** Scope
The main theme of the workshop is to discover the network science
behind self-organizing systems, to facilitate and advance the
understanding, learning, modeling, and analysis of self-organizational
processes in nature (e.g., metabolic, DNA, brain networks) and to apply
the knowledge of self-organization to man-made networks and systems.
The workshop scope includes, but is not limited to, the following topical
areas in self-organizing systems:
- Modeling & analysis
- Applications & service providers & management
- Risks and security
Building on the success of its predecessors, this workshop aims at
bringing together leading international researchers to create a visionary
forum for discussing the future of self-organization in networked systems.
To make IWSOS 2012 a success, we invite the submission of full or short
manuscripts that present original research results or research ideas on
the theme of self-organizing systems.
** Key Topics
- Design and analysis of self-organizing and self-managing systems
- Inspiring models of self-organization in nature and society
- Structure, characteristics and dynamics of self-organizing networks
- Evolutionary principles of the (future, emerging) Internet
- Techniques and tools for modeling self-organizing systems
- Robustness and adaptation in self-organizing systems
- Self-organization in complex networks like peer-to-peer, sensor,
ad-hoc, vehicular and social networks
- User and operator-related aspects of man-made self-organizing systems
- Self-organizing multi-service networks and multi-network services
- Control of self-organizing systems
- Methods for configuration and management of large, complex networks
- Decentralized power management in the smart grid
- Self-protection, self-configuration, diagnosis, and healing
- Self-organizing group and pattern formation
- Self-organizing mechanisms for task allocation, coordination and
resource allocation
- Self-organizing information dissemination and content search
- Security and safety in self-organizing networked systems
- Risks and limits of self-organization
- The human in the loop of self-organizing networks
** Important Dates
Submission deadline: October 26, 2011

CALL FOR PAPERS - NETHEALTH 2012
2nd Workshop on Networked Healthcare Technology (NetHealth 2012)
Co-located with COMSNETS 2012
(in cooperation with ACM, SIGCOMM and SIGMOBILE)
Bangalore, India
January 3, 2012
http://www.comsnets.org/nethealth.html
Important dates:
- Submissions due: October 16, 2011 (11:00pm IST) (1:30pm EST)
- Notification of acceptance: November 16, 2011
- Camera-ready: December 2, 2011
The world's pressing healthcare needs may benefit from judicious
application of networked information technology. Future networked
information systems will support, for example, clinical workflow,
remote diagnosis and consultation, e-prescribing, and mobile data
collection and surveillance, disease outbreak identification and
patient participation in their own well-being and care.
Mobile-computing technology may be particularly helpful in improving
access to healthcare (geography, monetary and informational), by
encouraging personal health management, and by enabling patient and
provider mobility. Wearable medical devices are emerging, to measure
essential vital signs like pulse, respiration, ECG, blood glucose
level, and patient mobility. Handheld devices support clinicians in
urban hospitals, and portable diagnostic kits allow remote healthcare
teams to more easily reach rural villages.
The widespread availability of mobile phones, and recent experiments
with low-cost, long-range broadband wireless networks, bring
connectivity to all these opportunities. We encourage papers that
present novel ideas for networked computing technology in support of
healthcare, and which are likely to invoke thoughtful discussion at
the workshop.
Research papers should focus on all aspects of networked healthcare
technologies. Of interest, though not exclusively, are the following
topics: remote diagnosis and remote consultation
* clinical applications of mobile or networked healthcare
* mobile and wearable medical sensing applications
* design of wearable and home-care health devices
* sensor networks for public health monitoring and surveillance
* networked mobile technology for rural healthcare
* security and privacy in networked healthcare
* experience from technology deployments
* usability of mobile health applications and devices
* applications to emergency response and disaster response
* cost-efficient and energy-efficient networking for remote healthcare
* remote access to electronic health records
Papers should be limited to 6 pages in IEEE format, not submitted
concurrently elsewhere in any form, and present new contributions
regarding either technology or experience in deploying technology.

MISSION OF IJARAS:
Prospective authors are invited to submit manuscripts for possible
publication in the International Journal of Adaptive, Resilient, and
Autonomic Systems. The primary objective of IJARAS is to provide
worldwide readership to high quality, novel, effective approaches to
design, develop, maintain, evaluate, and benchmark
adaptive-and-dependable systems, i.e. devices and services that are
built to sustain quality of service and quality of experience despite
the occurrence of potentially significant and sudden changes or failures
in their infrastructure and surrounding environments. IJARAS has
multiple focuses, ranging from conceptual models and paradigms to
technological aspects.
IJARAS builds upon a core mission statement and research direction: The
awareness of today's urgent need to structure our computer systems as
adaptive systems able to constantly re-optimize in the face of changes
both exogenous (environmental) and endogenous (pertaining to internal
assets). IJARAS introduces a problem, which implies a research direction---a
thesis. The truth about this statement is drastically reverberating
through several domains, and in so doing several seemingly unrelated
research domains such as cross-layer adaptation for mobile devices and
business process re-engineering can be regarded as special cases of a
larger theory of systems. This vision paves the way to
cross-fertilization; and through that, IJARAS aims at becoming a
powerful tool to steer novel ideas and inject new research directions in
this area.
RECOMMENDED TOPICS:
IJARAS topics include (but are not limited to) the following:
* Mechanisms, both general and special-purpose, to
model, design, express, and develop
adaptive, autonomic and resilient systems;
* Analytical and simulation tools to measure a
system's ability to withstand faults and optimally re-adjust to new
environments;
* Conceptual models and paradigms to express change tolerance;
* Methods, models, and architectures to manage and
express strategies and provisions for cross-layer adaptation;
* Design-time / run-time methods and tools to
identify and enforce optimal trade-offs between energy consumption,
performance, safety, and security;
* Scalable, maintainable, cost-effective
provisions, located at all system levels, to achieve adaptability and
dependability;
* Resilience engineering;
* Autonomic business process execution;
* Adaptive service-oriented computing;
* Evolutionary and embryogenic approaches to
autonomic computing, resilience, and adaptive systems;
* Recovery-oriented computing;
* Methods focusing on optimizing quality of
experience e.g. adaptive user interfaces;
* Adaptive fault-tolerance;
* Adaptive fault-masking;
* Adaptive data integrity;
* Autonomous and adaptive systems in robotics;
* Adaptive and context-aware multimedia;
* Personalization;
* Adaptive data mining;
* Adaptive fault models;
* Adaptive system models;
* Adaptive routing;
* Autonomic applications;
* Architecture-based adaptation;
* "Self-*" systems.

CALL FOR PAPERS –- NEW DEADLINE September 15, 2011
2nd IEEE International Workshop on Densely Connected Networks (DCN)
IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference 2012 (IEEE CCNC 2012)
Jan 14, 2012, Las Vegas, NV, USA
www.ieee-ccnc.org/2012
============================================================
Goals and Topics
Recently there has been an emerging trend that networks expand the
coverage to home networks, personal networks, in-vehicle networks, etc.
In such networks, there exist complex interactions among
context-specific servers, various sensors and a large number of
appliances and equipments. The network resources in such densely
connected networks can become very much scarce especially when they are
interconnected; furthermore, emerging applications such as peer-to-peer
and streaming applications are typically oblivious to the complex
structure of underlying networks and can easily abuse the scarce
resources. Additionally, energy saving can become a key factor in
network design. In wireline networks, proposals such as
application-layer traffic optimization have become well-known potential
solutions to addressing similar challenges; however, these approaches
are no longer sufficient to address the more fundamental technical
challenges in densely connected networks.
The goal of this workshop is to provide a dedicated forum and community
for researchers and engineers to share the state-of-the-art innovations
and developments on the emerging densely connected networks. In
particular, the workshop will focus on technical challenges in and
emerging architecture for densely connected networks where a
significantly large number of tethered and mobile devices are connected
and on top of which applications unaware of the complexity of underlying
networks try to compete for the resources in an uncooperative fashion.
The workshop seeks submissions in the general areas of networking,
content management, systems and applications that relate to dense
networks. Topics include, but are not limited to:
* Network architecture and its evolution of densely connected networks
* Content dissemination via dense connectivity
* Statistics, measurement, and evaluations of application-specific
resource usage
* Cooperative mechanisms via explicit or implicit communications
* Caching mechanisms and system design in content dissemination for
densely connected networks
* Incentive models and dynamics of cooperation
* Demonstration, prototype, deployment of cooperative frameworks
* Performance measurement of cooperative network design
* Network design that encourages cooperation and optimizes resource
usage
* Joint optimization for network and applications
* Energy saving in densely connected networks
Guidelines for Submission
Submitted papers must represent original material that is not currently
under review in any other conference or journal, and has not been
previously published. The paper should be used as the basis for a 20 -
30 minute workshop presentation.
Manuscripts should be written in English conforming to the IEEE standard
conference format (8.5" x 11", Two-Column) and not exceed 5 pages in
length. Submission of papers should be regarded as a commitment such
that, if accepted, at least one author of the paper will register and
attend the conference; otherwise it will be removed from the IEEE
Digital Library after the conference.
Papers should be submitted in .pdf format via the EDAS paper submission
website by selecting the workshop submission.
