services, and their associated protocols for emerging networks is at a
critical point given the proliferation and integration of wireless
systems to intelligent and broadband networks, mobility of people,
data/voice convergence and the integration of computing and
communication in mobile devices.
This workshop is devoted to cover different aspects of wireless
multimedia networking and performance modeling for WLANs, WPANs, WMANs,
WWANs, MANETs and sensor networks such as wireless video and wireless
streaming, systematic design methodologies, algorithms, synchronization,
analysis and performance modeling. The workshop will provide a forum for
researchers and practitioners to present their contributions related to
the above high-level aspects.

Call for Papers - Journal of Network and Systems Management
Special Issue on Management of the IP Multimedia Subsystem
Today, the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is globally considered as the
common service platform for providing a unified session control on top
of various access network technologies for realizing new IP-based
multimedia communication and information services. IMS is also driving
the notion of Next Generation Networks (NGNs) and Fixed Mobile
Convergence (FMC) by merging the fixed and mobile telecommunication
networks with the Internet and the adoption of IP technologies within
the telecom domain. Although we can witness the availability of
international standards for NGN/IMS signaling, management solutions of
this converging technology domain are not yet standardized Thus the
global introduction of IMS platforms in fixed and mobile networks and
provision of related IMS applications is challenged today by the
questions around management issues.
In this special issue we would like to identify the challenges in IMS
system and service management and to provide a snapshot of the
state-of-the-art in IMS management standards and related solutions
development and deployment around the world. We are soliciting papers
covering a variety of topics that include:
* State of the art in NGN / IMS management standardisation
* Experiences / Best practices in IMS management from IMS trials and
early deployments
* Fault and Performance Management of IMS Core Systems / IMS Network
Element Management
* IMS services management
* Management of IMS service enablers / service orchestration management
* Managing 3rd party applications and application servers in IMS
* Dynamic service provisioning in IMS
* IMS End System Software Management / Device Management
* Multidomain management aspects for interconnected IMS Systems
* End-to End Policy-based QoS Management in NGNs
* Security management issues in IMS
* Charging and accounting management issues in IMS
* Push 2 Talk management issues
* FMC - Management in converging networks and of seamless services
* Management of IMS Subscriber Data / User Profiles
* Customer self management in IMS
* ID Management in IMS / Single sign on
Papers should be of tutorial nature and contain state-of-the-art
research and development materials. Authors must follow the JNSM´s
guidelines regarding the manuscript format. For further information,
please refer to JNSM website at www.cstp.umkc.edu/jnsm. All papers
should be submitted in PDF format to the JEMS system at:

ACM Transactions on Autonomous and Adaptive Systems
Special Issue on Organic Computing
===================================================
SCOPE
-----
Organic Computing (OC) has emerged recently as a challenging vision for
future information processing systems, based on the insight that we will
soon be surrounded by systems with massive numbers of processing elements,
sensors and actuators. Because of the size of these systems it is infeasible
for us to monitor and control them entirely from external observations;
instead they will need to help us monitor, control and adapt themselves. To
do so, these components will need to be aware of their environment, to
communicate freely, and to organize themselves in order to perform the
actions and services that are required. The presence of such networks of
intelligent systems in our environment opens up fascinating application
areas but, at the same time, bears the problem of their controllability.
Hence, we have to construct these systems as robust, safe, and trustworthy
as possible. In order to achieve all these goals, our computing systems will
have to act more independently, flexibly, and autonomously. Thus, we are
interested in new analytic methods and architectures underlying complex
systems. In OC, we put an emphasis on systems that exhibit "life-like"
properties, such as being self-organizing, self-configuring, self-healing,
self-protecting, self-explaining, and context-aware.
The vision of OC and its fundamental concepts arose independently in
different research areas like Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, and Computer
Science & Engineering. In this special issue, we welcome contributions from
all these areas to OC. We seek theoretical as well as carefully evaluated
practical papers dealing with complex computing systems that
* adapt dynamically to the current conditions of their environments,
* exhibit "self-x" properties as described above, and
* are partly inspired by biological information processing principles.

INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF INTERNET PROTOCOL TECHNOLOGY (IJIPT)
Special Issue on "Management of IP Networks and Services"
1. Objectives
Network and service management today faces numerous challenges, ones
that older ways of doing things cannot solve. Several proposals and
paradigms
have been proposed in the last few years to offer possible solutions to
these issues. In most cases they are providing a system-wide view of the
network and its services, thus trying to shift the emphasis of
management and monitoring away from specific devices and interfaces
towards users and
applications.
This Special Issue will provide the reader with the last relevant
results in this field, thus providing a common base for researchers and
practitioners that need to understand the current status and trends of
management of IP networks and services.
2. Subject coverage
In this special issue original research articles providing results of
practical use for IP network and service managers will be published.
Contributions are solicited on (but not restricted to) the following
subject categories:
• New Abstractions for Management and Monitoring.
• Self-Management and Self-Configuration of Networks and Services.
• Techniques for Evaluating Network Management Architectures and Frameworks.
• Information Models Applied to Management and Monitoring.
• Management Platforms, Interoperability, Standards and Protocols.
• Management of Networks and Services: VPNs, Optical Networks, CATV
Networks, Mobile and Ad-Hoc Networks, Voice over IP, Transaction Oriented
Services, Electronic Commerce, Active and Programmable Networks, Sensor
Networks.
• Management of Grid Computing, Clusters, Peer-to-Peer Applications, and
Ubiquitous Computing Environments.
• Intrusion Detection and Network Management.
• Management Aspects of Service Pricing, Accounting and Billing.
• Management of Service Level Agreements and Quality of Service.
• Business and Service Management.
• Data Warehousing and Data Mining in Management.
• Data Management in Grid Scenarios.
• Programmable, Mobile and Intelligent Agents in Management.
• Peer-to-Peer Network Technologies for Management.
• Management Technologies and Frameworks (Web, XML, CORBA, DEN, etc).
• Network and Systems Monitoring.
• Fault and Performance Management.
• Traffic and Performance Management.
• Security Management.
• Open-Source Management Software.
• Case Studies and Experiences in Management.
3. Important dates
Manuscript Submission: April 16, 2007 (Extended)
Author Notification: May 31, 2007
Final Manuscript Due: June 30, 2007
Publication: Spring 2008
4. Instructions for submission
Papers should be in English and contain original contributions on the
topics of this special issue. Only original papers that have not been
published
or that are not currently under consideration for publication elsewhere
can be submitted. Papers should be sent by email to both guest editors by
April 16, 2007 (extended).

SUBJECT AND SCOPE
-----------------
This workshop covers comprehensively the algorithmic issues in the hot area
of ad hoc and sensor networking. In particular, sensor networks are
currently recognized as one of the priority research areas (for example, a
multi-disciplinary program on sensors and sensor networks was launched in
2003 at the US National Science Foundation) and research activities are
booming recently.
This workshop concentrates on network layer problems like data communication
(routing, QoS-routing, geocasting, multicasting, broadcasting, etc.) and
topology control (neighbor discovery, power adjustment, neighbor
elimination, etc.). The main paradigm shift is to apply localized (or
greedy) schemes as opposed to existing protocols requiring global
information. Localized algorithms are distributed algorithms where simple
local node behavior achieves a desired global objective. Localized protocols
provide scalable solutions, that is, solutions for wireless networks with an
arbitrary number of nodes, which is the main goal of this plan. Sensor and
rooftop/mesh networks, for instance, have hundreds or thousands of nodes.
The objective of the workshop is to present state of the art research
results on data communication and topology control in rapidly growing area
of ad hoc and sensor networks, with emphasizes on localized techniques.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Medium access control
* Analytical, mobility and validation models
* Hybrid networks and wireless Internet
* Security in ad hoc networks
* Data management, query processing, and data delivery in sensor networks
* Unicast routing, multicasting, and broadcasting
* Geocasting and anycasting
* Energy-efficient and bandwidth-efficient protocols
* Quality of service in medium access control and routing
* Topology construction and maintenance
* Neighborhood discovery and mobility management
* Localized protocols for duty-cycled sensor networks
* Sensor area coverage problems
* Auto-configuration and network formation protocols and algorithms
* Relative positioning algorithms
* Lower bounds on information exchange required for localized solutions
* Network graph properties supporting localized protocols
* Worst and average case analysis on the deviation from optimal solutions

GI/ITG/MMB/KuVS Technical Discussion (Fachgespraech) on
"Performance Modeling of Self-Organizing Systems"
July 13, 2007, University of Passau, Germany
http://www.net.fim.uni-passau.de/pmsos07.html
OVERVIEW
Self-organization plays a key architectural role for the future Internet
as well as for large-scale pervasive computing systems such as wireless
sensor networks. Self-organization will enhance flexibility and
evolvability of organically growing, large-scale distributed systems.
Driven by randomness and feedback, the relation between cause and effect
of these systems may appear chaotic: minor causes may have severe
impact,
whereas seemingly major causes may only have a small effect. Traditional
mathematical models tend to be linear and, thus, are not suitable to
model
such chaotic systems. Models to be developed should be simple to remain
scalable to the huge number of entities in the systems under
investigation
and to be generally applicable.
Following PMSOS 2006, we again aim to investigate the methodology for
modeling and evaluating the performance and reliability of complex
self-organizing systems at the edge of chaos. To this end, this meeting
once more brings together leading national and international experts and
creates a forum for knowledge exchange.

PIK Special Issue:
"Modeling of Self-Organizing Systems"
("Selbst-Organisierende Systeme und deren Modellierung")
Scheduled date of publication: March 2008 (PIK Vol.31 No.1)
OVERVIEW
Self-organization is foreseen to play a major role in future
communication
systems. Obviously, this shift in paradigm leads to a variety of open
research challenges. Solutions to these challenges are pivotal in either
leveraging the possible advantages of self-organizing systems, but could
also turn out to be a heavy burden for both operators and users. The
goal
is clear: after purposefully introducing (artificial) means of self-
organization, the beneficial features - often identified as the so-
called
self-* properties - should clearly outnumber the critical ones, like
un-controllability, undesired instability and criticality, or
unpredictability.
Thus, it is essential for the community to learn how to design,
engineer,
optimize, and control complex, almost chaotic systems in a structured,
purposeful way. One tool that provides means for this demand is the
concept of mathematical modeling.
This PIK special issue aims at giving a survey on the topic of
self-organization and mathematical modeling techniques that are
capable of
modeling self-organizing behavior.
PROPOSED TOPICS
* Essential properties of self-organizing systems
* Modeling of self-* properties, such as self-organization,
self-management, self-adaptation/-configuration,
self-monitoring/-diagnosis, self-tuning/-optimization, self-
protection,
and self-repair/-healing
* Metrics for evaluating self-* properties
* Formal and mathematical models of self-organizing and complex systems
* Observing self-organized criticality with the help of
formal/mathematical models
* Tools, test beds, and simulations capable of evaluating self-
organizing
systems
* Performance, QoS, dependability, reliability, and availability
modeling
of self-organizing systems
* Mathematical optimization of self-organizing systems
* Security and fault-tolerance models for self-organizing systems
* Modeling of emergent behavior
* Design and construction of self-organizing systems
* Control theory for self-organizing systems Modeling the
(un-)controllability of self-organizing or emergent systems
* Abstracting from self-organization and complexity
* Scalability of complex model evaluation
IMPORTANT DATES
* Paper submission: August 19th, 2007
* Notification of acceptance: October 21st, 2007
* Camera ready papers due: November 11th, 2007
