Synopsis
Scalability is a primary consideration in the design and implementation of
computing and communication systems. The rapid increase in the volume of
information that needs to be processed by computers necessitates new
architectures, software, algorithms, and tools to improve scalability.
ScalCom-12 aims at providing an international forum for researchers and
practitioners to discuss original ideas on all aspects of scalability in
computing. ScalCom-12 is soliciting original, previously unpublished work
addressing research challenges and presenting advances in the design and
implementation of scalable computing and communication systems.
Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
Ÿ Scalable modeling and simulation
Ÿ Data intensive computing
Ÿ Multi-core and computer architectures
Ÿ Cluster, Grid and Cloud computing
Ÿ Scalable algorithms
Ÿ Scalable networks:
Ÿ Scalable service computing
Ÿ Scalable databases

IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications Special issue on
“Signal Processing Techniques for Wireless Physical Layer Security”
The emergence of large-scale, dynamic, and decentralized wireless
networks imposes new challenges on classical security measures such as
cryptography. To this end, researchers have sought novel information
theoretic techniques that can secure wireless networks without the
need for secret keys. One of the most promising ideas is to exploit
the wireless channel physical layer characteristics such as fading or
noise, which are traditionally seen as impediments, for improving the
reliability of wireless transmission against eavesdropping attacks.
Physical layer security has emerged as a key technique for providing
trustworthy and reliable future wireless networks and has witnessed a
significant growth in the past few years.
To this end, this special issue aims to gather cutting-edge
contributions from academia and industry that address and show the
latest results on securing wireless networks at the physical layer.
This special issue has a particular emphasis on advanced signal
processing, information theoretic, and communication techniques that

Dear SIGCOMM Community Members:
This is the June 2012 List Digest. If you want an announcement
relevant to the computer networks research community to appear in this
forum, please send me a message before the 1st of each month.
MAILING LIST POLICIES: This mailing list is for disseminating information
of interest to the general SIGCOMM membership. To keep information content
high and scope narrow, direct posts are restricted to events that are
sponsored by SIGCOMM. Due to the wide variety of topics in networking, it
focuses on relatively "mainstream" networking conferences and workshops.
In particular, due to the large number of venues in the wireless, mobile,
ad-hoc, and sensor areas, unless an event is sponsored or in-cooperation
with SIGCOMM, we do not advertize those topics, since there are many other
mechanisms and communities for doing so.
SENDING ME MAIL: This email address gets about 2500 emails a month, 99.999
percent of which is SPAM. please put [SIGCOMM] at the beginning of
the Subject: header, otherwise I will not see it.
SENDING TO THE MAILING LIST: This is a moderated mailing list that requires
my approval to post. Again, due to spam, I don't approve requests to post
to the list. Instead, send the request to me as described above.

Wireless communication for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) is
a promising technology to
improve safety and security for all transport modes, to reduce traffic
congestion, to optimize
the use of existing infrastructures (road, rail maritime, fluvial) and
support information services
in vehicles with the general purpose of reducing the impact of
transport on the environment. The
development of sustainable mobility is a key challenge for the
development of urban areas. A new
era of vehicular technology that includes vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and
vehicle-to-infrastructure
(V2I) communication is already there in the public transport domain
and this should be generalized.
This era will be driven by both (pre-competitive) public-sector and
private-sector funding. Safety-
related applications are not only taken into consideration, but
non-safety multimedia content
providers are also becoming a new topic of research. Key players in
the industry, such as automotive
companies, public transport operators, railway industries and
government agencies, are investing
heavily in the advanced research and development of many ITS
technologies and applications. This
research effort primarily focuses on the system development and
standardization of telematics.
During recent ITS developments, transportation telematics techniques
have exhibited much progress,
e.g., interaction between vehicles and the infrastructure for
delivering services such as road-side
assistance, automatic crash notification, concierge assistance and
vehicle condition reports. These
progresses are also really important in the public transport domain
(buses, metro, trains, tramways)
for which V2V and V2I for safety and non safety applications are a key
component for the exploitation
but also for reducing energy consumption. A number of IEEE
802.11p-like equipment prototypes have been
built, and several technical reports based on field trials have
demonstrated the lack of cutting-edge
techniques to improve system performance. Furthermore, all these
applications require accurate and
reliable positioning using GNSS solutions alone or enhanced with
map-matching and sensors fusion.
Technology and applications for ITS and telematics design are rapidly
emerging, and there is a critical
need to bring together professional researchers, intelligent
engineers, academia, industry, standard
committees, the private sector and the public sector to exchange new
ideas. This conference aims to
spur research progress by serving as a forum in which both academia
and industry can share experiences
and report original work regarding all aspects of vehicular
communication, e.g., Vehicular Ad hoc Networks
(VANETs), cooperative systems, information dissemination, road and
rail safety, information and emergency
services, etc. Our primary goal is to promote meaningful research in
the cross-layered design of
architectures, algorithms and applications for vehicular communication
environments in all transport modes.

Submissions: Email to workshops(a)auto-ui.org<mailto:workshops@auto-ui.org>
The successful workshop day at AutomotiveUI'11 with over 75 participants was highly encouraging and we will continue with this submission category. These workshops provide an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to discuss themes of common interest in a less formal setting. We are open to all topic areas, but do encourage workshop proposals covering emerging and future trends in the field.
The proposed workshop should consider topics that can move the field forward and suggest promising new research directions. We accept proposals for full day (~6 hours) or half day (3-4 hours, morning or afternoon) workshops. If the proposal is accepted, the workshop is publicized as part of the conference. The criteria, reviewing and acceptance will be handled by the workshop organizers. Workshops are only open to people accepted by the workshop organizers and who register for the main conference (workshop participation itself is free of charge).
Workshop proposals should be submitted as 4 page (maximum) write-ups. Please format your abstract according to the ACM SIGCHI format. Proposals must contain the following:
-general goal of the workshop
-topics of interest
