CALL FOR PAPERS
SANET 2007
First ACM Workshop on Sensor Actor Networks
http://www.lifl.fr/POPS/SANET2007
Montreal, Canada, Sept. 10, 2007
Organized and run in conjunction with ACM MobiCom 2007
http://www.sigmobile.org/mobicom/2007/
======================================================================
Purpose
The advent of nano-technology and advances in communications has
made it technologically feasible and economically viable to develop
low-power devices that integrate general-purpose computing with
multi-purpose sensing and wireless communications capabilities. It
is expected that sensor networks will have a significant impact on
a wide array of applications ranging from military, to scientific,
to industrial, to health-care, to domestic, to environmental,
establishing ubiquitous wireless sensor networks that will pervade
society redefining the way in which we live and work.
Recently, in an attempt to integrate sensor networks in the fabric
of human activities it has been recognized that it would be
beneficial to augment sensor networks by either actuators or
actors. Actuators are simple devices programmed to take immediate,
one-shot, action in response to sensory input. Actors are more
sophisticated entities that, in addition to actuating can provide a
meaningful, long-term, interaction with the environment. This
long-term interaction presupposes intelligent coordination with
both the sensory data but also with anticipated changes in the
environment. The resulting augmented version of sensor networks is
commonly referred to as Sensor Actor Networks (SANET).
SANET 2007 has for stated goal to be a high-profile workshop that
brings together state-of-the-art contributions on the design,
specification, and implementation of architectures and protocols
for current and future applications of SANETs.
Topics of Interest
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Autonomous sensor networks
* Emergent behavior in SANET
* Modeling and simulation of SANET
* Autonomic and self-organizing coordination and communication
* Sensor-actor and actor-actor coordination
* Energy-efficient and real-time communication protocols
* Distributed control in sensor-actor networks
* Communication protocols for swarms of mobile actors
* Biologically inspired communication
* Ecological systems
* Architectures and topology control
* Localization in SANET
* Probabilistic integration in SANET
* SANET control and management
* SANET security and robustness
* SANET architectural and operational models
* Applications and prototypes

CALL FOR PAPERS
2nd ACM International Workshop on Performance Monitoring, Measurement,
and Evaluation of Heterogeneous Wireless and Wired Networks- PM2HW2N'07
http://www.i3a.uclm.es/pm2hw2n07/
To be held in conjunction with 10th ACM/IEEE International Symposium on
Modeling, Analysis and Simulation
of Wireless and Mobile Systems - MSWiM'07
http://www.cs.unibo.it/projects/mswim2007/
October 22 - 26, 2007
Chania, Crete Island, Greece
SCOPE:
Wireless networks, including ad hoc, sensor, along with ubiquitous, have
witnessed over the past few years their fastest growth period and have
become increasingly complex. Nonetheless, their performance evaluation
and analysis have been conducted mostly through software simulations
(e.g. using ns-2 or OPNET tools). Very recently, some research efforts
have been directed towards measuring real-world commercial and
experimental networks; constructing models based on real-world data and
using prototypes to more realistically and comprehensively evaluate the
suggested solutions and more specifically validate the assumptions and
the conclusions reached via the simulation approach.
The monitoring, measurements, and evaluation of heterogeneous wired and
wireless mobile networks poses a new set of unique challenges due to the
unique inherent properties of these systems and due to the
characteristics of the wireless transmission medium.
The aim of this workshop, whose 1st edition was held in 2006 in
Torremolinos (Spain), is to bring together scientists, engineers, and
practitioners to share and exchange their experiences, discuss
challenges, and report state-of-the-art and in-progress research on all
aspects of performance measurements, monitoring, and evaluation of
heterogeneous wired and wireless mobile networks, including, wireless ad
hoc, sensor, and ubiquitous networks.
A detailed list on the workshop topics can be found at the PM2HW2N07's

Call for Papers
IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine
Special Issue on "Architectures and Protocols for Mobility Management in
All-IP Mobile Networks"
The success of next generation mobile networks will rely much on the degree
of seamless mobility support among heterogeneous technologies. Seamless
mobility is a many-faceted challenge that needs to be addressed to
alleviate
or eliminate today's restrictions on supported media, access technologies,
devices or vendors. As we move in this direction, maintaining reliability,
availability, quality of service and security at optimal levels across
different systems is extremely important. Most modern mobile access
technologies include advanced mechanisms for the support of intra-system
handover and mobility to ensure seamless service provision. These
mechanisms
require proper parameterization and real-time adjustment according to a
large range of traffic, QoS and channel conditions. On the other hand,
inter-system handover and mobility management across heterogeneous networks
are challenging problems that require efficient and reliable interoperation
of the various schemes deployed in the different systems. Furthermore,
simultaneous mobility must be supported, i.e., when both end hosts are
mobile and they move at the same time, the session should not be dropped
(as
may happen with Mobile IPv6). Recent efforts are focusing on providing
seamless handover and service continuity among access systems through close
coordination with the QoS support and resource management mechanisms.
Effort
is placed into architectures that integrate different access technologies
under a common IP backbone so that seamless mobility support will exploit
the benefits of each technology. Several standardization activities are
currently underway by different bodies. 802.21 is an IEEE emerging standard
that aims at enabling seamless handover between networks of the same type
as
well as handover between different network types, also called Media
Independent Handover (MIH). The standard provides information to allow
handing over to and from several popular networks through different
handover
mechanisms. 3GPP is defining mobility from circuit-switched to IMS domain
in
the form of voice call continuity (VCC) and seamless mobility between
different packet-switched domains belonging to existing and evolving 3GPP
access networks and non-3GPP access networks as a part of System
Architecture Evolution effort.
This special issue will be devoted to the architectures, protocols, and
mechanisms for mobility management and seamless handover support in next
generation mobile networks. We seek original, high-quality and previously
unpublished contributions, not currently under review by another magazine
or
journal. Contributions emphasizing recent advances and new research
directions are strongly encouraged. Areas of interest include, but are not
limited to:
- Handovers in IEEE 802.16e
- Handovers in Evolved UMTS
- Comparison between 3GPP and IETF MM protocols
- Mobility between 3GPP and non-3GPP radio access networks
- Fast Handovers for Mobile IPv6 (FMIPv6)
- Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 Mobility Management (HMIPv6)
- Mobile IPv6 Fast Handovers for 3G, WMANs and WLANs
- Mobility Management using Proxy Mobile IPv4/v6
- Localized Mobility Management
- Simultaneous mobility support (when both end hosts are mobile)
- Architectures and protocols for mobility management in heterogeneous
environments
- Seamless intra- and inter-system handover
- Media Independent Handovers (IEEE 802.21)
- Security issues / solution in mobility management
- Inter-domain mobility: AAA and other architectures and protocols
All submissions should adhere to the style of IEEE Wireless Communications
Magazine. Guidelines for prospective authors can be found on-line at
http://www.comsoc.org/~pci/. Electronic submissions in Postscript or PDF
format are strongly encouraged and should be sent to one of the Guest
Editors at the addresses indicated below. If electronic submission is not
possible, please contact the guest editors.

SENSEAPP 2007
SECOND IEEE INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON PRACTICAL ISSUES IN
BUILDING SENSOR NETWORK APPLICATIONS
(in conjunction with IEEE LCN 2007)
Dublin, Ireland
15 - 18 October 2007
Web: http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~senseapp
CALL FOR PAPERS
Submission Deadline Extended to 14th May, 2007.
Sensor nodes are tiny autonomous devices that combine sensing,
computing and wireless communication capabilities. These nodes are
deeply embedded into the physical surroundings, and gather and
process information such as temperature, humidity, light
characteristics, seismic activities or images and sound samples from
the physical world. Networked systems of such sensors are expected to
be used in a variety of applications including habitat monitoring,
precision agriculture, disaster recovery operations, healthcare and
supply chain management. Real-world sensor network deployments and
prototypic implementations are still not commonplace. However,
experiences gained in such deployments are crucial for the sensor
network research community. These results are needed to refine
assumptions made when designing hardware, software, protocols and
mechanisms for sensor networks.
This workshop aims at bringing together researchers from academia and
industry to showcase their work and obtain feedback. We expect the
workshop to act as a forum for the sensor network research community
to discuss open issues, novel solutions and the future development of
wireless sensor networks in general. We encourage contributions
describing innovative work in the realm of wireless sensor networks.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Experiences from real-world sensor network deployment and applications
Innovative sensor network applications
Middleware support for sensor networks
Programming and debugging sensor networks
Security, availability and dependability issues in sensor networks
Experiences with new sensor hardware
Practical problems in implementing localization and time synchronization
Experiences with communication protocols
Practical medium access control protocols (MACs)
Topology control and routing protocols in existing sensor network
deployments
Fault-tolerance and troubleshooting sensor networks
Antenna design and experiences with signal propagation
Experiences regarding energy management and network lifetime
Configuration and installation support
Management of large-scale sensor networks
Interconnection between IP and sensor networks
Submitted papers will be reviewed by three independent experts in the
field. Proceedings of the workshop will be published together with
those of IEEE LCN, and will be available in digital format from the
IEEE Explore Digital Library.
