> The International Conference on Information Processing in Sensor Networks (IPSN 2012) draws upon many disciplines including networking, signal and image processing, information and coding theory, databases, information management, distributed algorithms, embedded systems, wireless communications, and machine learning. In addition to full-length technical papers, IPSN is very interested in showcasing demonstrations of novel sensor network technology, applications, and hardware as well as posters showing exciting early work. Abstracts of accepted posters and demos will appear in the regular conference proceedings. Submissions will be evaluated based on technical merit and innovation as well as their potential to stimulate interesting discussions and exchange of ideas at the conference. The content should be a two-page abstract in PDF format that follows the IPSN regular-paper formatting guidelines; please refer to the IPSN regular-paper submission instructions for details. IPSN encourages both academic and industrial submissions. The poster and demo session does not distinguish between the IP track and the SPOTS track; submissions of interest to both tracks are welcome.

>
>
> DEMOS
>
> Demo abstracts should describe both the technology being showcased as well as the user experience of the demo. A table, power, and wireless connectivity will be provided for each demo. If a demonstration requires special arrangements in addition to the above, please describe them clearly in the demo abstract submission.
>
> If you have any questions, please contact the IPSN 2012 demo chair: Xiaofan Jiang <fxjiang(a)microsoft.com>
>
>
>
> POSTERS
>
> A poster should report on research for which at least preliminary results are available, and need not describe completed work. An easel will be provided for all posters.
>
> If you have any questions, please contact the IPSN 2012 poster chair: Pei Zhang <peizhang(a)cmu.edu>

Special Issue on Simulation-based Performance Evaluation of
Infrastructures for the Internet of Things: Connectivity and resource
considerations
in the mobility Era
Call for Papers
----------------
Smart wireless devices that are configured to communicate in a Mobile
Peer-to-Peer (MP2P) manner will be soon able to have integrated features
hosting all kinds of daily needs’ applications, in a 3A (Anything,
Anytime, Anywhere) reliable configuration, and interact with one another
using
multiplatform applications. These advancements create the need of the
development of a supportive infrastructure and network architecture that
will enable the realization of the Internet of Things (IoT) which will
be able to host real-time applications in a resource and energy
efficient reliable way.
The IoT realizes its potential in the context of a global communications
platform that can be used by millions of independent devices co-operating
together in large or small combinations, and in shared or separated
federations. It involves connected embedded-devices such as sensors, home
appliances, weather stations and even movable objects (such as toys,
wearable devices-objects etc) to Internet Protocol (IP)-based networks.
This Special Issue addresses the trend in both science and industry for
smart embedded devices (smart objects) to become IP-enabled, as well
as the latest frontier of the Internet, consisting of wireless low-power
embedded devices-called the Wireless Embedded Internet. It also targets the
development and implementation of new fundamental architectures for the
efficient support of IoT technologies, where many resource limitations
can be faced and various network mechanisms will be optimized by
providing new middleware architectures that will face
application-specific issues.
Additionally the Special Issue aims to present novel middleware
architectures and techniques for optimizing the power consumption,
connectivity and
reliability aspects, as well as aims to propose new models for capacity
and data flow management for providing sufficient end-to-end resource
management.
Performance evaluation can be performed using simulation in order to
evaluate the performance under different efficiency angles. With
modeling and
simulation the dynamically changing IoT environments, can be further
analyzed and explored by utilizing computational and mathematical
techniques,
while creating a model construct of a conceptual framework that
describes an IoT system.

Special Issue on Reactive Sensor Networks
Scope
A common assumption in Wireless Sensor Networks is that they comprise
resource-constrained static nodes which sense their environment and then
send their measurements to a central base station through mutihop routing.
Soon, it was realized that this network organization leads to rapid energy
exhaustion of sensors around the base station since these nodes should relay
all the traffic destined for the base station. In addition, the passive
nature of static sensors which can only sense and are unable to move is not
always helpful in target-tracking scenarios or in cases where real-time
action is necessary for handling emergency situations. Apparently, a
reactive (dynamic) behavior from these networks would be effective for
dealing with a number of changing operational conditions (e.g. node
failures, energy exhaustion in some nodes) or with real-time events.
This Special Issue will focus on all forms of reactive behavior that can be
incorporated in the functionality of a Wireless Sensor Network and will also
identify new possibilities, opportunities and challenges deriving from this
new paradigm. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
-Sink mobility in Wireless Sensor Networks
-Wireless Sensor Actuator Networks
-Wireless Sensor Networks with mobile sensors
-Re-tasking in Wireless Sensor Networks
-Mobile agent based solutions in Wireless Sensor Networks
-Node redeployment techniques in Wireless Sensor Networks for improved
connectivity and/or coverage
-Re-clustering techniques in Wireless Sensor Networks
-Dynamic MAC and routing protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks for increased
network lifetime
-Reactive methods in Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks
-Reactive methods for target tracking in Wireless Sensor Networks
-Dynamic techniques for data aggregation/fusion in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Security, trust and privacy in Reactive Sensor Networks

History
During ICDCS-2003 (Providence, RI), Ivan Stojmenovic and Jingyuan Zhang
have
organized a workshop called MWN (Workshop on Mobile and Wireless Networks).
A total of 60 papers from 17 different countries had been submitted to the
workshop. A total of 32 papers were selected for presentation.
Approximately
half of the papers were dealing with wireless ad hoc networks, which is why
subsequent workshops were focusing specifically on wireless ad hoc networks.
WWAN2004 was held during ICDCS-2004 (Tokyo, Japan); it was organized by
David Simplot-Ryl and Ivan Stojmenovic. In response to the Call for Papers,
42 papers from 20 different countries had been submitted, 21 of which were
selected for presentation at WWAN 2004.
WWAN2005 was held during ICDCS-2005 (Columbus, OH); it was organized by
David Simplot-Ryl and Ivan Stojmenovic. In response to the Call for Papers,
thirty papers from twelve different countries had been submitted, and
twelve
best ones have been selected for inclusion in the workshop.
WWASN2006 was held in conjunction with ICDCS2006 in Lisbon, Portugal, with
13 papers accepted out of 26 submitted; it added Sensor Networks as one of
its main foci. In addition to the more traditional areas of routing,
topology control, and coverage, the scope of the submissions has also
included issues related to mobility, applications, and security.
WWASN2007 was held in conjunction with ICDCS2007 in Toronto, ON, with 12
papers accepted out of 33 submissions. It also featured a keynote speech by
Dr. Sharokh Valaee of University of Toronto.
WWASN2008 was held during ICDCS2008 in Beijing, China, with 15 papers
accepted out of 33 submissions.
WWASN2009 was held during ICDCS2009 in Montreal, Canada, in June 2009, with
17 papers accepted out of 37 submissions.
WWASN2010 was held during ICDCS2010 in Genoa, Italy, with 12 papers
accepted
out of 30+ submissions.
WWASN2011 was held during ICDCS2011 in Minneapolis, MN, with 9 papers
accepted from nearly 30 submissions, and a keynote speech by Dr. Tian He
from University of Minnesota.

Overview
--------
Broadband wireless mobile communications data traffic is rapidly growing
to provide data services for devices such as tablets, smartphones and
laptops. However, for many operators, growth in traffic is not match by
the same growth in revenue. There is an increasing awareness of the
environmental impact of both wireless networks and the Internet in
general. Many operators have thus made commitments to reduce the Carbon
Dioxide (CO2) emissions associated with their networks.
The objective of this workshop is to build on the success of the first
two Greenet workshops to discuss these issues in detail. One major area
where advances may be made is in moving towards more energy efficient
network deployments which employ a mix of network components, such as
macro-cell base stations, relays, picocells and femtocells to provide
coverage and support high traffic demands. A second important avenue of
research relates to new technologies and algorithms that can be deployed
within the radio of each device to reduce energy consumption. This
workshop particularly encourages contributions with blue sky thinking on
how future technologies can be substantially more energy efficient than
current systems.
We invite five page paper submissions not previously published and are
not currently under review for publication from researchers and
practitioners active in the field of Green Wireless Communications and
Networks covering (but not limited to) the following topics:
1. Energy Efficient Network design
- Efficient network architectures
- Heterogeneous networks
- Network traffic engineering and QoS support
- Network operation and management
2. Enabling technologies
- Physical layer techniques
- MAC protocols
- Cross-layer optimization
- Cognitive networks
3. Network components and devices
- Low power devices
- User terminal designs
- Base station hardware architectures
- Power management for user terminals and network devices
4. Applications and services of wireless technologies
- Wireless smart grid and energy management concepts
- Wireless networking for home working/smart office
- Machine-to-machine communications
- Regulatory issues
- New topics for standardisation

Future Energy Systems:
Where Energy, Computing and Communication Meet
May 9-11, 2012 -- Madrid, Spain
http://e-energy2012.networks.imdea.org/
in cooperation with ACM SIGCOMM
------------------------------------------------------------------------
e-Energy is the conference on future energy systems, where energy,
computing and communication meet. The first e-Energy conference was
held in April 2010, in Passau (Germany), and the second took place
in May/June 2011 at Columbia University, in New York City (USA).
e-Energy 2012 invites submission of two categories of paper: full
papers and discussion papers. Full papers should be no longer than 10
pages and discussion papers should be no longer than 4 pages. All
papers must present original theoretical and/or experimental research
that has not been previously published, accepted for publication, or is
not currently under review by another conference or journal.
Submissions must be in PDF-format using the double-column ACM format
given at http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates
Further submission information can be accessed via
http://events.networks.imdea.org/content/e-energy-2012/paper-submission
Proceedings will be published by ACM and appear in the ACM Digital Library.
Full papers should include a detailed description of research either
in progress or completed. A discussion paper describes innovative and
novel ideas that have not yet been fully explored, but have the
potential to influence the research community. A discussion paper
could, for example, expose a new problem, advocate a new approach,
re-frame or debunk existing work, report unexpected results from a
deployment, or propose new evaluation methodologies. We especially
encourage submissions of early-stage work and enticing but unproven
ideas.
