CALL FOR PAPERS
For the reliable performance evaluation of protocols, systems and
algorithms in
ad hoc, sensor, and mesh networks, realistic models and credible simulation
scenarios are crucial. It has been shown that simplistic models for
mobility,
traffic, and/or signal propagation yield results that are not accurate. To
increase the credibility of our models, traces from specific scenarios
need to
be acquired and used in the development and validation of realistic
scenario models.
This special issue intends to disseminate the latest research results in
this
important research area, by providing an overview of the current
state-of-the-art scenario models and methodologies for model validation and
credible performance evaluation for ad hoc networks. To this purpose, we are
seeking high-quality papers reporting original research results.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
includes but is not limited to:
* Classification of scenarios
* Challenges in trace acquisition
* Tools for mobility, traffic and propagation modeling
* Methods in localization and tracking to acquire accurate movement
traces
* Movement trace measurement architectures
* Characterization of movement traces
* Mobility modeling
* Validation of mobility models
* Traffic measurement, traffic characterization, traffic modeling
* Combined mobility and traffic modeling
* Characterization of signal propagation
* Propagation modeling
* Impact of mobility on radio characterization
* Impact of scenario modeling on performance
IMPORTANT DATES:
Paper submission deadline: Aug. 29th, 2011
Notification of acceptance: Nov. 30th, 2011
Camera-ready paper due: Jan. 31st, 2012
SUBMISSION FORMAT AND GUIDELINE:
All submitted papers must be clearly written in excellent English and
contain
only original work, which has not been published by or is currently
under review
for any other journal or conference. Papers must not exceed 25 pages
(one-column, at least 11pt fonts) including figures, tables, and references.
A detailed submission guideline is available as "Guide to Authors" at
www.elsevier.com/locate/adhoc.
All manuscripts and any supplementary material should be submitted through
Elsevier Editorial System (EES). The authors must select as "SI –
SCENES" when
they reach the "Article Type" step in the submission process.
The EES website is located at: http://ees.elsevier.com/adhoc/
All papers will be peer-reviewed by three independent reviewers.
Requests for
additional information should be addressed to the guest editors.

PAM 2012: CALL FOR PAPERS -- Second Announcement
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Passive and Active Measurement (PAM) Conference 2012
VIENNA, AUSTRIA, MARCH 12-14, 2012
http://pam2012.ftw.at/
The PAM conference has in the past focused on research and practical
applications of network measurement and analysis techniques. However
this year PAM is broadening its scope based upon numerous trends in this
area. The scope of network measurements today goes well beyond the
traditional Layer-3 and encompasses measurements in any type of
networked environment --- networked applications, content distribution
networks, online social networks, overlay networks, and more.
Measurement technology is needed at all layers of the stack: for power
profiling of hardware components, at the MAC/network/transport layers,
as well as up the stack for application profiling and even to collect
user feedback. Measurements technologies are being designed for the
digital home, residential access networks, wireless and mobile access,
enterprise, ISP and data center networks. In recognition of these
trends, PAM is encouraging submission on a broad set of topics. We aim
to understand the role that measurement techniques can play in networked
environments and applications, across different layers, and how they can
serve as critical building blocks for broader measurement needs. At the
same time, PAM also continues with its original goal, to expand the
techniques, tools and practical uses of network measurement technology.
PAM seeks to bring together both the research and operation communities,
and encourages submission of early stage research. Original papers are
invited, but not limited to, the following topics:
• Passive and Active Measurement Tools: Techniques, Design and Experience
• Characterization studies of network usage and networked applications
• Measurements of social networks, game networks and networked services
at large.
• Correlating measurements across multiple layers
• Combining measurements from a network and end-terminals
• Measurement oriented to End-user Perception and Quality of Experience
• Measurements for Security and Privacy
• Distributed and Inter-domain measurements
• Network and System Troubleshooting using Measurements
• Metrics and measurements of resilience and dependability
• Measurement technology for software-based routers
• Assessing Data Center Networks and Cloud Services
• Measurements in Home Networks
• Measurement Visualization
• Deployment and operation of Measurement Infrastructure
• New Measurement Initiatives
• Reassessing Previous Measurement Methodology and Results
• Performance Metrics and Traffic Analysis
• Measurement Data Management

============================================================
This session will focus on state-of-the-art technologies for information
dissemination in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure
(V2I) networks. There is growing interest in using V2V or V2I
communications to enable ITS (Intelligent Transport System) services
which can range from time-critical safety services, traffic management,
to infotainment and local advertising services. How to effectively and
efficiently disseminate information in a timely and reliable manner is
critical to ITS services. However, the unique characteristics of vehicle
networks present challenges in achieving service performance. Applicable
information dissemination technologies may include delay tolerant
approaches, data aggregation methods and routing schemes to mitigate
congestion on the wireless medium, maintain network connectivity and
improve overall communication performance. The impact and significance
of such technologies for varying degrees of V2V and V2I connectivity and
for va
rying deployment scenarios are also critical. This session seeks to
provide a forum to present and discuss original relevant research results.

2nd Call for Papers
2nd IEEE International Workshop on Consumer eHealth Platforms, Services
and Applications (CeHPSA)
14th January 2012, Las Vegas, Nevada
Satellite Workshop of 9th IEEE Consumer Communications & Networking
Conference
Goals and Topics
Healthcare globally is going through a major transition that promises to
provide the unprecedented delivery of services in new and novel ways.
Medical infrastructures, built on advances in information and
communication technologies (ICT), aim to fully distribute services in a
much more flexible way. This will enable the seamless flow of
information within and amongst medical facilities, practitioners and
service users. ICT will ensure that services are highly available and
provide enriched information. Multiple modes of interaction will be
possible and this will all happen regardless of a user’s location or the
devices they use. This vision is commonly referred to as eHealth and is
one of the most rapidly growing areas in health today with an estimated
annual budget of Euros 17.4 billion in Europe and $36 billion in the US.
The drive towards this growth in interest can be directly attributed to
the fact that healthcare is becoming increasingly more difficult to
sustain because of the rising costs associated with people living longer
and an increase in diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. This
presents a unique opportunity to develop new and novel platforms
services and applications that exploit information within and across the
healthcare sector to significantly improve the quality of patient care
and improve and execute clinical processes more efficiently. This will
help to form a closer relationship between healthcare providers and
service users and fundamentally help support people in their daily
lives. Furthermore, it addresses the growing problem of healthcare
seclusion amongst rural areas and low-income nations where they too,
through eHealth, can benefit from life-critical information, help,
support and training. All this has the ability to empower people and
encourage personal consumer healthcare beyond what is currently possible.
Nonetheless, due to the potential criticality of healthcare and the
complex coordination and delivery of healthcare services it is not
surprising that we have not seen widespread adoption of ICT in health.
Yet eHealth presents a unique and high impacting application of ICT. The
healthcare domain is sensitive to change and this will require new
processes, methodologies and tools and this comes at a time where
sustainable health is becoming increasingly more difficult. The workshop
seeks workshop proposal submissions (consisting of a paper) on all
theoretical and practical aspects of next generation consumer eHealth
platforms, services and applications, as well as experimental studies of
fielded systems on topics including, but not limited to, those shown below:
* Wearable and implantable sensors

CALL FOR PAPERS
Elsevier Journal of Ad Hoc Networks(
http://www.elsevier.com/locate/adhocSCI Indexed, 2010 Impact Factor:
1.592)
Special Issue of Ad Hoc Networks on Recent Advances in Vehicular
Communications and Networking
The pdf version of this CFP is available at
http://www.elsevierscitech.com/dronsite/cfp/CFPRecentAdvances_VehicularComm…
OR at http://www.wireless-communications.net
-----------------------
OVERVIEW:
-----------------------
Vehicular communication for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) plays
an increasingly important role in people’s lives since it provides safety as
well as comfort for passengers and enables more efficient travel by
providing timely information to operators of vehicles and concerned
authorities. As a result, there will be a strong demand for wireless
communications and networking to provide information as well as onboard
entertainment services to passengers and driver. Vehicular communication is
expected to implement a variety of wired and wireless technologies for
Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Roadside (V2R) communications. In
Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) for V2V systems, communication may
experience serious deterioration due to the lack of accurate channel state
information and advanced radio-resource-allocation schemes to assign
wireless resources to high-speed vehicles. Moreover, communication among
high-speed vehicles through cellular communication networks causes frequent
handovers and drop-offs resulting in degradation in overall system
performance. This motivates researchers to design innovative resource
allocation techniques and robust, as well as, fast handover schemes for
dynamically changing topologies of VANETs. In VANETs for V2V communications,
trust, security, privacy, and reliable routing are major concerns since the
network topology changes constantly. Furthermore, physical layer design
issues for wireless communications in high-speed mobile environments are
also of vital importance to realize its full potential for ITS. All in all,
vehicular communications with dynamically changing topologies is a demanding
research topic. The goal of this issue is to bring together the state of the
art research contributions that focus on vehicular communications and
networking.
In particular, the topics of interest include but are not limited to
· Physical Layer and Propagation Models.
· Radio Resource and Interference Management.
· Medium Access Control and Routing Protocols.
· Information Aggregation and Dissemination.
· Positioning and Location Technologies.
· Sensor Technologies for VANETs.
· Drive-Through Internet and Roadside Infrastructures.
· Incident Detection for VANETs.
· Trust, Security, and Privacy Issues.
· Fast and Reliable Handover and Mobility Management
· Vehicle Traffic Models.
· Heterogeneous Networking.
· Cellular and Satellite Communications for Vehicular Networking.
· Cross-Layer Designs and Architectures.
· Game Theory Based Protocols and Algorithms.
· Green Vehicular Communications and Networking.
· Cloud-Based Vehicular Communications and Networking.
· Standardization and Development, such as WAVE/DSRC/802.11p
· Applications, Case Studies, and Real-World Test Beds.
· Business Models and Policies.

Call-for-Papers
1st Annual Workshop on Multimedia Communications over Emerging Networks
2012 (MCEN’12)
In conjunction with 9th Annual IEEE Consumer Communications and
Networking Conference 2012 in Las Vegas, USA, from 14 – 17 January 2012
http://www.fuseco-workshop.org/MCEN2012/
The objective of this work shop is to provide a forum for researchers
and application developers to exchange ideas, present results and share
experience in various aspects of enhancing multimedia communication
experiences in emerging networks.
Traditional topics of multimedia communication services like latency,
privacy, fairness, transparency, security, manageability, provisioning,
monitoring, and accounting may all have different measurements and
meanings over emerging networks, such as broadband wireless networks,
clouds, virtualized networks, tactical networks, delay tolerant
networks, and Internet of things. What's the new measurement metrics,
what's the new user expectations, what's the requirements we need to
keep when performing traditional multimedia services over emerging
networks, what kind of principles we need to hold on both client and
server software to have better user experience of multimedia services.
We need to answer all those questions to provide multimedia services
over emerging networks to users. In addition, we also need to identify
and develop new features and applications specifically for multimedia
communications over emerging networks.
Authors are invited to submit original technical papers covering, but
not limited to, the topics of interest listed below:
· Quality of Service (QoS) issues of multimedia services and
applications over emerging networks
· Quality of Experience (QoE) issues, such as latency, fairness,
and transparency of multimedia services and applications in emerging
networks
· Security and privacy issues of multimedia services and
applications in emerging networks

M-MPAC 2011
-----------
Third International Workshop on
Middleware for Pervasive Mobile and Embedded Computing
http://www.smartlab.cis.strath.ac.uk/M-MPAC/
A Workshop of Middleware 2011
Lisbon, Portugal
12-16 December 2011
Workshop Scope & Themes
-----------------------
Building on the success of M-MPAC 2009 and 2010 this event aims to carry
on development of a research roadmap on essential middleware
abstractions, platforms and applications for pervasive mobile and
embedded systems.
In recent year, tablet devices and operating systems have gained a
prominent spot in the limelight, while the smart phone landscape
continues to change with new offerings supporting a variety of sensors,
higher resolution and bigger size screens, high definition video
recording and playback, and enhanced gaming. Embedded devices like
televisions, TV set top boxes, and game consoles have grown beyond their
original functionality to home multimedia systems supporting enhanced
networking (e.g. IP TV and DNLA), and novel user interaction through 3D
displays, and movement detection based controllers. The pervasiveness of
such mobile and embedded devices has given rise to a variety of novel
applications, such as social web applications, enhanced shopping
applications/environments, ad-hoc gaming, context-aware collaborative
computing, participatory sensing, etc. Access to cloud computing
infrastructures further enhances the capabilities of these devices
offering additional opportunities for innovative applications and uses.
Despite these successes, software development for such devices and
platforms remains largely ad hoc, while interoperability among
applications, devices and platforms is largely elusive. Middleware has a
key role to play in overcoming these problems. However, it still unclear
what are the appropriate middleware abstractions and supporting
infrastructures necessary for such applications. The resource
constrained nature and mobility of such devices place unique
requirements for middleware and necessitate the exploration of novel
programming abstractions, and supporting services, while capabilities
like location and context-awareness open new avenues for radical
approaches in their development.
In this context, the main workshop themes include, but are not limited
to the following themes:
* Device platforms
- Virtualization technologies & applications
- Distributed ensembles
- Interaction paradigms and protocols
- Emerging mobile platforms (e.g. Android, IOS)

Submission
----------
Submissions must not exceed 6 pages and must be formatted using the ACM
proceeding style (see http://www.acm.org/sigs/pubs/proceed/template.html).
Submission implies that at least one of the authors will register and
present the paper. Please submit your paper in PDF at
http:/www.cis.strath.ac.uk/external/m-mpac2011/openconf/
Papers should present a view of the state of the art in a particular
sub-problem area, identify specific middleware challenges, and suggest
potential avenues for exploration by proposing models, abstractions and
infrastructure components addressing these challenges. Approximately two
thirds of the workshop will be devoted to the presentation and
discussion of these papers, while the remaining third of the time will
be devoted to the development of the research roadmap.
Papers will be reviewed by at least 3 members of the program committee.
The review process will be based upon identifying the relevance and
potential of the position statement to contribute to the elaboration of
the roadmap and to stimulate discussion.
All accepted papers will appear in a special workshop proceedings volume
in the ACM Digital Library. The publication of the best workshop
submissions and the research roadmap in the style of previous events is
under investigation.
