Scope
In its eleventh anniversary, the 2007 IEEE/ACM International Symposium
on Distributed Simulation and Real Time Applications (DS-RT 2007) will
take place in Chania, Crete Island, Greece, in conjunction with the 10th
IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Modeling, Analysis and Simulation of
Wireless and Mobile Systems (MSWiM 2007).
Symposium Objectives
DS-RT 2007 serves as a forum for simulationists from academia, industry
and research labs, for presenting recent research results in Distributed
Simulation and Real Time Applications. DS-RT 2007 targets the growing
overlap between large distributed simulations and real time applications,
such as collaborative virtual environments. The conference features
prominent invited speakers as well as papers by top researchers in the
field. DS-RT 2007 will include contributed technical papers, invited
papers, and panel discussions. The proceedings will be published by
IEEE-CS press.
Call for Papers
DS-RT is intended to provide an international forum for the discussion
and presentation of original ideas, recent results and achievements by
researchers, students, and systems developers on issues and challenges
related to distributed simulation and real time applications. Authors
are encouraged to submit both theoretical and practical results of
significance. Demonstration of new tools/applications is very desirable.
The scope of the symposium includes, but is not limited to:
o- Collaborative Virtual Environments, e.g. shared Virtual Reality,
augmented group presence, networked and pervasive games, tele-immersion,
and collaborative mixed reality
o- Multi-modal collaborative systems, e.g. collaborative future
workspaces, psychological issues of collaborative VR;
o- Interactive Simulation in Entertainment and Games;
o- Applications of Distributed Simulation, e.g., Real Time, large
distributed simulation systems;
o- Agent Based Distributed Simulation, e.g., multi-agent based simulation,
parallel and distibuted simulation of multi-agent systems;
o- Real-Time application modeling for QoS evaluation;
o- Algorithms and Studies relating to existing protocols, e.g., HLA,DIS,
event synchronization, network time protocols;
o- Data Distribution Management, Interest Management, Multi-resolution
modeling and Dead-Reckoning Mechanisms;
o- Current Critical Design Issues, e.g.: causality, simultaneous
events,zero look-ahead, compensation for slower than real time;
o- Methodology for Distributed and Parallel Simulation;

IEEE Golbecom 2007: Ad Hoc and Sensor Networking Symposium - CALL FOR PAPERS
26-30 November 2007 Washington, DC, USA
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Submission Date: March 15th, 2007
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Co-Chairs :
Prof. Azzedine Boukerche, Email: boukerch(a)site.uottawa.ca
Prof. Hussein Mouftah, Email: mouftah(a)site.uottawa.ca
Prof. Hsiao-Hwa Chen, Email: hshwchen(a)ieee.org
Scope
Multi-hop wireless Ad Hoc and sensor networks are self-organizing systems
formed by co-operating nodes within
communication range of each other that form temporary networks. Ad hoc
wireless networks allow anywhere,
anytime network connectivity with complete lack of control, ownership, and
regulatory influence.
The last few years have witnessed a wealth of research ideas on ad hoc and
sensor networks that
are moving rapidly into commercialization and standardization. Such
networks
can be randomly and rapidly
deployed and reconfigured and easily tailored to specific applications
including entertainment, civilian,
military, etc. Moreover, an ad hoc architecture is highly robust to node
failure and can provide a high-level
of fault tolerance due to nodal redundancy and its distributed nature.
Furthermore, energy efficiency can
be achieved through multi-hop routing communication. Bandwidth reuse can
also benefit from dividing the
single long range hop to multiple short hops with each hop having a shorter
range. Several challenges
face are standing in the way to achieving ubiquitous deployment of ad hoc
and sensor networks. These
include variable topology, device heterogeneity, limited power supply and
the lack of effective
energy-efficient design, lack of QoS and application support, etc.
This symposium aims at providing a forum for sharing ideas among
researchers
and practitioners working on
state-of-the-art solutions to the challenges above. We are seeking papers
that describe original
and unpublished contributions addressing various aspects of ad hoc and
sensor networks.
You are invited to submit original technical papers covering but not
limited
to the following topics.

CALL FOR PAPERS
IEEE Communications Magazine Feature Topic on
QoS Control in Next Generation Networks
http://www.comsoc.org/pubs/commag/cfpcommag0907a.htm
-------------------------------------------------------------------
In next generation networks, the service plane and the transport plane
will be decoupled and independent. This is clearly evident from
various emerging standards such as 3GPP IP Multimedia Subsystem, 3GPP2
Multi-Media Domain, ITU-T Next Generation Network, ETSI TISPAN, Packet
Cable Multimedia Architecture and Multi Service Forum. All of these
architectures have the following in common: (1) the service plane that
transfers service information (e.g., SIP, HTTP) and manages service
resources to enable advanced user services (e.g., IPTV, push-to-talk),
and (2) the transport plane that delivers end-to-end user packets and
manages transport resources. This architectural approach enables the
service plane and the transport plane to be developed independently,
and provides support for different access technologies based on fixed
(twisted copper cable, coaxial cable, fiber) and wireless media. A
critical component in these architectures is a logical entity that has
a northbound interface to the service plane and southbound interface
to the transport plane to provide the linkage between the two planes.
This entity has been called by different functional names including
policy server, policy decision function (PDF), policy and charging
rules function (PCRF), resource and admission control function (RACF)
and bandwidth manager. Although the entity also performs functions
such as charging control and security control, this Feature Topic will
only focus on QoS-related functions such as admission control, QoS
mapping from service plane (e.g., SDP) to transport plane (e.g., DSCP
marking, policing parameters, etc.), resource monitoring and resource
reservation, and gate control. While the standards development
organizations have been working on the protocol specifications, much
work is needed in the design and performance aspects of this entity in
order to provide end-to-end QoS services in a scalable manner. For
example, it is of interest to have concrete designs to handle
scenarios where end-to-end user packets traverse multiple domains,
each of which is managed by its own PDF. Papers that are tutorial in
nature are strongly recommended. Suggested areas include (but are not
limited to) the following subject categories:
* Overview and comparison of PDF functions in relevant standards
such as ITU-NGN, ETSI TISPAN, 3GPP/3GPP2 and Packet Cable
* Test beds, lab/field trials, and lessons learned from early
deployment
* Issues in overall QoS architectures with decoupled service and
transport planes
* QoS support at the service control function (IMS and non-IMS)
or at the policy enforcement function
* Multidomain admission control and end-to-end performance
* Transport plane performance monitoring such as TRC-FE in
ITU-NGN
* Policy rules and policy decisions
* Authorization, reservation and commitment of network resources
in pull and push models
* QoS mapping from service plane to transport plane
* Algorithms for optimizing transport resources, service
provisioning performance or other performance enhancement
Schedule:
Full manuscript due: March 8, 2007 (new deadline)
Acceptance notification: May 15, 2007
Final manuscript due: July 1, 2007
Publication date: September 2007
Submission:
Authors must follow the IEEE Communications Magazine's guidelines for
preparation of the manuscript. Complete guidelines for prospective

Call for Papers
HealthNet 2007
The 1st International Workshop on
Systems and Networking Support for
Healthcare and Assisted Living Environments
In conjunction with
MobiSys 2007
June 11, 2007
Puerto Rico, USA
http://healthnet07.cs.uiuc.edu
Sponsored by ACM SIGMOBILE
------------------------------------------------------------
WORKSHOP SCOPE:
================
As the world's population grows older, healthcare and
high-tech companies are joining forces. New technologies are
being used to provide improved support for elderly and home
bound people in their homes and in assisted living
environments. The overall goal of these initiatives is to
improve the quality of life by providing customized support
to people in need of assistance. The main challenge is to
provide this support according to the user's own specific
situation in a non-intrusive and respectful way. These new
technologies enable the automation of the observation and
support for elderly and home bound people through the use of
sensors, actuators, distributed intelligence, databases,
ubiquitous connectivity and friendly adaptive interfaces,
all connected mainly via a variety of wireless networking
technologies. The ultimate goal is a system that can adapt
to the users needs, helping them get through their daily
routine in a way that is effective in providing support
where needed without making them feel humiliated by
excessive attention. To provide such support, it will be
necessary to combine efforts from many areas of computer
science, including networking, distributed systems,
security, data management, HCI, AI and middleware.
Given the inherent use of mobile and wireless communication
and the need for comprehensive distributed systems as well
as the multi-disciplinary nature of solutions for healthcare
and assisted living environments, the goal of HealthNet is
to provide a forum for the cross-area interactions that will
be necessary for successful systems and applications. The
specific focus of HealthNet will be on understanding what it
takes to provide effective systems and communication support
for healthcare and assisted living environments. Although
the systems and networking community is very good at
providing effective solutions to satisfying application
requirements, they require input from experts in other
disciples, including HCI, middleware, security, privacy and
social networking, to provide a more accurate understanding
of the specific requirements for these
environments. Therefore, HealthNet aims to attract
researchers working on cross-disciplinary projects, with a
focus on understanding and supporting the requirements of
these complex applications.
Authors are invited to submit papers presenting new research
related to the support of healthcare and assisted living
environments. All submissions must describe original
research, not published or currently under review for
another workshop, conference, or journal.
Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Enabling technologies
* Service and device discovery
* Security and privacy
* Reliability and fault tolerance
* User and device localization
* Resource management architecture
* User data management
* Middleware for heterogeneous networks
* Mobility and connectivity management
* Cross-layer system architecture design
* Human-centered Computing
* Task and behavior analysis
* Impact of user interface design on system design and
management
* Test-beds and simulations environments

_____________________________________________________________________
A wide spectrum of applications and services is currently being
developed and designed to be built on top of various heterogeneous
and significantly challenging network architectures such as wireless
mesh, mobile ad hoc and wireless sensor/actor networks. These
heterogeneous wireless communication architectures are mainly
characterized by heterogeneous and resource-constrained nodes,
restricted communication channels,highly dynamic environments,lack of
any fixed infrastructure, and large scale network deployments that
strongly vary in their density.These features and challenges,in turn,
mandate intelligent, adaptive, autonomic,coordinated,self-organizing,
and efficient processing and communication approaches to handle the
complexity of these ambitious wireless systems.
The turn to nature has brought us many unforeseen great concepts.
Natural biological systems intrinsically possess and exploit similar
features by providing elegant and extremely efficient solutions for
the challenges and tasks faced in their natural operation. It is of
extreme importance to bridge the communication technologies with
biological sciences and capture the analogy between these two
distinct disciplines. To this end, solution strategies inspired by
the biological systems have been recently proposed to address the
challenges of many computing and communication systems.
This special issue is dedicated to capture the state-of-the-art and
the recent advances in the area of biologically-inspired computing
and communication in heterogeneous wireless architectures such as
wireless mesh networks, mobile ad hoc networks, and wireless sensor
and actor networks. Papers describing mathematical models,algorithms,
protocols, tools, evaluation methods, and experimental studies of
computing and communication architectures that are inspired by and
derived from biological systems are solicited for this special issue.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
* Bio-inspired mathematical models, methods and tools
* Biological and bio-inspired computing, data processing algorithms
* Joint bio-inspired data processing and communication
* Embryonics-based fault-tolerant computing and communication
* Bio-inspired network and communication algorithms and protocols
* Novel applications and services inspired by biological systems
* Experimental studies of bio-inspired computing and communications
* Bio-inspired topology control and network reconfiguration methods
* Bio-inspired localization, synchronization, mobility approaches
* Evolution and self-healing of network architectures and protocols
* Immune and self-healing network defense and information security
* Bio-inspired nano-scale and molecular computing and communication
* Bio-inspired distributed control and sensing of networked wearable
and implantable medical devices

CALL FOR PAPERS
============================================================
Second International Workshop on Personalized Networks
<http://pernets.org/>http://pernets.org/
To be held in conjunction with:
The 4th Annual International Conference on Mobile and
Ubiquitous Systems: Networks and Services (MOBIQUITOUS 2007)
August 6-10, 2007 - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
============================================================
Important Dates
Paper Submission Deadline: April 1, 2007
Notification of Acceptance: May 21, 2007
Camera-Ready Submissions: June 10, 2007
(Accepted papers will be published in the
conference proceedings and the IEEE Digital Library)
=============================================================
Purpose of this workshop
The ubiquitous nature of wireless networks has spawned many interesting
applications that were unimagined hitherto. It has also brought many
challenges for the communication and networking community to address. On
one hand we see present day mobile devices are capable of providing many
services that required several devices before. For example, most cell
phones nowadays provide high speed data access, still and video cameras,
PDA functionality, etc. These advances in device sophistication and
service offerings, including wireless hotspots, have made a difference
in the way we communicate. With increased user mobility and user's
desire to always be connected, we have seen a growing interest in
Personal Area Networks (PANs) and Body Area Networks (BANs). These
networks can be tuned and applied meaningfully for individual users and
their requirements. On the other hand the Internet has changed our way
of interacting dramatically. These two major communication areas are
having an in-depth influence on the way we communicate; it is worth
considering them 'together' as the future communication vehicle.
(Please visit
<http://pernets.org/>http://pernets.org/ for more information and submission
instructions)
Scope of the submission
We seek original contributions which are aimed at finding solutions to
the problems that are outlined above towards realization of a
Personalized Network. We have identified the following major topics
under which we try to categorize the submissions. However, we will
consider any other original, interesting, and imaginative ideas and
thoughts towards meeting this goal of a Personalized Network.
* The architectural framework of personalized networks
* Context awareness and support
* Resource, service and context discovery
* Self-organization and adaptation
* Addressing and routing
* Interworking between PANs, ad hoc networks, etc, and
infrastructure-based heterogeneous networks
* Mobility of personalized networks
* Security, privacy and accounting
* Zero configuration methods and other enablers for ease-of-use
* Dependability
* Context-aware and application-driven communication substrates
* Interactions between persons through their
networks, federations of such networks
* Handling of QoS across heterogeneous and dynamically changing link
layers
* New QoS concepts in personalized networks
* Mapping of functional requirements to physical devices and resources
* Modeling and simulation of personalized networks
* P2P paradigm in personalized networks
* Innovative applications or prototypes and demonstrations of such
person centric applications are equally valued
Why should you participate in this workshop?
Personalized Networks is a concrete vision of the future networks, yet
very current, in the field of communications. It attracts researchers
from both wired and wireless domains. This workshop is an ideal platform
to share a vision of where we are heading, interact, and strongly
advocate an exciting new avenue for researchers and practitioners in the
field of communication. Further, the final program will consist of
carefully selected - with at least three peer reviews - and high quality
submissions with a large emphasis on new ideas rather than incremental
contributions to the field. Submissions of shorter versions of full
papers that can be submitted to other conferences/journal in the near
future are discouraged.

CALL FOR PAPERS
First International Workshop on
Mobile Opportunistic Networking
MobiOpp 2007
sponsored by ACM/SIGMOBILE
in conjunction with ACM MobiSys 2007
http://cnd.iit.cnr.it/mobiopp07
jointly organized by
IIT-CNR, Italy
UCLA, USA
June 11, 2007
Puerto Rico, USA
Opportunistic Networks are one of the most exciting evolutions of the legacy
Mobile Ad hoc Networking (MANET) paradigm, in which the assumption of
complete paths between data senders and receivers is released. Opportunistic
Networks enable users' communication in disconnected environments, in which
island of connected devices appear, disappear, and reconfigure dynamically.
The network is thus extremely dynamic, and is formed by the evolving
contacts among mobile devices, and among connected clouds of devices. In
this view, legacy-Internet connectivity is just a particular connectivity
opportunity. Opportunistic Networks thus encompass the features and methods
of delay or disruption tolerant networks (DTN). They are very suitable to
support the pervasive networking scenario, in which a huge number of devices
carried by users and embedded in the environment communicate wirelessly
without requiring any pre-existing infrastructure. By enabling end-to-end
communication without requiring complete paths, Opportunistic Networks are
much closer to real pervasive networking scenarios, with respect to the
legacy MANET paradigm.
Original contributions are solicited, related to systems and protocols
design, development and analysis, in all areas related to Opportunistic
Networking. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Architectures for opportunistic networks
* (Killer) applications for opportunistic networks
* Middleware services in opportunistic networks
