Scope
In its tenth anniversary year, the 2006 IEEE/ACM International Symposium
on Distributed Simulation and Real Time Applications (DS-RT 2006) will
take place in Torremolinos, Malaga, Spain, in conjunction with the the 9th
ACM Int'l Symposium International Symposium on Modeling,
Analysis, Simulation of Wireless and Mobile Systems.
Symposium Objectives
DS-RT 2006 serves as a forum for simulationists from academia, industry
and research labs, for presenting recent research results in Distributed
Simulation and Real Time Applications. DS-RT 2006 targets the growing
overlap between large distributed simulations and real time
applications,
such as collaborative virtual environments. The conference features
prominent invited speakers as well as papers by top researchers in the
field. DS-RT 2006 will include contributed technical papers, invited
papers, and panel discussions. The proceedings will be published by
IEEE-CS press.
Call for Papers
DS-RT is intended to provide an international forum for the discussion
and presentation of original ideas, recent results and achievements by
researchers, students, and systems developers on issues and challenges
related to distributed simulation and real time applications. Authors
are encouraged to submit both theoretical and practical results of
significance. Demonstration of new tools/applications is very desirable.
The scope of the symposium includes, but is not limited to:
o- Collaborative Virtual Environments, e.g. interactive Virtual Reality,
human communication through immersive environments, shared object
manipulation;
o- Multi-modal collaborative systems, e.g. collaborative future
workspaces, psychological issues of collaborative VR;
o- Interactive Simulation in Entertainment and Games;
o- Applications of Distributed Simulation, e.g., Real Time, large
distributed simulation systems;
o- Agent Based Distributed Simulation, e.g., multi-agent based simulation,
parallel and distibuted simulation of multi-agent systems;
o- Real-Time application modeling for QoS evaluation;
o- Algorithms and Studies relating to existing protocols, e.g., HLA,DIS,
event synchronization, network time protocols;
o- Data Distribution Management, Interest Management, Multi-resolution
modeling and Dead-Reckoning Mechanisms;
o- Current Critical Design Issues, e.g.: causality, simultaneous
events,zero look-ahead, compensation for slower than real time;
o- Methodology for Distributed and Parallel Simulation;
o- Approaches to interoperation of COTS simulation modeling packages;

Call for Papers
Special Issue of Journal of Autonomic and Trusted Computing on
Autonomic and Trusted Computing Systems and Applications
(URL: http://cs.okstate.edu/~xiaolin/joatc/CFP06.htm)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deadline: June 1st, 2006
As computer systems become increasingly large, complex and pervasive,
their self-manageability and trustworthiness play critical roles in
supporting next-generation science, engineering, and business
applications. They provide computing services to large pools of users
and applications, and thus are exposed to a number of dangers, such as,
accidental/deliberate faults, virus infections, malicious attacks,
illegal intrusions, and natural disasters. Identifying and rectifying
problems in such complex systems which consist of several heterogeneous
software/hardware/network components is non-trivial. As a result, too
often computer systems fail, become compromised, or perform poorly.
Therefore, it remains a challenge to design, analyze, evaluate, and
improve the performance of trustworthy systems. Trusted computing
targets computing and communication systems as well as services that are
predictable, traceable, controllable, assessable, sustainable,
dependable, and privacy protect-able. The scale and complexity of
information systems evolve towards overwhelming the capability of system
administrators, programmers, and designers. This calls for the autonomic
computing paradigm, which meets the requirement of self-management by
providing self-optimization, self-healing, self-configuration, and
self-protection. As a promising means to implement trusted and
self-managing systems, autonomic computing technology needs to be
further explored. On the other hand, any autonomic system must be
trustworthy to avoid the risk of losing control and retain confidence
that the system will not fail. Trusted and autonomic computing and
communications need synergistic research efforts covering many
disciplines, ranging from computer science and engineering, the natural
sciences, biological sciences, to social sciences. It requires
scientific and technological advances in a wide variety of fields, as
well as new software, system architectures, and communication systems
that support the effective and coherent integration of the constituent
technologies.

Ad hoc networking technologies have big potentialities for
innovative applications of great impact on our everyday life.
To exploit these potentialities, simulation modeling and
theoretical analyses have to be complemented by real experiences
(e.g., measurements on real prototypes) which provide both a
direct evaluation of ad hoc networks and, at the same time,
precious information to realistically model these systems.
The need for more experimental activities stimulated a new
community of researchers combining theoretical research on
ad hoc networking with experiences/measurements obtained by
implementing ad hoc network prototypes. The aim of REALMAN is to
bring together this community. Following the success of the first
edition, this workshop constitutes a unique forum for presenting
and discussing measurement studies and experiences based on real
ad hoc network test-beds and prototypes.

CALL FOR PAPERS
WNS2
Workshop on ns-2: the IP network simulator
Pisa, Italy -- October 10, 2006
http://www.wns2.org/
SCOPE
-----
In recent years, the ns-2 simulator has become one of the de facto
standards (if
not the standard) for the simulation of packet-switched networks, as
attested by
the number of research papers and IETF documents based on it, as well
as by the
wide scope of the networking technologies it handles. It is widely
used in both
academia and industry as a means of designing, testing and evaluating
new and
existing protocols and architectures, and it is also a very useful
tool for
educational purposes.
The Workshop on ns-2 (WNS2) is a one-day event held in conjunction with
VALUETOOLS, the First International Conference on Performance Evaluation
Methodologies and Tools (http://www.valuetools.org/).
The main goals of the WNS2 workshop are: to bring together networking
researchers
from both academia and industry, to discuss recent advances, to
identify future
directions in network simulation, and to foster interdisciplinary
collaborative
research in this area.
The workshop devotes special interest to the future evolution of
ns-2, and its
extension in novel research areas and networking technologies and
scenarios.
TOPICS OF INTEREST
------------------
This workshop is mainly focused on the simulator in itself. We are
especially
looking for original contributions that go beyond the use of ns-2 "as
is", and
try to make it evolve. The following topics are of particular interest:
- Development of new simulation models and features, especially
in, but
not restricted to, the areas of:
* Mobile networks, 3G and 4G networks, WLANs, WPANs, WiMAX...
* Delay-tolerant networking.
* Congestion-control and transport-layer issues in long-fat
networks.
* Network mobility (NEMO).
* Sensor networks.
* Peer-to-peer systems.
* Grid computing.
- Large-scale network simulation and model-based simulation
approaches.
- Post-processing tools and GUIs for statistical analysis and
visualization
of simulation results.
Other topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Validation of ns-2 behavior with experimentation and real data.
- Comparative studies of ns-2 and other network simulation
tools, both
commercial and freely-available.
- Parallel and distributed versions of ns-2.
- Use of ns-2 in teaching networking concepts and techniques.

=====================================================================
CALL FOR PAPERS
Sigcomm 2006 - Workshop on Challenged Networks (CHANTS-06)
Pisa, Italy - September 11-15, 2006
=====================================================================
Technical Area:
Challenged networks include those found in mobile and in-motion
networking, dynamic wireless networks, heterogeneous and mobile
sensor networks, interplanetary networking, and networks providing
rural connectivity. Such networks are not well served by standard
TCP/IP solutions, due to the prevalence of disconnection, disruption,
intermittency, large delays, or other factors.
Today, the most successful network architecture is that of the
Internet. It has scaled well beyond the original plan of its
designers, and the Internet Protocol has been carried on a great
number of underlying protocols, including itself. However, the
Internet's protocol architecture suffers some problems when
implemented on classes of networks for which it was not originally
designed. For example, when disconnection and reconnection is common,
or link performance is highly variable or extreme, one or more of the
traditional Internet protocols do not work well. In this workshop, we
wish to explore physical networks that operate significantly
differently from wired, connected networks and the protocol
architectures and algorithms used to deal with such situations.
Techniques for making applications tolerant to disruptions and/or
high delays are also in scope. More specifically, we solicit papers
in the following areas:
- Characterization of performance-challenged networks,
e.g. network measurements.
- Networking systems operating over unusual/challenged networks.
- Protocol design and evaluation of operations over challenged
networks.
- Robust network application design and implementation techniques.
- Delay tolerant and disruption tolerant networks (DTN).
- Situated and autonomic communications for challenged networks.
- Handling user concerns in challenged networks such as usability,
privacy, security and incentives to cooperate.
Submissions may include presentations of specific systems or
performance measurements, as well as more general, philosophical
position papers. Papers that bring out interesting and novel ideas at
an early stage in their development are favored over highly polished,
journal-style results. Selected papers will be forward-looking, with
impact and implications for ongoing or future research. We aim to
accept around 15 papers, and to have a highly interactive workshop
focusing on broader issues and community development.
Paper Format and Submission:
Submitted papers must be no more than 8 pages long, double
column, with no characters smaller than 10 point fonts. Papers will
be reviewed single blind, which means be sure to include author
information on the first page after the title and before the
abstract. Papers that do not adhere to these requirements exactly (or
attempt to cheat on spacing or fonts) will not be accepted for
submission.
Paper submission will be via EDAS. The exact URL will be posted
by April 1, 2006.
Important Dates:
Submission Deadline: 21 April 2006
Notification of Acceptance: 2 June 2006
Camera Ready Deadline: 16 June 2006

[Apologies if you receive this more than once]
==============================================
Preliminary Call for Papers
WMASH 2006
The Fourth ACM International Workshop on
Wireless Mobile Applications and Services on WLAN Hotspots
Los Angeles, California, USA
September 23-29, 2006
http://wmash06.dit.unitn.it
==============================================
ACM WMASH aims to address and discuss the technical and business
challenges, ideas, views, and research results in providing public
wireless Internet services and applications for mobile users in small,
highly-populated, public spaces (wireless LANs and "hotspots").
Since the beginning of the workshop in 2003 several research and
business challenges related to public WLAN were put forward. These
challenges still need to be explored and market needs to converge while
new developments continue. The challenges are: What is the overall
network architecture and service model? How to roam through multiple
wireless access providers with a unique service contract? How to
decouple the wireless infrastructure providers from the Internet service
(and content) providers? How to locate service facilities in the
wireless access domain and how to match the available facilities with
the user needs? How to exploit location and context information? How to
provide differentiated service levels to different customers? How to
achieve seamless interoperation between WLAN-based hotspots and cellular
and other emerging wireless data networks? The last challenge,
concerning seamless interoperation, is catching the most attention these
days leading to activities in IEEE 802 and in 3GPP to move quickly
towards finding standardized solutions.
This workshop will aim at discussing these and several other challenges
and issues behind the evolution of WLANs from cable replacement to
public access. Leaders and thinkers of the field from academia and
industry will assemble to share their ideas and views. Authors are
invited to submit original technical papers or position papers,
describing current research, experimental work and visions of the
future. We are specifically interested in work dealing with network
layer and above (layers 3-7). Within the context of interest to this
workshop, a list of topics includes, but is not limited to:
. Applications and services
. New service and business models
. Public WLAN and hotspot architectures
. Community-owned WLAN infrastructures
