** COVID-19 Update
------------------------------------------------------------
The organizers of IEEE MASS 2020 are fully aware of the potential impact
the COVID-19 pandemic might have on the conference. They are exploring
contingency plans, such as postponing the conference dates or running it
virtually, depending on the situation in the next few months. However,
the conference will be held one way or another, and the organizers are
committed to present a high-quality technical program in terms of
top-notch keynote speakers, competitively accepted peer-reviewed papers
(proceedings published by the IEEE), an exciting panel, and other
associated events like cutting-edge workshops, poster and demo sessions.
If the conference will be held in person, sufficient measures will be
taken to ensure the safety and health of our research community.
CONFERENCE SCOPE & TRACKS
IEEE MASS 2020 is a premier annual forum for sharing original, novel
ideas in mobile ad-hoc networks and smart systems, defined broadly. As
wireless ad-hoc networks continue to evolve and specialize into a number
of application scenarios and environments, and sensor-based systems and
technologies increasingly permeate our everyday life and become the
inner fabric of the Internet of Things and Cyber Physical Systems, the
unfolding of smart environments such as smart cities, smart farming,
smart healthcare, and smart manufacturing, to name a few, demand
integrated solutions that can make intelligent use of both cloud and
edge systems, while applying machine learning and artificial
intelligence tools to handle their growing complexity and to leverage
the vast amount of available data. Sponsored by the IEEE Computer
Society, the 17th edition of the IEEE International Conference on Mobile
Ad-Hoc and Smart Systems (MASS) will be held in Delhi NCR, India during
October 1-4, 2020, and it aims at
bringing together researchers, developers, and practitioners to address
recent advances in mobile ad-hoc and smart systems, covering algorithms,
theory, protocols, systems & applications, experimental evaluations and
testbeds, security/privacy, as well as AI/ML-based smart design.

Special issue on EDGE COMPUTING IN PERVASIVE SYSTEMS
Pervasive and Mobile Computing (Elsevier) - IF 2.769
https://www.journals.elsevier.com/pervasive-and-mobile-computing/call-for-p…
SCOPE AND TOPICS
Edge computing is the utilization of computation / storage /
connectivity resources available at the "edge" of the Internet:
mobile user terminals (e.g., smart phones, tablets), smart objects
(e.g., IoT sensors and actuators), access network devices (e.g.,
WiFi routers, cellular base stations). Calling back from remote
datacenter cloud functions and deploying them on edge devices create
a new world of opportunities for pervasive and mobile computing
applications and services, which may benefit from very low latency,
increased bandwidth, and immediate availability of user context
(e.g., geographical position, radio network information, local
network topology). This new network calls for novel control and
data forwarding mechanisms to account for its intrinsic characteristics
such as volatility, its distributed nature, and the decoupling of
functions among heterogeneous hardware infrastructures.
This special issue invites technical papers that focus on both
theoretical and applied research contributions and that present
original ideas, analytical and simulation results, and real-world
experiences in the context of smart edge computing.
This special issue will focus on (but will not be limited to) the
following topics:
- Integration of edge computing in 5G (and beyond) technologies
- Analytics, streaming, and real-time processing at the edge
- Data storage, distribution, and management in edge systems
- Edge computing for IoT and Industrial IoT applications
- Distributed AI / ML solutions for edge systems
- Security, privacy, and trustworthiness at the edge
- Edge for the realization of cyber-physical pervasive systems
- Distributed consensus and ledger technologies for edge computing
- Communication protocols and technologies for edge networking
- Programming and computation abstractions for edge computing
- Modeling and performance evaluation of pervasive edge computing
- Integration of edge computing in fog / (multi-)cloud scenarios
- Lightweight edge virtualization to enable pervasive applications
- New network architectures for distributed cellular deployments
TIMELINE

2nd Workshop on Emerging Technologies and Trends
in Engineering Low-Power Networks
(NewNets - co-located with WoWMoM)
August 31 - September 3, 2020 - Cork,
Ireland
https://newnets2020.github.io/
AIMS AND SCOPE
A founding pillar of the IoT concept is the availability of low-cost
low-power devices with wireless technologies providing sensing,
communication, and actuation. In the past decade, the research community
have produced proven solutions to build low-power mesh networks.
Traditionally, the focus has been on short-range radio communication (e.g.,
ZigBee, Bluetooth, and ZWave.). An appealing alternative that have gained
momentum in the IoT landscape, is to equip the nodes with long-range low
power radio modules. As a result, long-range radio communication
technologies (e.g., SigFox, LoRa, NB-IoT, and 802.15.4g) are considered as
candidate technologies for many low-power wide area network (LPWAN)
applications, especially those that require extended coverage such as
citywide sensing, environmental monitoring, or remote infrastructure
monitoring.
The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners
working in the field of IoT from both academia and industry, to discuss and
explore short- and long-range solutions, the tradeoffs between these two
paradigms, as well as how they can be used in synergy. In order to push the
state of the art, several points need to be addressed: new features for the
long-range technologies (i.e., over-the-air updates, roaming), radio
resource management, regulations and policies on spectrum usage and
sharing, business case analysis that are more well suited for certain
vertical markets.
The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

***Aim and Scope***
It is evident that IoT is entering multiple fields of everyday life. The
proliferation of IoT devices as well as the numerous use cases reveal
the very promising potentials of IoT in revolutionizing several aspects
of common activities as well as business processes. The vision of
interconnecting billions of devices in a holistic network, where
machines communicate along with traditional human communications is now
being realized, towards the formation of the Internet of Everything (as
called by Cisco). The workshop focuses on Industrial Internet of Things
systems and applications, which represent the highest value segment of
the IoT market. The heavy research endeavors of last years have provided
efficient solutions and enhanced technologies that enable the creation
of such a network, overcoming several challenges stemming from the
special attributes of device-to-device communications, embedded devices,
and big data management. The new challenge is to identify efficient ways
of integrating IoT technologies in contemporary applications exploiting
the potentials of real-time monitoring, interactive control,
self-management, and data analytics towards “smart” behavior and
enhanced performance. The main scope of the “IoT Applications and
Industry 4.0” (IoTI4) workshop is to identify and promote new techniques
for the realization of promising IoT applications in various areas,
including Industry 4.0 scenarios.
***Topics of Interest (not limited to)***
