The 17th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Ad-Hoc and Smart Systems
(MASS 2020)
https://www.iitr.ac.in/mass2020/
<https://www.iitr.ac.in/mass2020/index.html>
Delhi NCR, India. December 10-13, 2020 (Postponed Due to COVID-19)
*IMPORTANT NOTE:* The IEEE MASS 2020 conference is now moved to December
10-13, 2020 due to COVID-19. The main objective of moving is to increase
the chance of having an onsite conference. The organizers are exploring
contingency plans, such as running it virtually, depending on the situation
in the next few months. However, the conference will be held one way or
another, and the organizers are committed to present a high-quality
technical program in terms of top-notch keynote speakers, competitively
accepted peer-reviewed papers (proceedings published by the IEEE), an
exciting panel, and other associated events like cutting-edge workshops,
poster and demo sessions. If the conference will be held in person,
sufficient measures will be taken to ensure the safety and health of our
research community.
CONFERENCE SCOPE & TRACKS
IEEE MASS 2020 is a premier annual forum for sharing original, novel ideas
in mobile ad-hoc networks and smart systems, defined broadly. As wireless
ad-hoc networks continue to evolve and specialize into a number of
application scenarios and environments, and sensor-based systems and
technologies increasingly permeate our everyday life and become the inner
fabric of the Internet of Things and Cyber Physical Systems, the unfolding
of smart environments such as smart cities, smart farming, smart
healthcare, and smart manufacturing, to name a few, demand integrated
solutions that can make intelligent use of both cloud and edge systems,
while applying machine learning and artificial intelligence tools to handle
their growing complexity and to leverage the vast amount of available
data. Sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, the 17th edition of the IEEE
International Conference on Mobile Ad-Hoc and Smart Systems (MASS) will be
held in Delhi NCR, India during October 1-4, 2020, and it aims at bringing
together researchers, developers, and practitioners to address recent
advances in mobile ad-hoc and smart systems, covering algorithms, theory,
protocols, systems & applications, experimental evaluations and testbeds,
security/privacy, as well as AI/ML-based smart design.

Feature Topic, Vol.18, No.7, 2021
Collaborative Intelligence for Vehicular Internet of Things
http://www.cic-chinacommunications.cn/EN/column/item153.shtml
Future vehicular Internet-of-Things (IoT) systems feature a large number of
devices and multi-access environments where different types of
communication, computing, and storage resources must be efficiently
utilized. At the same time, novel services, such as cooperative autonomous
driving and intelligent transport systems (ITS), that demand unprecedented
high accuracy, ultra-low latency, and large bandwidth, are emerging. These
services also have an extreme variance in user requirements and resource
demands with respect to time, location, and context. Hence, current
research is no longer confined to improving reliable communication and
system operation in the presence of highly mobile vehicles, which has been
the main focus in the past. It is therefore important to empower future
vehicular IoT systems with advanced features, such as real-time reactive
and proactive cooperation and coordination among different agents (or
decision makers), including vehicles, roadside units, base stations,
pedestrians, and other entities.
Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) based approaches have been
attracting great interest in empowering computer systems. Some
collaborative learning approaches, such as federated learning and
multi-agent systems, have been used to reduce network traffic and improve
learning efficiency of some smartphone applications. In vehicular IoT
systems, collaborative intelligence can be achieved via an efficient
collaboration among heterogeneous entities, including vehicles, edges, and
cloud. This special issue will focus on the technical challenges and the
synergistic effect of collaboration among heterogeneous entities and AI in
enabling intelligent perception of environment, intelligent networking, and
intelligent processing of big data in vehicular IoT systems. We invite
researchers to contribute their original research articles that will
facilitate the development of vehicular IoT based on collaborative
intelligence.

Dear Colleagues,
You are cordially invited to submit papers to the following Special Issue.
Elsevier Ad Hoc Networks Special Issue on Trends and Challenges in Energy-Efficient UAV Networks
Submission date: 30 September 2020
CFP link: https://www.journals.elsevier.com/ad-hoc-networks/call-for-papers/trends-an…
Call for Papers:
Recent developments in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs, a.k.a. drones), sensor and communication technology, coupled with automation and deployment flexibility of UAVs have revolutionized various industries, including agriculture, mobile communications, entertainment and media. The commercial applications of drones providing business solutions is growing rapidly, with an estimated global market value of $127 bn according to a study by PwC. Despite the advantages provided by UAVs in various sectors, they face the challenge of limited operating duration due to the reliance on their on-board battery. This creates interruptions in their missions as battery replacement or recharging is required frequently. Therefore, developments of innovative, energy-efficient methods that will help UAVs to achieve more with their limited-capacity battery or even extend the mission duration, especially for the small-sized UAVs, are essential. Such innovations will enhance the deployment feasibility of UAVs or drone-delivered commercial services. The methods and mechanisms may focus on energy-efficient functioning of UAVs, consider ways of topping up the battery capacity, or even in-situ recharging.
This Special Issue aims to publish the latest contributions in the development of methods and mechanisms for energy-efficient UAV Networks. Researchers, developers, and industry practitioners working in this area are invited to present their views on the current trends, challenges, and state of the art solutions addressing various issues in energy-efficient UAV Networks. Due to the complex and dynamic environment that the UAVs operate in, the use of intelligent algorithms, e.g., machine learning/deep learning techniques in optimizing proposed solutions are of high relevance to the special issue. *CFP: GLOBECOM 2020 WORKSHOP (WS-03)*
Title:
*Intelligent Fog and Edge Infrastructures for Future Wireless Systems*
Workshop Organizer(s): Prof. Maria Yuang, National Chiao Tung University,
Taiwan; Dr. Alain Mourad, Interdigital, UK; Dr. Antonio de la Oliva,
University Carlos III of Madrid, Spain; Dr. Bengt Ahlgren, RISE Research
Institutes of Sweden, Sweden
Email Address of Organizer(s): mariayuang(a)gmail.com,
Alain.Mourad(a)InterDigital.com, aoliva(a)it.uc3m.es, bengt.ahlgren(a)ri.se
*Scope*
To support future wireless systems, or Beyond 5G networks, fog and edge have
been emerging as key infrastructures within close proximity to the end
users, where network intelligence and innovated service could be
efficiently implemented. Leveraged with Artificial Intelligence (AI)
techniques, fog and edge computing infrastructures have further been proved
distinctively effective to deliver optimized and customized services that
demand ultra-low latency and ultra-high bandwidth performance. Moving
computing powers to the edge and fog has also helped in rediscovering a
wealth of dormant assets in the local access networks. These dormant assets
are essentially contextual information collected directly from the users,
smart devices, and nodes. Therefore, fog and edge computing infrastructure
is playing an ever increasingly crucial role of bringing the IoT, big data
and distributed intelligence together for future wireless systems.
Nevertheless, designing intelligent Fog and Edge infrastructures posts some
real challenges. They include how AI can be applied for network slicing,
how to apply Machine Learning (ML) to streaming data, how to apply
reinforcement learning to resource allocation and load balancing, and even
how to build cohesive infrastructure to develop AI software, to name but a
few. Meanwhile, some practical issues, such as how to run AI training
algorithms in an power efficient manner, and how to create and handle data
sets relevant enough to acquire knowledge, etc., should also be taken into
consideration. These challenges are currently being addressed in several
research projects (e.g., H2020 GROWTH, 5G-DIVE) and standardization bodies.
*Topics of Interest*
This workshop expects to become a meeting point between industry and
academia to jointly provide valuable insights into the new definition of
intelligent fog and edge for future wireless systems. This workshop seeks
to attract high-quality contributions covering both theory and practice
over all aforementioned and other related aspects of AI-based fog and
edge infrastructure
design and development. Some representative topics of interest include, but
are not limited to:
· Infrastructure Design for AI/ML-enabled Fog/Edge
· Edge data center network design for AI/ML-enabled Fog/Edge
· Energy efficient computing for AI/ML-enabled Fog/Edge
· Energy efficient architecture for AI/ML-enabled Fog/Edge

Overview
In the recent years, we are witnessing a revolution in mobile communication
and computation technologies. The Internet of Things (IoT) evolution has
given birth to several new groundbreaking applications, such as Internet of
Vehicles (IoV), smart cities, and cyber physical systems (CPS). The
proliferation of IoV-based applications magnifies the importance and
irreplaceability of IoV. Considering the dynamic nature of entities in the
IoV, there are a series of challenges including the security, privacy,
decentralization, trust management and so on. For efficient decision
making, in IoVs, we use Vehicle to Vehicle/Others (V2V/V2X) communication
to compliment on-board sensors' inputs and provide better services. A key
concern when relying on sensor-data is vulnerability of data. Malicious
actors tend to inject false data or alter the communication among normal
vehicles.
Papers may present advances in the theory, design, implementation,
analysis, verification, or empirical evaluation and measurement of the
area. Papers that shed new light on past or informally known results by
means of sound formal theory or thorough empirical analysis will also be
welcomed.
Suggested contribution topics include (but are not limited to) empirical
and theoretical studies of:
- Access control in IoV
- 5G enabled communication in IoV
- Secure end-to-end communication protocols in IoVs
- Machine Learning and Deep learning techniques for vehicular communication
security
- Advanced secure architectures for IoVs
- Accountability in IoV
- Big data management, data processing and analytics in IoV
- Blockchain enabled-security solutions for IoV
- Designing green-oriented protocols, techniques and services for IoV
- Efficient secure data dissemination mechanisms for IoV
- Energy-aware secure routing solutions for IoV
- Energy-efficient and secure management/control of IoV resources
- Intrusion detection technologies for IoV
- Leveraging cloud/fog/edge computing in IoV
- New Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and services based on IoV
- Optimization techniques for sustainable security solutions
- Privacy-preserving data aggregation for IoV
- Secure and privacy preserving V2V and V2X communications
- Security in cloud based IoV
- Sustainable security solutions for electric/hybrid vehicles
- Trust and reputation in IoV

IEEE Globecom 2020 Workshop on Information Freshness, Communications,
Control, and Computing for Industrial IoT
Date: Monday, 7 December 2020
Call for Workshop Papers
Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) integrates advanced digital
computing, communications, and control technology. Within the Industry
4.0 framework, IIoT aims to tackle a set of new technological challenges
in industrial control, automation, and intelligence. Since most of the
IIoT applications, such as intelligent transportation, telesurgery,
industry automation, power systems automation, and power electronics
control, are mission-critical and demand real-time communications and
computation capabilities for successful closed-loop operation, IIoT
requires the joint design and optimization of communications, control,
and computing (3C). Moreover, the freshness and value of information is
significant in real-time IIoT applications.
Age of Information (AoI) has emerged as a concept that has recently
gained increasing attention as a performance metric for quantifying
information freshness at the destination. It is important to note that
improving first-order metrics (e.g., for providing high throughput and
low delay) that render enhanced performance in traditional communication
networks, are inadequate when it comes to improving the information
freshness. Therefore, there is an urgent need to re-examine existing
metrics and develop new ones for emerging time-critical applications.
The workshop is expected to bring together academic and industrial
researchers to identify and discuss the major technical challenges and
recent breakthroughs related to AoI, communications, control, and
computing in IIoT. Topics of interest include:
* AoI analysis and optimization
* Multiuser scheduling for optimizing information freshness
* Cooperative status update for improved information freshness
* The application of emerging technologies (e.g., cloud and edge
computing, machine learning) for improving AoI performance
* AoI approaches for industrial control applications
* Fundamental tradeoffs between communications, control and
computing in IIoT
* Resource allocation for next generation wireless sensing and
control applications in IIoT
* MAC layer and network layer design for supporting multi-loop
control applications
* Edge computing for low-latency control
* Cyber-physical security in IIoT
* Prototypes and testbeds for validating AoI and
communications-control-computing codesign protocols.
