14th IEEE Global Internet Symposium
Shanghai, China
15 April 2011
http://www.dcs.gla.ac.uk/conferences/gi2011/
*** Call for Papers ***
The 14th IEEE Global Internet Symposium will be held in conjunction with
IEEE Infocom 2011 in Shanghai, China, on 15 April 2011. All relevant
dates, location, and travel information are available from the IEEE
Infocom 2011 website (http://www.ieee-infocom.org/2011/).
The IEEE Global Internet Symposium aims to provide a forum for
researchers and practitioners to present and discuss advances in
Internet-related technologies. The focus of the symposium is on
experimental systems and on emerging future Internet technologies, and
especially on scaling such systems to a global scale. The Program
Committee encourages original submissions describing promising work in
progress, speculations about the future of the Internet, and progressive
position papers (which should be clearly marked as such).
The proceedings of the 14th IEEE Global Internet Symposium will be
published on-line through the IEEE Xplore Digital Library after IEEE
Infocom 2011 concludes.
*** Topics ***
Authors are invited to submit papers on issues, especially scaling
issues, related to current and future Internet technology. Topics of
interest include, but not limited to, the following:
- Novel applications and new paradigms
- Next-generation network architectures
- Handling Internet dynamics/heterogeneity (by applications and/or the
network)
- P2P networking and overlay networks
- Large-scale distributed Internet applications
- Privacy and/or security issues in the Internet
- Anomaly, intrusion and attack detection
- Routing (unicast, multicast, anycast, etc.)
- Flow management (fairness/sharing, congestion control, differentiated
services, etc.)
- The Internet and wireless/mobile devices, as well as intermittent
connectivity
- Traffic measurement, analysis, modeling, and visualization
- Provisioning, monitoring, and management of IP services
- Content networking (caching, content distribution, content routing,
content services, load balancing, etc.)
*** Important Dates ***
Paper submission: 20 December 2010
Notification of acceptance: 4 February 2011
Symposium: 15 April 2011
*** Submission Instructions ***
Submitted manuscripts must be formatted in standard IEEE camera-ready
format (double-column, 10-pt font) and must be submitted via EDAS
(http://edas.info/newPaper.php?c=9011) as PDF files formatted for
8.5x11-inch paper. The manuscripts must be no longer than 6 pages. The
Programme Committee reserves the right to not review papers that violate
these formatting rules.
Submitted papers must not have been previously published, or be under
consideration for publication elsewhere. All submitted papers will be
reviewed and judged on originality, technical correctness, relevance,

Wiley International Journal of Communication Systems (IJCS)
Special Issue on
"Interdisciplinary and Cross-layer Design of Mobile Social Networks and
Wireless Networks"
Social Networks have attracted billions of active users under major
online social network systems such as MySpace, Facebook, Twitter,
DouBan, etc. Nowadays these social networks are increasingly used on
mobile devices thus rendering a new research field of mobile social
networks. The marriage of current wired-network-based social networks
with mobile wireless networks triggers exciting new research areas. For
instance, knowing the network features such as throughput and delay can
help mobile social networks select a contact (e.g., a job advice centre)
to which the network route has the best performance. This leads to the
so-called wireless-aware social networks and the problem domain is
within social networks. On the other hand, there is also social-aware or
social inspired wireless network research where the knowledge of social
network users is exploited for the benefit of wireless network design.
Therefore, a cross-layer design that incorporates both the upper-layer
mobile
social networks and the lower-layer wireless networks is needed. And
this comprises the thematic essence of this Special Issue.
This cross-layer design method calls for a novel interdisciplinary
research thinking that embraces not only these disciplines that are
closely related to the field such as computer science, social science
and network/communication engineering but also other subjects such as
biology, physics, etc. The goal of this SI is to solicit the
state-of-the-art approaches and technical solutions that embark on the
above interdisciplinary and cross-layer design methodologies to design
and implement a better-performed mobile social network or wireless
network. The topics of interest include, but limited to, the following:
Group 1: Network-aware Mobile Social Networks
*) Implications, opportunities and challenges of mobile social networks
caused by mobile wireless networks
*) Network-aware modelling, design and development of mobile social networks
*) Network-aware social search, data collection, processing, ranking and
recommendation
*) Network-aware middleware, framework for mobile social networks
*) Network-aware real-world applications, services, systems of mobile
social networks
*) Experimental results or trials of network-aware mobile social networks
*) New aspects of security, privacy and trust in mobile wireless networks
Group 2: Socially-aware Wireless Networks
*) Implications, opportunities and challenges of mobile wireless
networks caused by social networks
*) Social-aware modelling of mobile wireless networks, planning,
protocol design and deployment
*) Community based mobility model, handoff management
*) Applying social network theories into wireless network problem solving
*) Optimal and scalable distribution of dynamic content (such as news or
traffic information) over mobile social networks
*) New social-aware/inspired wireless content distribution networks
*) Network security protocols/algorithms design using social data

Special Issue on "Mobility in Wireless Sensor Networks"
Introduction:
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) offer unprecedented capabilities for
integrating sensing with computing and communication as well as for
distributed sensing, coordination and control. While WSNs have been a
subject of intensive research for about a decade, most research activities
to date focus on sensor nodes that are deployed in static, pre-determined
locations with sensor readings taken at regular intervals and with packet
forwarding that take place in multiple hops to sinks where storage and
analysis takes place. The next step for sensor networks is to handle
mobility in all possible forms. Thus we need to consider the mobility of
sinks, mobility of sensors and of actuators as well as the mobility of the
applications and their software. This extension towards represents a recent
research subject in sensor networking that opens up a new research
opportunities and challenges, and significantly expands the types of
applications for which WSNs can be used.
This Special Issue therefore aims at identifying the benefits and challenges
raised by mobility in WSNs, addressing the state of the art and advances in
this particularly promising research area. Topics of interest include (but
are not limited to):
- Sink mobility in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Actuator networks
- Mobile sensor-actuator networks
- Code mobility in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Mobile agent-based data aggregation in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Mobility issues in underwater Wireless Sensor Networks
- Mobility-assisted communication in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Topology coverage and connectivity maintenance in Wireless Sensor
Networks with mobile elements
- Mobility management in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Mobility for maximizing network lifetime in Wireless Sensor Networks
- Mobility models for sinks and actuators in Wireless Sensor Networks
- MAC protocols and QoS provisioning in Wireless Sensor Networks with
mobile elements
- Routing protocols for handling mobility
- Distributed algorithms and reasoning in Wireless Sensor Networks with
mobile elements
- Data aggregation, fusion and dissemination techniques in Wireless Sensor
Networks with mobile elements
- Synchronization and scheduling issues in Wireless Sensor Networks with
mobile elements
- Security, trust and privacy in Wireless Sensor Networks with mobile
elements
- Mobile GeoSensor Networks
- Simulation, evaluation and validation of Wireless Sensor Networks with
mobile elements
- Applications, testbeds and deployment experiences
