Content or Information Centric Networks
(CCN/ICN) and their relation with SDN
- Carrier-grade SDN architectures and equipment
- Network Virtualization techniques based on SDN
- Practical experiments on OpenFlow / SDN based testbeds
- Identification of use cases for SDN, SDN related business models
- SDN frameworks and tools, SDN based equipment: controllers, switches,
integrated development environment, testing and debugging environment
*Workshop Proceedings*
The EWSDN Workshop proceedings will be published in IEEE Xplore.
