CALL FOR PAPERS
============================================================
BodyNets 2010
The 5th Annual International Conference on Body Area Networks
September 10-12, 2010, Corfu Island, Greece.
http://www.bodynets.org/index.shtml
Submission deadline: March 10, 2010
============================================================
ACM MONET special issue on "Ubiquitous Body Sensor Networks".
http://www.bodynets.org/docs/MONET-SI-UBSN-CFP.pdf
============================================================
OVERVIEW:
Recent advances in the field of wireless sensor networks have moved them
beyond their traditional areas of application in monitoring of remote and
mobile environments. Sensor networks are increasingly being deployed
within and around the human body to form Body Area Networks (BodyNets).
In addition to monitoring focused applications BodyNets allow also for
closed loop systems incorporating actuators. They can be utilized in
diverse
applications such as physiological monitoring, human computer interactions,
education and entertainment through interactive games. This conference will
explore and explain the scope and challenges of designing, building, and
deploying BodyNets. In this regard, the conference aims to establish a
forum to bring together research professionals from diverse fields
including
computer science, biomedical engineering and medicine in both academia
and industry to address the technical, social, system and application
issues
related to BodyNets.
TOPICS:
The conference invites original technical papers that were not previously
published and are not currently under review for publication elsewhere.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
1 Communications and Networking:
* In-body, on-body, and around body networks
* Communication techniques and protocols for BodyNets
* Scalable, flexible network architectures & deployments
* Networking and security issues for BodyNets
* Advanced propagation and channel model for BodyNets
2 Medical applications:
* Pervasive health care and patient monitoring

IEEE Network Magazine Special Issue on
"Future Internet: New Applications and Emerging Services"
==================================================================
Background:
The Internet has been successfully deployed for several decades due to its
high flexibility in running over different physical mediums and supporting
different high layer protocols and applications including traditional file
transfer, e-mail, and client-server based web applications. Meanwhile, we
have witnessed the unprecedented development and growth of new applications
and services in recent years ranging from peer-to-peer (P2P) based
applications, image and video applications, location-based services, secured
transactions, online hosting services, machine-to-machine (M2M)
interactions, and cloud computing. These new applications and emerging
services have, in different degree, demanded better than the current
best-effort quality of service.
The future Internet is expected to be more agile, scalable, secure and
reliable, which has been considered and pursued in research projects such as
NSF FIND (Future Internet Design) and GENI (Global Environment for Network
Innovations) programs in the United States, and EIFFEL (Evolved Internet
Future for European Leadership) and FIREworks (Future Internet Research and
Experimentation - Strategy Works) projects in Europe. Such ever-emerging
applications with different requirements and implications for the future
Internet design pose a significantly new set of problems and challenges,
which are not well understood, specifically : 1) how can they be efficiently
provisioned in the future Internet? 2) how can the future Internet be
evolved and/or re-designed possible with radical changes to cater for new
applications and services? The goal of this special issue is to feature
recent and emerging Internet applications and services, their performance,
impact, demands and implications for future Internet design.
Scope:
Papers should contain substantial tutorial content and be accessible to a
general audience of researchers and practitioners. Topics of interest
include, but are not limited to:
*Peer-to-peer applications including file transfer, live video streaming and
VoD
*Utility computing, cloud computing, cloud storage networks
*Online hosting services
*E-commerce, secured transactions
*Mobile services, location-based services
*New service provisioning, quality of service issues

CALL FOR PAPERS
GI/ITG Workshop on Energy-aware Systems and Methods
held in conjunction with
ARCS 2010 - Architecture of Computing Systems
February 22-23, 2010; Hannover, Germany
<http://www7.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/~dressler/fg-energie/2010/>
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Aims and scope
--------------
Energy is considered a critical or even the most critical resource in
many computing systems. Applications comprise a wide range of system
capabilities including cloud computing, mobile laptops or PDAs, as well
as cell phones, sensor networks, and deeply embedded devices. Thus, for
functional and ecological reasons energy awareness and energy-aware
operation are fundamental demands for any system. In recent years, a new
research domain was established as an interdisciplinary field among
different areas of computer science (e.g., operating systems and
computer networks) and electrical engineering (e.g., wireless
communication and chip design). Based on findings in the field of
energy-aware systems and methods, novel application scenarios can be
envisioned encompassing even stronger requirements on reliability,
resilience, lifetime, adaptability, and self-organization.
This workshop aims to provide a forum to discuss recent results in the
field of energy-awareness that is a cross-cutting concern in many areas
in systems research. Based on intensive discussions of energy-critical
issues in the different layers and the different approaches to
energy-aware system design, the participants will be able to study
energy-related problems from multiple perspectives and to look into the
complex interactions among those layers. We especially encourage PhD
students to participate, to share their ideas and findings, and to
network with other fellows working in the same field.
Topics of interest
------------------
Whereas the workshop mainly focuses on energy-aware systems and methods,
contributions are favored that span all the related fields of study.
This includes the following aspects:
- Operating system support
- Communication methods
- Protocol engineering
- Simulation techniques
- Cross-layer design of energy-aware systems
- Application and hardware support for energy-aware operation
Organization
------------
The workshop is organized as a follow-up to the successful “GI/ITG
Fachgespräch” on energy-aware systems and methods. Key organizers are
Prof. Dr. Frank Bellosa (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), PD Dr.
Falko Dressler (University of Erlangen), and Prof. Dr. Dirk Timmermann
(University of Rostock).
Important dates
---------------
• January 12, 2010 (extended): Paper submission deadline. Papers must be
submitted
in PDF format.
• January 15, 2010: Notification of acceptance
• January 20, 2010: Final paper submission

EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking, Special Issue on
Design, Implementation, and Evaluation of Wireless Sensor Network Systems
http://www.hindawi.com/journals/wcn/si/wsns.html
Call for Papers
The recent advances in embedded software/hardware design have enabled
large-scale and cost-effective
deployment of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Such a network consists
of many small sensor nodes with
sensing, control, data processing, communications, and networking
capabilities. The wireless sensor networks
have a broad spectrum applications ranging from wild life monitoring and
battlefield surveillance to border
control and disaster relief, and have attracted significant interests
from both academy and industry.
A wireless sensor node generally has limited storage and computation
capabilities, as well as severely constrained
power supplies, and the networks often operate in harsh unattended
environments. Successful design and
deployment of wireless sensor networks thus call for technology advances
and integrations in diverse fields
including embedded hardware manufacturing and signal processing as well
as wireless communications and
networking across all layers. We have seen the initial and incremental
deployment of real sensor networks in
the past decade, for example, the ZebraNet for wildlife tracking, the
CitySense for weather and air pollutants
reporting, and the Sensormap portal for generic monitoring services, to
name but a few; yet the full potentials
of such networks in the real world remain to be explored and
demonstrated, which involves numerous practical
challenges in diverse aspects.
This special issue aims to summarize the latest development in the
design, implementation, and evaluation of
wireless sensor systems. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
* Practical architecture and protocol design for sensor
communications and networking
* Management, monitoring, and diagnosis of sensor networks
* Implementation and measurement of experimental systems and testbeds
* Experience with real-world deployments of wireless sensor networks
* Interactions with ubiquitous communication and networking
infrastructures
* Novel killer applications of wireless sensor networks
We solicit original unpublished research papers only. Papers previously
published in conference/workshop proceedings
can be considered, but should be substantially extended.
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's
Author Guidelines, which are located at
http://www.hindawi.com/journals/wcn/guidelines.html. Prospective authors
should submit an electronic copy of their
complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at

CALL FOR PAPERS
About the Conference
Next-generation mobile networks will evolve out of existing wired and
wireless networks of different nature by means of convergence, fusion
and mutual penetration; next-generation multimedia services in turn pose
new requirements and challenges on treatment of traffic within
communication systems – a certain degree of multilayer co-operation has
to be achieved. This forms a framework on harmonization of results
obtained separately in different areas of network research like network
performance evaluation, architecture and protocol design, and low layer
network design. The conference goal is in the identification,
investigation and integration of new algorithms, approaches,
architectures, methods and mechanisms to enable proper and efficient
operation of a next-generation IP-based wireless network. Therefore,
wireless networks and their interaction with wired networks shall be
widely examined and addressed throughout the conference.
The history of NEW2AN dates back to 1993, today it is an established
conference featured by proceedings published by Springer LNCS and
distinguished keynote speakers.
The NEW2AN 2010 will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia - the meeting
